President Buhari Currently Meeting Nigerian Governors Over Economic Crisis

President Muhammadu Buhari and governors of the 36 states of the federation are currently in a meeting at the Aso Villa in Abuja. One of the reasons the president is meeting with the governors is how a solution will be proferred in states where there is a backlog of unpaid salaries.

Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, has confirmed through his Twitter handle. “Decisive parley.

President Buhari meets governors of the 36 states this morning from 10 a.m. Bailout? We wait,” he tweeted.

Last Wednesday, after a meeting of all the governors in Abuja, Abdulaziz Yari,? Zamfara state governor and chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, dismissed the call by some of his colleagues for a bail-out from the federal government, noting that the financial crisis was a national issue. ?”As we suffer in the states, we observed that the federal government is suffering the same thing,” he said.

“For a bail-out, the government need to have liquidity some where. We cannot just ask the government for a bail-out. This sending a very wrong signal that states are in bad shape, but we all know that the economy of the country is in bad shape.

Meanwhile,  governors elected under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have met to fine tune their strategy for the meeting.

The meeting was held on Monday night in Abuja. The PDP governors during the meeting harmonized their positions over the prevailing cash crunch facing their states .

The governors also agreed to use the opportunity of the meeting with Buhari to formally complain about the relocation of some states election tribunals to Abuja instead of the states where the elections took place.

The PDP governors present at the meeting included Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Darius Isiaku (Taraba), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ayo Fayose (Ekiti), Idris Wada (Kogi), Nysome Wike (Rivers), Udo Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom) and Ben Ayade (Cross River).
