Abubakar Audu Had Complained Of A Certain Food He Ate In Lokoja On Friday, Family Sources Say

News of the demise of the All Progressives Congress Candidate, Abubakar Audu came soon after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the governorship election held in Kogi on Saturday inconclusive, following the cancellation of the results of the poll in 91 polling units.

Chieftains of the APC who had started congratulating themselves, following preliminary results that favoured the APC during the collation process, were thrown into shock.

A source at the party’s headquarters in Abuja said chieftains of the party embarked on frantic phone calls immediately news of the death of their governorship candidate broke, with some reaching out to the president who was informed of Audu’s demise immediately he landed in Teheran, Iran, where he is attending a gas summit.

The late Audu was said to have complained of stomach ache on Saturday soon after returning from the polling booth where he had gone to vote in his country home at Ogbonicha, Ofu Local government. He was advised to take a rest.

There are different versions of how he passed, with some saying he died at 10am on Sunday, while some others said he slumped and died after INEC declared the result of the Kogi governorship election inconclusive.

Personal Assistant to the late former governor, Alhaji Isah Atodo, told newsmen that the APC candidate died in the early hours of Sunday, even before the governorship poll was declared inconclusive.

Abubakar’s death, according to another family source, was not unconnected with the running stomach he had the previous day, which made him vomit seriously.

He said Audu had complained of a certain food he ate in Lokoja on Friday before embarking on the journey to his country home in Ogbonicha, Ofu local government.

The deceased politician was very close to making history when he died suddenly. He would have been the only person in the country with the record of being elected three times.

One of the aides of the APC candidate, Tenimu Nasidi, said that as Muslims, his kinsmen and associated had taken his death in good faith as they strongly believe that God gives and God takes.

“To me I believe that his time was up; nothing any man could do to stop it,” he said, adding that the former governor will be buried today according to Muslim rights.

Other reports suggest that the late Audu fell sick after casting his vote last Saturday and complained. He was said to have had a heart attack.

Kebbi Governor Bagudu Is Wanted In The U.S Over The Looting Of $600million During The Reign Of Sani Abacha

Governor of Kebbi State,  Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of the APC, is wanted in the United States of America, over his involvement in the looting of over $600million during the reign of late General Sani Abacha, pointblanknews.cominvestigation has revealed.

Bagudu, according to documents obtained by pointblanknews.com from the U.S Department of Justice, masterminded the stealing of millions of U.S Dollars from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, wired same to several foreign accounts through phony companies he set up for himself and the Abacha family.

U.S government sources told pointblanknews.com that the U.S had under the Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiatives, mentioned Bagudu’s involvement in Abacha’s money laundering scandal to President Buhari, and sought for his support to bring the Kebbi Governor to justice.

This is even as Bagudu and his family are currently fighting civil forfeiture claims to an additional approximately $148 million, part of the money he stole, kept in four investment portfolios in the United Kingdom, a U.S Department of Justice confirmed to Pointblanknews.com.

Documents shows that Between January 1994 and June 1998, General Sani Abacha, National Security Advisor Gwarzo, and Governor Bagudu and Mohammed Abacha stole more than $2 billion from Nigeria by fraudulently and falsely representing that the funds were to be used for national security
purposes.

The United States had in 2014 taken control of more than $480 million out of the over $600million looted by former Nigerian dictator Sani Abacha, Bagudu, Mohammed Abacha and others after a court ruling, the U.S JusticeDepartment said.

However, litigations on the $148million is pending because Bagudu has refused to cooperate with investigators and overtures said to have been made to President Mohammadu Buhari on the matter during his U.S visit has not yielded any fruit, a USDOJ official informed pointblanknews.com on
condition of anonymity.

An email from Peter Carr of the U.S Department of Justice, USDOJ, to pointblanknews.com confirmed Bagudu’s lack of cooperation on the crimes he committed against Nigeria and the United States and his fight to stop the forfeiture of $148million held in different portfolios in United Kingdom.

Carr in the email to Pointblanknews.com said: “As you are probably aware, the Justice Department brought a civil forfeiture action against more than $600 million traced to corruption in Nigeria during the regime of Sani Abacha.

“Abubakar Bagudu, who is not cooperating with our investigation, is named in the complaint, which also lays out the government’s position on his role. His relatives are contesting the forfeiture of over $100 million of the total the Justice Department is seeking to forfeit.”

