54 years After Independence, APC Introduces Imperialism For Hiring Obama’s Ex-consultant – PDP

pdp-apc
Following the appointment of a consultant by the All progressives Congress to boost the electoral chances of the party, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party today expressed shock.

The PDP through the National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, the announcement that it had engaged the services of a foreign firm, AKPD Message and Media has shown that it does not have faith in Nigeria, indigenous consultancy firms and the teeming well qualified, world acclaimed Nigerian professionals and technocrats.

The ruling party Wednesday called on Nigerians an attempt by the opposition party to throw the nation back to imperialism, 54 years after independence.

“Just as the leopard cannot change its spots so also is the APC unable to hide its true colour as an anti-people organisation, tied to the apron string of foreign interests in utter disdain for fellow Nigerians and the age long clamour for local content.”

Metuh said the latest action was not only an affront to nationalism but a weird embrace of neo-colonialism at a time national pride and assertiveness have assumed a rule of engagement in global politics.

He said, “We are afraid that neo-colonialism is the guiding ethos of the APC’s quest to rule Nigeria. It is now apparent that the leadership of this opposition party may have perfected plans to use same foreign interests to siphon national resources and reverse the pro-national socio-economic foundation laid by the founding fathers of Nigeria.”

Metuh added in the statement added that unlike the APC whose ideological thrust he said was to relegate Nigerians and their indigenous firms, he said that the PDP believes in Nigerians and will continue to work with them and to create the enabling environment for hardworking private individuals and indigenous firms to thrive in all fields of endeavor including media, manufacturing, trade, commerce and other critical sectors of the economy.

“This explains why companies like Intel Services, Globacom, AIT, Dangote, Oando, UBA and a host of other ingenious firms have continued to excel and compete favourably with their peers all over the world, a trend the APC wants to scuttle”, he added.

Metuh therefore urged Nigerians to continue to note the unpatriotic and anti-people actions of the APC and called on all well meaning Nigerians to rise up and resist the APC adding that “a party which has clearly shown that it has no regard for the talents of the people it seeks to govern can never win the trust of Nigerians.”

“Keep My Son Away From Hollywood” Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Will Reads

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s dying wish was to keep his children far, far away from Hollywood — this according to the actor’s will.

TMZ obtained a copy of PSH’s will drawn up in 2004 and according to the document, Hoffman requested that his son Cooper (back then his only child) be raised in Manhattan in order to be surrounded by the culture, arts, and architecture of the city.

If NYC turned out to be impossible, Hoffman asked for his son to be raised in Chicago or San Francisco. And if that didn’t work out either, Hoffman wanted his son to visit these cities at least TWICE per year … for cultural purposes, TMZ reports.

Seymour didn’t think it was a suitable city to raise a kid in Los Angeles because Hoffman was a big time Hollywood actor who spent lots of time in L.A.

Hoffman left the estate to his longtime partner and the mother of his 3 children, Mimi O’Donnell.

B’Haram Is Not A Religious Group – Borno Governor

NAN

The Borno Government on Wednesday said that the last Saturday’s attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Izge, Gwoza Local Government Area was not targetted at any religious group.

Gov. Kashim Shettima made this known during a sympathy visit to the Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Idrissa Timta, in Gwoza.

Shettima said that Nigerians should see the Boko Haram sect as a common enemy rather than a religious group going by its destruction.

“The report on alleged mass killing of Christians in Izge is untrue because Izge is a predominant Muslim community and most of the victims are Muslims.

“What is happening is not an ethnic or religious war. Boko Haram is a clear madness that must be condemned by all Nigerians,’’ he said.

He said the state government would rebuild structures destroyed by the sect despite the state’s meager resources.

“We will make genuine efforts to rebuild the structures destroyed, including places of worship despite our meager resources.

“What has happened to you is a disaster that affects the Borno people, we pray that God will grant the fortitude to those who lost their lives.’’

He said that the government would pay one million naira compensation on a place of worship destroyed during the attack and N200,000 for each family that lost their loves one.

Earlier, Timta commended Shettima for the visit.

“It is a known fact that we suffer problem of Boko Haram attack in our communities on daily basis here.

“We appreciate government’s efforts in assisting the victims, especially the personal efforts of the state governor.

“Gwoza is one of the worst hit areas by the Boko Haram attacks.

“Few months back, they attempted to attack my palace, but it was impossible, so they vent their anger on my farm destroying everything, including the plantations.

“Every day, we live in fears of fresh attacks as individuals get killed now and then. We pray that God will help bring the attacks to an end,’’ Timta said.

He appealed to the Federal Government to explore new security avenues in tackling the Boko Haram attacks.

