Supreme Igbo Security Council Endorses President Jonathan For 2015 Elections

A group,  Supreme Igbo Security Council (ISIC) under the umbrella of Ohanaeze -Ndigbo has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for re-election come 2015. SISC endorsed the President at a press conference in Abuja.

The SISC President, Bobby Ukadike said President Jonathan just like every Nigerian who has been elected has the right to also seek re-election and should therefore be allowed a second term in office. He revealed that former Presidents from the North and West also embarked on two terms and should realise that it was not their turn in 2015 to seek for the post of President. In his words:

“We in Supreme Igbo Security Council, SISC, want to tell Nigerians that since the independence of this country in October 1960, which is 53 years ago, the North had ruled Nigeria for 40 years, while the South West ruled Nigeria for almost 12 years.
“Therefore it is not the turn of the North to rule Nigeria now, and it is not the turn of the South West also to rule Nigeria. President Goodluck Jonathan should be allowed to do his second term. Moreover he is still giving the dividends of democracy and promising more to Nigerians despite the security challenges and insurgency in the North.”

Ukadike also stated clearly that after President Jonathan must have completed his second tenure in 2019, it would become the turn of an Igbo man to become Nigeria’s next President. He also opined that Igbos have not been treated duly as regards national issues.

“It is the turn of Ndigbo to produce the next President of Nigeria in 2020 immediately after President Jonathan’s second term in office. And that an Igbo man succeeds President Jonathan is a must.

“That if the Igbos are not giving their fair turn to produce the President of Nigeria immediately after President Jonathan’s second term in office, then we will come to an inevitable conclusion that the Igbos are not wanted in Nigeria and then the unavoidable consequences will be everyone to his tent, because we have endured enough. This is our final resolution and it is not negotiable,”

SISC as an organisation also called on the Boko Haram sect to drop their arms and dialogue with the Federal Government so as to end the current insurgency in the North-East of Nigeria

Fuji legend, Alhaji Abass Akande known in music circles as Obesere has been apprehended by the Lagos state police for allegedly raping Miss Olanike Olaiya. Olanike is a 29 years old business woman who resides in the Okota axis of Lagos.

The victim who holds a National Diploma graduate of business administration from Ibadan Polytechnic narrated the story to Vanguard newspaper:

“I got to know Obesere through one of my friends, Mrs Bola Okoro. She told me that Obesere would assist me in my business.

“I deal in office equipment and when I contacted Obesere, he asked me to meet him in his family house at Okota. When I met him, I introduced my business to him and he promised to connect me to some of his friends in Dubai who would sell goods to me on credit.

“After the discussion, he started demanding for sex and I refused and when I wanted to leave, he insisted I should sleep over in his house because it was late and he claimed that it was dangerous to go out late in the night in his area.”

“I thought he was a responsible man and I decided to sleep over, but at the dead of the night, he came into the room where I slept and pounced on me.”

Sadiq Abacha To Wole Soyinka: Attacking My Father Is An Act Of Cowardice

I have grown and watched you criticize regime after regime and at that young and naive age I was thinking why wouldn’t this man just contest to be president so that Nigeria can be saved, I would have defiantly voted for Mr Soyinka if it would have brought an end to Nigeria’s woes. To my utter surprise, I heard about your FRSC leadership and how funds were misused and a great deal of it unaccounted for.

If you want to think, speak and act logically then you should know all three.

1. The law of identity
2. The law of excluded middle
3. The law of non contradiction.

Now let’s look at each one of these and see what they mean in practice.

1. The law of identity
The law of identity means that things are what they are, which at first doesn’t seem very illuminating, but wait; it implies also the following, that things are what they are, whether you like them or not, it implies that things are what they are whether you know them or not, it implies that things are what they are whether you agree with them or not. However, if you don’t like the facts as they are you are going to have to put up with them, because facts are what they are, if it’s raining on your golf day, get used to it! Because the facts are what they are and are often not what you want them to be, like if the traffic lights turn red when you approach, stop complaining! The law of identity means that you must adapt yourself to the facts and start your work from there, it implies that the facts will not bend to meet your expectations. You must first adapt yourself to what life is and then get to work changing and improving things in your life, be brave to meet reality as it really is and not how you would wish it to be.

2. The law of excluded middle
The law of excluded middle means that you should give a straight yes or no answer always and there is no middle ground. The law means that there is no kinda yes and kinda no, there is no ‘sort of’ being married because you are either married or you are not, you are either a thief or you are not, you are either on time or not, you are either living in Nigeria or you are not. The law is the idea that you should not try to keep all of your options open by staying in the middle or hedging, when it suits you, like when you accepted an appointment during IBB’s regime as chairman of FRSC. I bet that was a military regime you partook in. Please pick one wife and state your claim 100% to her, pick one idea and go for it 100%! Decide and commit Sir! There you might find great power and self satisfaction in the doctrine of decide and commit. No half way measures, no middle ground, exclude the middle! Here! The law of excluded middle Sir.

