We are doing this project to celebrate these women, let the world see and appreciate them. In doing so, we can thereby build more role models that will be contributing to National Development.”

The event also witnessed many of the unsung heroines in our society who have been neglected, part of whom was the popular Mama Makoko of the Makoko community in Lagos.

COSEG Regrets Appointment of Suspected Murderer Of Bola Ige As Police Minister

The Coalition of Oodua Self-Determination Groups (COSEG) considers the appointment of Mr. Jelili Adeshiyan as the Police Affairs Minister an insult to the Yoruba people. Mr Jelili Adesiyan has been linked to the death of the former Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige.

“It is also an attempt to shield him and his cohorts from prosecution over the death of the former Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige,” the group disclosed.

At the end of its monthly meeting where the state of the nation was discussed, the body through a statement by its Chairman and Secretary, Ifedayo Ogunlana and Rasak Olokoba described the appointment as an attempt to pervert the course of justice and also a disservice to the memory of Chief Bola Ige.

“A man, who is an aide of Senator Iyiola Omisore, known for violence and brigandage, cannot be trusted in such a position. He is still under investigation for the murder of Ige, yet he is a Minister in charge of a government agency.

“This calls to question the anti-corruption crusade of the Jonathan administration.”

“We have noticed the hatred President Jonathan has for our people. This is why a suspected murderer could be appointed as a Police Affairs Minister.”

The group regretted the hast confirmation of the minister who they consider a suspected murderer despite senators fro Osun stat opposing his nomination.

“We are confused on how a man standing trial for murder could have scaled the screening of the security as well as that of the Senate.

“It is also worrisome how our security system works if a suspected murderer, who has a case in court, could scale through security screening.

“This is why government has been unable to stop Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast,” the group said.

“The appointment of Adesiyan is not only mischievous, but also reckless, immoral, anti-people and a dangerous trend in the political development and appointments because he who asks for equity must come with clean hands.

“The appointment of Adesiyan is flawed. The Jonathan administration cannot continue to scorn the late Ige, an ex-Justice Minister.”

COSEG promised to resist any purported attempt by the President to use the Minister in rigging the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.

Tambuwal: Boko Haram Sect Has Murdered Sleep & Deserve No Peace

The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal has urged the Federal Government to fight the Boko Haram sect more. He declared that the terrorists have murdered sleep and deserve no sleep themselves. In his speech titled, ‘One Massacre too many’, he asked the government to consider the call for state police.

He also recalled the killing of 59 students of the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State on the 25th of February by members of the Boko Haram sect. He said that day will always remain infamous in the history of Nigeria.

His statement read:

When innocent, harmless and defenceless women and children become the targets of these heartless murderous bandits; when the lives of sleeping children are so callously snuffed out, it becomes clear that these agents of terror have murdered sleep and they henceforth deserve none.

“Whatever grievances the terrorists harbour against the government of Nigeria, Nigeria’s innocent children have nothing to do with it. Nigeria’s children bear no responsibility for either policy making or policy implementation in Nigeria.

“It is therefore an act of cowardice worthy of ringing condemnation to target the children to strike at those who are not only innocent but are also unable to strike back or defend themselves. There can be no reason, no justification and no acceptable excuse for this act of mindless brutality.

“Whatever message the terrorists set out to send to the Nigerian government has been drowned out by the cries for justice by the blood of these innocent martyrs.

“Today is not a day to apportion blames. It is a day for the expression of our sense of personal and national losses. But it is also a day for us to look for concrete solutions.”

He added, “What about integrating local security structures into the regular security windows of the Nigerian Police Force with the federal, state and local governments supporting them with necessary resources?

“ Is it perhaps time for us to revisit the idea of State Police?

“How do we develop an institutional framework for securing the land through a neighbourhood audit, where a tab is kept on every member and every housing structure whether completed or uncompleted?”

MASSOB Accuses Police Of Stage-Managing Enugu Government House Attack

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) was recently accused for the attack on Enugu State Government house last Saturday but in a twist of events, MASSOB  has accused their accusers, the Enugu State Police Command of actually carrying out the attack.

On Monday, the Enugu state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Adamu during a press briefing on Monday accused MASSOB of masterminding the attack.

MASSOB’s national director of information, Mr. Uchenna Madu in a press statement has now accused the police of stage-managing the attack.

Part of the statement reads:

“The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, wishes to inform Ndigbo and Biafrans in general that last week violence attack in Enugu Government House was not carried out by our members.

“The police allegations were baseless, it is an act of cowardice, and their intention is to tarnish our good, respected and acceptable image in Igbo land.

“The people Enugu State Commissioner of police gave their names are not our members, the whole drama is an arrangement of Enugu State Police Command thinking that MASSOB name should be brought to mud.

“The C. P. wants to create a negative impression that MASSOB is at war with Government. He wants the Federal Government and the international communities to see MASSOB as a dissident group, to equal MASSOB with BOKO HARAM”.

The statement claims MASSOB does not go about their activities during odd hours and had no plans of hoisting the Biafran flag in Government institutions:

“The people that police claim they arrested carried their operations in the midnight, which portrayed them as criminals; MASSOB does not conduct activities in the odd hours, and we don’t have any plan or agenda of hoisting Biafra Flags in Government institutions.

“It is possible that politically sponsored persons or some groups that attached the name of Biafra to themselves can carry Biafra Flags or any other Biafra identities to cause such confusion and violent acts.

“The police command knew that the arrested persons are not MASSOB members but the C.P seized the opportunity to blackmail MASSOB because of his tribal and religions hatred on Ndigbo.

“No amount of their blackmail, allegations or wrong impression will deter MASSOB from Biafra actualization.

“MASSOB still remains the only pride and glory of Ndigbo and our people are solidly behind us as Yorubas and Hausa- Fulanis strongly supports O. P. C. and Boko Haram, respectively”.