“We are yet to get any cooperation over Abubakar Bagudu from the Nigerian Government,” a Justice Department source told Pointblanknews.com

The Kebbi Governor set up phony companies such as Doraville Properties Corporation (Doraville)  in the British Virgin Islands on July 2, 1997 and was a director and authorized signatory on its bank accounts at Deutsche Bank AG and at Deutsche Bank International Limited (Jersey) (DBIL), Eagle
Alliance International Limited (Eagle Alliance) incorporated in Ireland on August 9, 1994, was an authorized signatory on its accounts at Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) Grindlays Plc, in London, England, and at Goldman Sachs & Co. in Zurich.

Bagudu also set up Harbour Engineering and Construction Limited (Harbour Engineering) in the British Virgin Islands and was an authorized signatory on its account at Banque SBA in Paris, Mecosta Securities, Inc. (Mecosta) in the British Virgin Islands on October 9, 1995 and was an authorized
signatory on accounts in the name of Mecosta at ANZ (London); Standard Bank in London, England (Standard Bank); Credit Agricole Indosuez in London, England; Goldman Sachs in Zurich, Switzerland; and Banque Baring Brothers in Geneva, Switzerland.

The APC Kebbi Governor also incorporated Morgan Procurement Corporation (Morgan Procurement) in the British Virgin Islands on January 24, 1995. Bagudu was an authorized signatory on its four accounts at the Union Bank of Nigeria Plc in London, England, Rayville International, S.A. (Rayville)
in the British Virgin Islands and was also an authorized signatory on its account, number 223405880IUSD, at Banque SBA in Paris.

Also for the purposes of stealing funds, Bagudu set up The Ridley Trust registered in Guernsey, Channel Islands, on September 22, 1997. The Ridley Trust is the sole shareholder of the Ridley Group and he was the Ridley Trust’s prime beneficiary, Ridley Group Limited (Ridley Group) was also incorporated in the British Virgin Islands on June 10, 1997.

He also set up Standard Alliance Financial Services Limited (Standard Alliance) was incorporated in the British Virgin Islands. Bagudu was an authorized account signatory for account number 223406510PUSD in the name of Standard Alliance at Banque SBA.

According to the U.S documents, Bagudu, an associate of General Abacha and his sons participated in the conspiracy to steal and launder hundreds of millions of dollars.

Among other things, Bagudu played an instrumental role in setting up and executing the complicated financial transactions used to launder the proceeds of the conspiracy. He is also a signatory and/or corporate representative designated on many of the Abacha’s assets

According to the documents, General Abacha and Gwarzo executed false national security letters directing the withdrawal of funds from the CBN, referred to as “security votes” letters after a practice by which Nigerian governors received a budgetary allocation for security purposes. Rather than use the funds for national security purposes, the stolen money was transported out of Nigeria and deposited into accounts controlled by General Abacha’s associates, including Mohammed Abacha and Bagudu.

Over sixty false security votes letters were addressed to and endorsed by General Abacha, each of which resulted in the withdrawal of Nigeria’s public funds from the CBN.

Subsequently, the funds were deposited into accounts controlled by, or used to purchase assets for the benefit of, General Abacha, Bagudu, or other members of the conspiracy.

Some of the false letters used for the fraud dated June 2, 1994, by Gwarzo stated:

“In view of the on-going negative campaign against this country, a small international operation has been mounted to cover it…please approve as a matter of urgency, the sum of Five Million Dollars…for this operation.”

By letter, dated November 30, 1994, Gwarzo falsely stated: “[$100 million dollars are requested] to combat an economy that was deflected and distorted through the black market.”

By letter, dated August 20, 1996, Gwarzo falsely stated: “In light of the current political situation in the country, coupled with the increase in security operations…. there is need for a lot of funds to handle the challenges outlined above such that I require Three hundred and fifty million Naira [N350,000,000.00] plus Thirty million dollars [$30,000,000] and Fifteen million Pounds [£15,000,000.00] …Please consider desperate need and approve.”

In order to move the money overseas, Bagudu deposited the cash proceeds of the Security Votes Fraud into at least one of two Nigerian commercial banks, Union Bank of Nigeria and/or Inland Bank of Nigeria. Bagudu referred to the money deposited into Union Bank and Inland Bank as his
“cash swaps.” Bagudu and/or Mohammed Abacha then instructed Union Bank or Inland Bank to transfer the stolen funds to other accounts under Bagudu or Mohammed Abacha’s  control, such as accounts in the name of Mecosta, Rayville, and Eagle Alliance.

Inland Bank or Union Bank made the necessary arrangements to transfer the money overseas.

The funds were transferred from Union Bank or Inland Bank back to the CBN, to an account held by Union Bank or Inland Bank at the CBN. The CBN then transferred the funds from the account of Union Bank or Inland Bank to their respective overseas domiciliary accounts held at banks in either
London or New York.

