Buhari Sacks 9 Top NNPC Officials, Retires 38 Directors

President Muhammadu Buhari has fired nine of the 16 managing directors of the Strategic Business Units (SBUs) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The sacked managing directors include Haruna Momoh of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Anthony U. Muoneke of Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), Engr. Jonathan Kwame Okehs of National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS).

A statement from NNPC spokesperson Ohi Alegbe yesterday said the president also approved the appointment of new managing directors thus: Esther Nnamdi Ogbue (PPMC), Abubakar Mai-Bornu (NPDC), Babatunde Bakare (Nigerian Gas Company, NGC), Chinedu Ezeribe (Warri Refining & Petrochemicals Company, WRPC); Inuwa Ibrahim Waya (Hydrocarbon Services Company Nigeria Ltd, HYSON) and Ladipo Fagbola (NNPC Retail).

Other new managing directors are Rowland Ewubare (Integrated Data Services Ltd, IDSL); Modupe Bammeke (NNPC Properties); and Abdulkadir Sa’idu, (Duke Oil.)

However, Mr. Sejebor Dafe Stephen who was the MD of NGC was redeployed to as new Group General Manager of NAPIMS.
Chidi Momah is now Group General Manager, Company Secretary & Legal Adviser of the NNPC.

Alegbe also confirmed the appointment by the president of four new Group Executive Directors (GEDs) of the corporation following the retirement last week of eight GEDs and subsequent trimming of the post from eight.

The GED appointments which were approved by Buhari include Dr. Maikanti Baru (Exploration & Production); Mr. Isiaka Abdulrazaq, (Finance & Services); Engr. Dennis Nnamdi Ajulu, (Refining & Technology); and Dr. Babatunde Victor Adeniran (Commercial & Investment.)

NNPC also retired 38 top management staff reducing the number from 122 to 83.

Also, 12 personnel were recruited from the private sector into the top management cadre to jump-start a new business outlook at the NNPC.
However, it was learnt that those that might have been spared in the gale of sack include the MD of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemicals Company Ltd (KRPC), Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) and the National Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO) which are all subsidiaries of the NNPC.