3. The law of non contradiction
The law of non contradiction says don’t contradict yourself simple. If you say you will be there then be there. If you say you will do it then do it. Don’t say or fight for one thing and then do the opposite. Don’t say one thing and then later deny that you said it. Don’t say one thing and then later contradict it. Be consistent in your thoughts and actions. Observing someone who was a socialist in the morning but then became a capitalist in the evening is a textbook on contradiction, these are two polar opposites, such a person is clearly inconsistent and is therefore considered a flip flop, confused, easily led or misled or at best a lunatic who has no clear understanding of the basis of either doctrine.

Apply these three logics to others with consistency and then you can ask for the same or expect the same from others, and then you can also ask for others to deal with facts not fantasy, which is the law of identity. Ask others to make up their mind to decide and commit. The law of excluded middle. Then ask others to follow through on the things that they say they would do. The law of non contradiction.

Sir, I believe brilliance is not perfection. “Oh my God! In the end he turned out to be just the same as everybody else” were my next thoughts. My hopes for you, all ended up in great disappointment.

Here I find myself defending my father 15 years after his death because some of you have no one else to pounce on, or rather, you have chosen a dead person to keep pouncing on over and over again when you have more than an array of contestants. A coward’s act I believe. ”A common writer” is what I have heard you being referred to lately, and I believe a mature mind would now agree to such referrals. With all due respect, there is a great challenge that faces the country, we have to put our heads together, rather than clashing, our collective ships must sail in the same direction, let us leave the ghosts of past contention and face the future bravely as one, criticizing the past does not help the present or define a path to the future.

You say, with the weight of your sense of history and the authority you possess on national issues that ” a vicious usurper under whose authority the lives of an elected president and his wife were snuffed out” referring to my late father, you must be growing old, or you would rightly recall that that president elect you refer to did not die while my father was alive. Did you slyly change your facts to fit a history that would better serve your narrative, or are you just plain forgetful? Either way, it shows you are losing your grasp of reality.

Comparing my father’s leadership to Boko Haram’s current reign of terror, is a rather cheap shot, you are in no position to examine, judge and sentence an entire regime based on the information you think you have, you are privy to almost none of the true facts, what is at your disposal is at best, hearsay, or were you ever minister of defence? Did you ever sit in during security meetings, evaluate the facts and subtleties of national security? You remind me of Obama criticizing the Republicans before he became a sitting president himself, vouching to put an end to all American occupation, this all came to an abrupt end once he had access to the briefs and security issues, economic and political, facing his nation. Surely he did what he could, and history will judge him. To lead is not to be a rock star, and to be a Nobel Laureate is not to be an antagonist of this country’s legacy. We are Africa’s leader, whether we like it or not, we cannot trivialize the centenary celebration, it happens only once, let us come together, if only for this one occasion and agree to disagree.

Open rebellion against the current government at this time, on the manner of the centenary celebrations, for whatever reason, is tactless, it is not about you, it is about our nation, our beloved country. There is a time and place for everything. My late father was a Nigerian, lived in Nigeria and died protecting our interests to the best of his ability, critiquing placing him on the honor roll, along with many deserving dignitaries is your right, you have the right to your own opinions, but you do not have the right to your own facts. Facts stand alone, regardless of who espouses them, let posterity judge, but you are clearly politicizing a dead issue, how could you not be? Having an issue with the naming of a hospital after the late General and leader? Really? Now?

It almost seems as if you want to turn back the hands of time, what else would you like to undo besides the naming of the hospital, would you like to unmake Bayelsa state, Zamfara state or the others? What about the advances we made in commerce, reducing the inflation rate, what about security and welfare, how many projects, hospitals and schools were created? inflation went from 54% to 8.5%! my father oversaw an increase in our foreign currency reserves from 494 million dollars in 1993 to 9.6 billion dollars by the middle of 1997, that is unprecedented , 15 years after the PTF the benefits are still being reaped today in Nigeria, What of peace keeping and nation building, not just in West Africa but the entire continent, restoring democracy in Liberia and Sierra Leone, all these under my father’s leadership, are all these not laudable? Or would you like to undo them all. All this on 8$ per barrel of oil! You have to be kidding me.

You are a learned man, you would have to undo all your learning to knowingly wish to undo all these achievements! I will be the first to proclaim that my fathers leadership was not pitch perfect or spot free, that does not exist, maybe in utopia but not here on this earth, so let us keep our discourse set in the sphere of reality please, he deserves the award, and he did not campaign for it, let it go, Sir…and allow Nigeria to at least bask in our survival and endurance in our growing prosperity and development in these trying times. I have been accused of being an optimist, hence, I am optimistic that you will come around and accept that we can all come together and face the future together, forgive each other our wrongs while celebrating our rights, I am still an admirer of your works after all, however, I cannot and will not attempt to answer your every charge, this is not the time or place, this is a time for solidarity, if only you were wise enough to grasp this.

I applaud the patience of President Goodluck Jonathan and his composure and restraint in not having a knee jerk reaction at such a pivotal moment in our nations history, but you would mar the occasion, Sir, in the future, please pick your battles, and do better to safeguard your relevance, Enough Sir!