Through these “cash swaps,” at least $137 million was transported into and out of the United States, and into accounts held in the name of the Bagudu and his collaborators.

For example, the documents said:

(a)Between July 1995 and April 1996, $18.3 million was deposited into accounts in Nigeria at Union Bank and Inland Bank controlled by Mohammed Abacha and Bagudu. These funds were subsequently wire transferred into and out of correspondent accounts at financial institutions in the United
States for deposit into accounts held in the names of Eagle Alliance or Mecosta at ANZ (London).

The transfer of these funds was accomplished through transactions including, but not limited to, the following:

(i) On or about October 10, 1995, Bagudu caused the wire transfer of $5 million from an account at Union Bank of Nigeria into and out of a correspondent account at Barclays Bank Plc., New York, into a
correspondent account at ANZ (New York), for credit to the Eagle Alliance account at ANZ (London).

ii) On or about November 5, 1995, Bagudu caused the wire transfer of $6 million from a domiciliary account of Union Bank of Nigeria into and out of a correspondent account at Barclays Bank Plc., New York, and then into and out of a correspondent account at ANZ (New York), for credit to the Eagle Alliance account at ANZ (London). This $6 million was credited to the Eagle Alliance account on or about November 13, 1995.
(iii) On or about January 3, 1996, Bagudu caused the wire transfer of approximately $320,000 from Inland Bank of Nigeria into and out of a correspondent account at Morgan Guaranty Trust Bank, New York, and then into and out of a correspondent account at ANZ (New York), for credit to
the Eagle Alliance account at ANZ (London).
(b) Between August 1995 and November 1995, at least $7.2 million in proceeds from the Security Votes Fraud was deposited into the Eagle  Alliance account at ANZ (London) by or on behalf of Alhaji Ahmadu Daura, an associate of Mohammed Abacha. These funds included monies withdrawn from the CBN in the form of cash and traveler’s checks. The monies were first deposited into accounts controlled by Daura at London Trust Bank in Nigeria and then wired to the Eagle Alliance account at ANZ (London).
(c) In 1997, an additional $20 million in proceeds from the Security Votes Fraud were wire transferred from the Inland Bank of Nigeria Plc’s domiciliary account at Commerzbank AG in London, into and out of correspondent bank Credit Lyonnais, New York, for deposit into account number 223405880IUSD held in the name of Rayville at Banque SBA in Paris.
(d) On or about July 17, 1997, another $10 million in proceeds from the Security Votes Fraud were wire transferred from the Inland Bank of Nigeria Plc’s domiciliary account at Commerzbank AG in London into and out of correspondent bank Credit Lyonnais,

When Pointblanknews.com contacted the Governor’s Spokesman, Abubakar Dankingari, he referred the issues to the Chief of staff to the Governor, Sulaiman Argungun.

Argungu told Pointblanknews.com that the Governor should be sent a letter from the U.S. He Said he would not respond to the issues because they are personal to the Governor and that he also won’t talk to journalists he has never met or seen. He asked that the U.S do write a letter to the Governor if they indeed have anything against him.

His opponent at the polls, Idris Wada who is incumbent governor of the state has declared seven days mourning for the late Audu.

The APC governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, who was waiting to be declared the winner of the election, has instead been declared dead.

He was said to have had a massive stroke around 3:10 pm today in his village of Ogbonicha and died. Some minutes after INEC returning officer Professor Emmanunel Kucha declared the result of the poll inconclusive.

Sources said he was vomiting blood at some stage, but was stabilised by doctors around him. However his condition worsened this morning, culminating in a massive stroke. Just when an air ambulance was being organised to lift him for better medicare, he gave up the ghost.

Audu, from the results declared by the INEC, from the 21 local councils in the state, had won 16 and was clearly ahead of the PDP opponent and incumbent, Idris Wada.

But INEC declared the election inconclusive, despite projections by the media that he had won. A lesson to the media not to project election results again.

According to family sources, Mr. Audu started vomiting blood on Friday night in what family sources described as a bizarre deterioration in his health condition. One of the family sources described the late controversial politician as hypertensive.

“He started vomiting blood after he returned from Lokoja,” said the family source who witnessed Mr. Audu’s deterioration.

He added that Mr. Audu woke up very tired on Saturday, the day of the governorship election. He said doctors had given the former governor blood transfusion which gave him enough energy to go to the polling booth to vote in his hometown, Ogbonicha.

According to the source, Mr. Audu returned to his home on Saturday and began vomiting again. “After a while he became unconscious and died around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning,” said the source, who requested anonymity.

The family’s timeline of Mr. Audu’s death indicated that he passed on before officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) started collation and announcement of results.

