Breaking: President Jonathan In A Surprise Visit To Nigerian Troops In Maiduguri

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan has just landed in Maiduguri Airport in a surprise visit to the hotbed of Boko Haram’s insugency which has claimed thousands of lives.

The Chief of Defense staff, Air Vice Marshall Alex Badeh and National Security adviser, Sambo Dasuki arrived the airport in a separate aircraft.

Sources in Maiduguri say Governor Kashim Shettima arrived the airport to receive the president and the visit is to pay respect and boost the confidence of the Nigerian Troops there.

The unscheduled visit however coincides with the nigerian armed forces remembrance day, Jonathan earlier today in Abuja honoured the fallen soldiers along with other senior government functionaries.

The visit weeks to an election year can only be attributed to the next months general election, another source tells NewsWireNGR.

Maiduguri, the Borno state capital has been the stronghold of the deadly islamic sect, Boko Haram, responsible for the deaths and massacre of thousands of Nigerians.