Gunmen Kill, Burn Houses In Riyom Plateau State

NAN

The Police in Plateau said nine persons were killed on Tuesday night attack on Angwan-Waran in Riyom Local Government of the State.

Mr Chris Olakpe, the Commissioner of Police in Plateau, in Jos on Wednesday said that the attackers had fled the area before the arrival of security agents.

He said the police and other personnel of the Special Task Force (STF) maintaining the peace in Plateau, had stepped in and restored normalcy to the area.

“To check against recurrence, the police and the STF have deployed a team of security personnel to the village, while efforts are on to apprehend the attackers’’, he added.

The commissioner advised members of the public to help security agencies with any piece of information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.

STF Media Officer, Capt. Salisu Mustapha, who also confirmed the attack, said the invaders also burnt down houses in the village before escaping.

He, however, did not give the number of houses burnt.

Mustapha said the STF had arrested three persons found with arms and ammunition suspected to have been used for the attack.

“We are interrogating the suspects’’, he said

NAN

Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced two sex workers to three months imprisonment each for loitering and disorderly conduct.

The convicts are Blessing Esu, 28, and Rita Ume, 36.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the women had pleaded guilty to the charges of loitering and behaving in a disorderly or indecent manner in public place.

The Magistrate, Tokunbo Omoyele, who did not give the sex workers an option of fine, said the court had no option than to sentence them since they had admitted committing the offences.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Ighodalo, told the court that the two women committed the offences on March 1 at 2.30 a.m. on Victoria Island, Lagos.

For Starving The State Of Funds, Ekiti Lawmakers Call For Jonathan’s Impeachment

NAN

Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have called for the impeachment of President Goodluck Jonathan over the state allocation.

The call came after the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, raised an issue about an alleged shortchanging of the state by the Federal Government.

The governor told the State House of Assembly that for some time now the Ekiti State government had been starved of funds from the federal allocation.

In his presentation, Dr Fayemi also gave the breakdown of how the Federal Government had been shortchanging Ekiti State and requested for immediate payment of all outstanding allocations by NNPC.

At the end of the presentations, the governor made some request before the members of the house.

(1) Separation of the office of the Auditor General of the federation as well as the accountant general of the federation such that he can function independently

(2) Assessment of the revenue into the federation account.

(3) Immediate review of the revenue allocation.

After the governor’s presentation and request, the honorable members of the State House of Assembly moved into action the following day to deliberate on the issues.

The state lawmakers had divergent views on the issue.

Some said it was a deliberate attempt to starve the state of funds considering the fact that the state governorship election was just by the Conner.

The Speaker of the House, Honorable, Adewale Omirin, said the Federal Government had not been fair on the state.

“What the president has done is an impeachable offense,” he said.

Hon, Ogunlola, in her submissions, claimed that President Jonathan was no longer fighting corruption in the country, citing the case of the NNPC and Central Bank while Honorable Ade Ajayi said that the President’s action was tantamount to stealing and called for his impeachment.

Nigerians In Ukraine To Be Evacuated If The Crisis Escalates – Foreign Affairs

0

NAN

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, says the ministry is closely monitoring the development in Ukraine and will evacuate Nigerians in the country if the crisis escalates.

Onwuliri made the plan known to reporters during a dinner for workers in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Tuesday.

“The Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine is in touch with our nationals in Ukraine and, if the situation demands, we may have to evacuate,’’ she said.

The minister said there were about 7,000 Nigerians in Ukraine.

On the presence of Russian forces in Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula, Onwuliri said Nigeria was a “non-aligned nation’’ and would not support any party in the ongoing dispute in Ukraine.

“We will always study situations before we draw conclusions. That is what we are doing at this time,’’ she said.

Russian forces have occupied Crimea, surrounding airports and military bases in spite of wide-range condemnation from the U.S., Canada and many EU countries.

On Monday, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Joy Ogwu, had described the situation in Ukraine as “precarious’’.

Ogwu who spoke at a UN Security Council meeting in New York had called on the parties to embrace dialogue and seek a return to normalcy.

She had also called for a strict adherence to Article 2 of the UN Charter.

The article prohibits the threat or use of force against any territorial integrity or the political independence of any state.

Commenting on insurgency in the North-East region of Nigeria, Onwuliri said the country was in contact with Cameroon to improve co-operation on combating insurgency.

“Last month, Nigeria closed its northern border with Cameroon in an effort to shut out insurgents using border towns in Cameroon as a launch-pad for attacks.

“The two countries are friendly nations and Boko Haram is a challenge not just to Nigeria but the entire world, and we are working hard to confront this challenge.

“No country wants its territory to be challenged by terrorism but for us as a nation, we have taken additional steps and we are discussing with Cameroon,’’ she said.

Onwuliri said she had on many occasions summoned the Cameroonian Ambassador to Nigeria on the issue.

“When we feel worried, we call them in to talk so that they can relay our anxieties to their government.’’
