Bola Tinubu means nothing to President Muhammadu Buhari – Datti Baba-Ahmed

The Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Datti Baba-Ahmed says the presidential ambition of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), means nothing to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Baba-Ahmed spoke on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. According to him, Buhari has finished with Nigeria and he is going to “unmake Tinubu after all his political successes”.

“At the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly), he (Buhari) says the only legacy he can leave is a credible election. Now, this is a heartbreak for APC,” said Baba-Ahmed, the running mate to LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

“Who made Buhari after Almighty Allah? Tinubu. All the failed attempts (of Buhari), Tinubu came and added millions of votes and make Buhari.

“Who is going to unmake Tinubu after all his political successes? Buhari, because Buhari has finished his eight years. It is not about how well Nigeria was run or how bad Nigeria was run, they have finished with Nigeria, they have finished with everybody. Tinubu can go to blazes; it means nothing to Buhari and that is Buhari for you.”

Baba-Ahmed also said he has demolished all the roadblocks mounted on the path of Obi in the north, noting that the former governor of Anambra State is now well-received by youths and other demographical brackets in the region which traditionally boasts of numerical strength during presidential elections.

According to him, the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are as good as gone and the only party in the country at the moment is the Labour Party.

One dead as underground drainage system collapses in Akwa Ibom

The victim identified as Marvelous was a construction worker and was buried under the collapsed structure.

Newsmen gathered that angry residents of the area have even started mobilizing for a mass protest over perceived human error coupled with poor rescue operation that led to the death.

Some of the community youths were said to have deployed manual efforts with shovels, as the company could not immediately bring an excavator to rescue the victim.

A resident of the area identified as Mfon Udo, who said he personally assisted in the rescue operation, said: “The victim could have been rescued alive, but for lack of earth-moving equipment like an excavator.

“We joined in digging the spot for over four hours to get at his remains, heavily pressed down in the rubbles.

Another resident of Itu local government area Effiong Bassey urged governor Udom Emmanuel to cancel the contract and re-award it to a major company with excellent safety standards like the Julius Berger, before his tenure ends next year.

“We have been completely cut-off from Uyo, the state capital because of perennial floods that submerged houses and people losing their lives every rainy season.

“So, when we saw contractors being mobilized to the site, we commended the governor for this rescue mission, but it turned out to be a big disaster to the people” Bassey lamented.

One Emmanuel Akpan even disclosed to newsmen on Sunday: “Since the accident happened, the contractor has disappeared with their equipment from the site. And from the look of things, the job has been abandoned”

Marry more wives like Northerners to serve Nigeria, Ned Nwoko urges Southern men

Billionaire Ned Nwoko has urged Southern men to marry more wives like their Northern counterparts to serve Nigeria.

The billionaire, who has four wives and 19 children, attributed the high level of prostitution to Southerners shunning polygamy.

In an interview with Guardian on Saturday, Nwoko said a man with multiple wives focuses more on them than a monogamous man who lavishes money on girlfriends.

He also referred to his ancestral lineage and that of the Ooni of Ife, known for multiple wives.

Nwoko, who is seeking the senatorial seat for the Delta North, said: “Many women are out there on their own without husbands, especially in the southern part of the country, and there is a high level of prostitution.

“What some of our girls do to make ends meet is regrettable and if our men emulate their northern counterparts by having more than one wife, that could probably change the situation.

“The average southern may have only one wife but many girlfriends also, and he is spending his money on the girlfriends; sometimes even more than on his wife.

“The man, who has three wives, for instance, concentrates on them and his children; every money he makes is spent on the family and he is more likely not to have any girlfriends or concubines. The money those with several girlfriends spend on them is a gift, not an investment in the family.”

Nwoko added that he and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, were serving Nigeria by marrying many women.

“My grandfather and the Ooni’s grandfather and the then Olowo of Owo took many photographs together. So, the Ooni and I have that kind of common background, because our grandfathers were kings and served Nigeria in that capacity. And we are now also serving Nigeria by having many wives,” he stressed.

Akande said the vice-president’s reciprocal visit to Vietnam was proof of the country’s commitment to strengthening long-standing diplomatic relations.

The spokesman also said Osinbajo would be “the second Nigerian high-ranking incumbent government official to visit the southeast Asian country after President Olusegun Obasanjo who visited in 2005.”