A source at INEC told SaharaReporters that electoral officials knew of Mr. Audu’s death before they announced the results of his election inconclusive on Sunday.

Mr. Audu was a former governor of Kogi who was accused of stealing billions of naira from the state’s treasury. SaharaReporters had exposed a multi-million dollar home bought by the ex-governor in Potomac, Maryland near Washington, DC.

The APC chose Mr. Audu as its governorship candidate despite the fact that he was being tried for money laundering and embezzlement of state funds by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mr. Audu will be buried tomorrow according to islamic rites in his hometown.

NEC returning officer for the election, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha of Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, said no party could be declared the winner yet since the numbers of cancelled votes was more than the difference between the first placed Prince Abubakar Audu of APC and the second placed Capt. COCIN Slams Northern Governors Over Refusal To Grant Land Titles To Churches

Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, has protested against persistent refusal of some Northern governors to grant them land titles to build churches.

The group, therefore, called on the 19 Northern State governors to, as matter of urgency, grant churches tittles to land for building places of worship, especially as Nigeria was a secular state and should not be seen in whatever guise to favour any sect above the other.

The church again condemned the terror attack in France, describing as barbaric the killing of Christians who are law abiding citizens of other faiths in Syria and its environ by ISIS, and also expressed sadness with the recent bomb attacks in Yola, Adamawa and Kano states respectively.

The church made their decision known in a communique signed by the COCIN President, Reverend Dachollom Datiri and its General Secretary, Reverend Amos Mohzo, issued at the end of the 89th General Church Council of the church of Christ in Nations held at the COCIN Headquarters Jos, Plateau State capital.

Reading the Communique on behalf of 280 clergy in attendance, the COCIN President said the church has suffered maltreatment in some northern states where they have refused to grant land tittles for the building of places of worship, saying doing so will further create disunity for the country.

Reverend Datiri also called on President Muhammadu Buhari and his cabinet to dust the report of the national conference and implement the recommendations contained therein for the progress and development of the nation.

The clergy commended President Buhari for appointing ministers and his resolve to fight corruption, and also called on the newly appointed ministers to be selfless in discharging their duties and in their service to the Nation.

The COCIN President however, advised all its pastors and members to become key players in the fight against corruption, saying as members of the body of Christ, they need to be true disciples at all times.

COCIN also resolved to adopt a holistic approach towards the actualisation of the Karl Kum University project by the year 2016.

MASSOB Claims Radio Biafra Director, “Nnamdi Kanu May Have Died”

The leadership of a faction for the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, weekend, alleged that Nnamdi Kanu, the promoter of Radio Biafra, detained by security operatives, may have been murdered.

In a statement in Abakaliki, MASSOB factional Director of Information, Comrade Uchenna Madu, stated that information about Kanu’s murder was made available to the group through some security operatives sympathetic to the Biafran cause.

“Factional MASSOB has discovered that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu detained by Nigeria has been murdered in Abuja,”Madu said.

“Information to Biafra Intelligence Agency (BIA), through operatives sympathetic to the Biafran cause revealed it to us. Pro. Biafran groups may not believe it until Monday, Nov 23 when Nnamdi will be arraign in court.

“The cause information we are receiving from Abuja is not healthy, we’re still waiting till Monday. Nnamdi Kanu is the arrowhead of the Biafra agitation. Nigeria should be extremely careful on Nnamdi Kanu”.

“If government extra judicially kills Nnamdi Kanu, Nigeria will experience the worst volcanic rebellion and aggression.

“We call on the Ohaneze Ndigbo, South East Govs, Igbo leaders of thought, South-East and South-South Professionals, Igbo National Assembly members, traditional /religious leaders to call Nigeria’s Presidency to order now.

“We demand that Nnamdi Kanu must appear in court on Monday, Nov 23 alive or dead. We love non-violence & wish to maintain it but Nigeria is pushing Biafrans to the wall”.

Former Petroleum Minister, Madueke Says “Buhari Was Accused Of N2.8 bln Scam As Oil Minister”

Former Oil minister, Diezani Madueke who is currently undergoing successful treatment for cancer in the United Kingdom has stated that Nigeria has a well recorded history of vilifying its oil ministers.

In an interview with Dele Momodu’s Boss Newspaper, Madueke said even President Muhammad Buhari as an oil minister (1976-1978) under then head of state, General Olusegun Obasanjo was accused of N2.8 billion fraud when same amount disappeared from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corpration’s (NNPC) Midlands Bank account in the UK.

She added, “Till this day no one has been able to prove that the then Major General stole a kobo.”

She also named other former ministers who have been vilified to include Prof. Tam David West.

