The health condition of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari again panics Northern Elders even as the Presidency had denied online reports claiming that President Muhammadu Buhari was ill .
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, dismissed the report as false. Adesina said the President, was fine and discharging his duties as President of Nigeria.
Adesina then claimed that the President was ill with infection in his left ear, known as Meniere Disease, and that the President was being treated at the Presidential Villa by his personal physician and other experts from the State House Clinic.
Prominent Northern leaders and elders who spoke on phone with NewsWireNGR express concern about the condition of the President and his true state..
“We’ve been very worried considering how the aides of the President have reacted, he looked frail during his last broadcast which was obvious but the Aso Rock reports say he is find, only for them to now say he is travelling for treatment.” a prominent leader in the North tells NewsWireNGR.
Femi Adesina stated that the 73-year-old Buhari will today travel to London for 10 days to seek medical attention and take a rest.
“During the holiday, the President will see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist for a persistent ear infection, the statement reads.
President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said in a Channels Television programme that the President was hale and hearty . Same person who said the President is “fit as fiddle” only for him to release a completely contradicting statement 48hours later.
Another prominent elder from the North, who resides in Kaduna and doesn’t want his name in prints for the sensitivity of the report in a reply to our text message on his reaction to the President’s health condition wrote, “Buhari is 73, at that age he can be ill, it is normal but what worries some of us is how bad is his condition and if said condition will affect his work as Nigeria’s leader in this difficult times”.. The message reads.
NewsWireNGR recalls that, during the build up to the 2015 general elections, Northern Leaders who had initially declared support for the candidacy of General Muhammadu Buhari in the elections considered their position, following alarms that the general might be suffering a serious health challenge.
Sources say the General is allegedly suffering from prostrate Cancer but it could not be immediately confirmed from any medical records.
It was reported that Buhari collapsed during the presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Calabar, Cross River State.
Though the party had denied the report, it was learnt that the development had immediately prompted meetings among top hierarchy of the Northern political establishment to review the Buhari situation.
The North was becoming wary of a possible repeat of the situation it found itself following the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua in office in May 2010, some three years into his tenure, following a debilitating sickness.
Opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP through the party’s verified twitter handle claims that Maman Daura led cabal is keeping the President, the tweet reads “the cabal prevents everyone from seeing the president including his ministers and aides. The president is a prisoner in Aso Rock.”
@PdpNigeria wrote, “FLASH: just like we said last week, president Buhari is going to London to see his doctors. He has been critically ill for 14days now.”
“The cabal have convinced the president not to come clean and tell Nigerians that he is sick. They are managing the president secretly.”
It added that member of “The cabal are the ones running the country. They have turned the president into a prisoner.”
“There is a cabal around the president who are trying to plunge Nigeria into serious crisis. Mamman Daura is the head of that cabal.”
The illness had surfaced during the 2007 presidential campaign, leading to rumours of Yar’Adua’s death, but he bounced back on the campaign train and won the election.
Then APC spokesman in the South-East who now heads a government agency, Osita Okechukwu, had dismissed claims about Buhari’s health, saying that the alarm was designed to create doubts about the APC presidential candidate.
He said: “They are only trying to dig up what is non-existent; no record of their claim. The General has his doctor and anyone can contact him,
rather than speculate.”
The current ill-development was said to have been the reason the President couldn’t go to Lagos where he was billed to commission some projects penultimate week.