Madueke declared that the allegations of corruption against her are false, insisting that as a technocrat with sufficient experience at Shell, she was used to keeping proper accounts.

She insinuated that during her time as an oil boss she knew she stepped on some powerful toes both home and abroad just to ensure that Nigerians got the best deal.

Governors’ Forum Have Declared War On Nigerian Workers Says NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said on Sunday that governors of the 36 states of the federation under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum have declared war on Nigerian workers by saying they were no longer in a position to pay the N18,000 minimum wage.

In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, the NLC said the declaration by the governors was an attempt to frustrate efforts by organized labour to table a proposal for a review of the current minimum wage which was signed in 2011.

The NLC said it was prepared to fight any attempt to frustrate improved workers’ welfare in the country, saying organized labour was ready to do battle to raise the living standard of Nigerian workers.

The congress said: “The Nigeria Labour Congress is shocked by the statement credited to the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, Governor Abdulaziz Yari, that the N18,000 National Minimum Wage promulgated into law in 2011 was no longer sustainable because of the fall in the price of crude oil.

“The governor who was speaking on behalf of his colleagues at the end of a meeting of the Forum also claimed that the National Minimum Wage was imposed.

SERAP Wants Attorney General To Prosecute 31 Former Governors

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sent an open letter to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mallam Abubakar Malami, SAN requesting him to “urgently take steps to take over and prosecute all 31 former governors suspected of official corruption while in office.”

SERAP said this action “is necessary to send a strong signal that the President Muhammadu Buhari government will not tolerate high level official corruption no matter who is involved, and to secure public confidence and trust in the office of the Attorney General.”

The letter dated 20 November 2015 and signed by SERAP executive director Adetokunbo Mumuni reads in part: “This request is brought to give practical effect to the exercise of the powers of the Attorney-General under Section 174(1) (b) of the Constitution of Nigeria 1999 (as amended). The request is also entirely consistent with your widely publicised commitment to audit and pursue high level corruption cases and end the impunity of perpetrators in the country.”

“SERAP would like to draw your attention to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Report presented to the National Assembly in 2006 by the former Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Nuhu Ribadu. The Report, which was accepted and adopted by the National Assembly, documented the cases and indictments against 31 former governors.”

“SERAP urges you to seek and obtain a copy of the Report from the National Assembly, and to use this as a basis to pursue prosecution of the governors. Pursuing these cases would help to enhance public confidence and trust in the office of Attorney General, as previous occupiers of the office seemed to be disinterested in prosecuting or facilitating prosecution of high level cases of official corruption.”

“SERAP believes that there is already a strong prima-facie case and sufficient information for you to exercise your constitutional authority and ensure that suspected perpetrators of high level official corruption are brought to justice fairly and to recover and repatriate stolen public wealth.”

“Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution grants to the Attorney-General the power to among others “(a) institute and undertake criminal proceedings against any person before any court of law in Nigeria, other than a court-martial, in respect of any offence created by or under any Act of the National Assembly; (b) to take over and continue any such criminal proceedings that may have been instituted by any other authority or person.” This section also requires the Attorney General to exercise his power having regard to “the public interest and the interest of justice.”

“SERAP believes that there is at the moment no greater public interest than an urgent and diligent prosecution of the cases of indicted 31 former governors. Because corruption is well entrenched in Nigeria, fighting it requires not only a minimum level of political will and an adequate and sensible strategy, but also involves being ready and able to confront powerful interest groups that clearly benefit from the status quo and will resist any such initiatives.”

“The full and effective prosecution of the former governors is a test case for the Buhari government’s commitment to fight corruption and end impunity of perpetrators in the country. By effectively prosecuting the indicted former governors, you would not only be exercising your constitutional mandate and authority but also protecting the sanctity and values entrenched in the 1999 Constitution. The allegations against the former governors are grave and prohibited by law.”

“Therefore, prioritising these cases is important to give practical effect to the constitutional principle of the rule of law. We believe that it is the involvement of many high-level public officials in corruption and the display of unsubstantiated wealth that have precipitated corruption among low level public servants in the country.”

“Pursuing the 31 cases would also help to obtain the international support and mutual legal cooperation and assistance required to recover and repatriate stolen wealth, which can then be spent to provide the much needed infrastructure and development of the country.”

“SERAP notes that 24 of the indicted 31 former governors by the EFCC have also been indicted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and their cases referred to the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammed Uwais for corruption trial.”

“SERAP hopes that you will take forward these cases as a matter of public interest and for the sake of justice for victims of corruption. SERAP will leave open the possibility of legal action to compel you to take steps in this direction.”