Electric Castle: A Poem By Ghana’s J. Y. Frimpong [READ]

My bride is in the mortuary!
Her love was pure.
She wants me back but I don’t
She is dead and gone.
Leave me alone oh you ghost.
Leave my heart alone, yours has stopped.

If really you loved me,
Then don’t leave me in this electric castle.
If you want to take my heart away,
Then please stop and let me run away.
But then even if I had the chance, I can’t
Because I am in an electric castle.

As long as the blood covenant
Still remains unbroken,
My heart still remains hers
But she is in the grave.
How can I love a dead body
When I am only twenty one?

If really you cherish me as you claim you do
Please die alone in peace in this electric castle
Please don’t take me with you
Please leave me and let me stay
Please don’t take me also to that road
Let me give birth and name her after you.
Leave me oh dear
There is still more life ahead of me
Don’t cut my body with that ax
I know I cheated you on while you were alive
Forgive me oh dear
I admit I am a stupid fool

Please, the ghost in this electric castle
Are hunting me with spears and blood
Closer they are at piercing my heart
With that poisonous sword from the grave
Please don’t leave me in this electric castle
Please don’t steal my heart away

I see an altar on that platform
Can I go and pray for my friends and sins there?
Lo, but I hear that the Priest in there
Is one of your kind
Can’t I even ask for forgiveness
When I am about to die?

As long as I am in this electric castle
Then I don’t think I am going get any better.
Isn’t that bloody Mary that I see there?
Is she going to kill me like what she did to her family?
Oh such a misery that exists
In this electric castle

4 Airlines Sanctioned Over Abuse of Passengers’ Rights – NCAA

NAN

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said on Wednesday that four airlines operating in the country were sanctioned last year, over alleged abuse of passengers’ rights.

The Director-General of NCAA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, stated this in an interview in Ikeja.

Akinkuotu said that the authority sanctioned the airlines over alleged “unfair deals” with their passengers.

He said that the affected airlines were British Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Aero Contractors and an unnamed airline.

“On the passengers’ bill of rights, once we receive complaints, we address them and we have had to write to some of the airlines on several occasions.

“I urge airline passengers to always fill the complaints form, because the authority has staff actually in all airports in the country.

“There are four airlines that have been sanctioned recently over unfair deals with their passengers. A lot of the airlines we have written to or sanctioned and some of them have had to pay compensation.

“I remember last year that we had issue with the British Airways for overbooking and we got compensation for the passengers.

“There was a passenger who was overcharged by the Ethiopian Airlines for a flight that was to have an oxygen backup and we got some compensation for the person.

“An Aero Contractor aircraft was sanctioned by us recently and they did pay compensation to the passengers.

“The passengers’ bill of Rights is to protect all stakeholders,” Akinkuotu said.

The NCAA DG also said that four airlines had applied for Airline Operation Certificate (AOC), to operate in the country in 2014.

He explained that the certificate requires operators to have personnel, assets and systems in place, to ensure the safety of their employees and the general public.

“As we speak, l believe there are four airlines now processing their Airline Operation Certification.

“The processing of AOC certification is in five steps, starting with a letter from the airline showing its intention and it ends with the demonstration flight and the signing off,” he said.

Akinkuotu said that the agency’s focus was to get a fair deal for airline passengers, in other to be able to retain them for continuous patronage.

8 Persons Convicted For Human Trafficking In Uyo

NAN

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Other Related Matters says it convicted eight persons for human trafficking offences in its Uyo zone in 2013.

The Zonal Commander in charge of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers states, Mr Ikechi Nwachukwu, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Uyo on Wednesday.

He said the agency would ensure that human trafficking was brought to the barest minimum in the zone, adding that the agency would embark on a sensitisation campaign in the four states as part of strategy to curb the menace.

“We have been able to secure eight convictions last year. It is a ground-breaking record because before now we were not able to achieve such feat.

“We have the mandate to win the fight against human trafficking in the zone as part of our focus this year. Many other cases are still ongoing which we are prosecuting,” he said.

Nwachukwu lamented that trafficking in humans was successful because people did not know the tricks and tactics of traffickers.

He pledged the commitment of the agency to expose the tactics and strategies of traffickers.

“Sensitisation and education of the people will be our focus in collaboration with other security agencies to curb this menace in the country,” he said.

ECOWAS To Sign Abidjan/Lagos Highway Treaty

The signing of a treaty for the Abidjan-Lagos corridor highway project is to be top on the agenda of the Summit of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, an official said.

Mr Sunny Ugoh, Assistant Director of Communication, ECOWAS, made the fact known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.

Ugoh said that the summit scheduled for March in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, would also feature the signing of joint member states request for African Development Bank (AfDB) funding.

“The funding will cover certain aspects of the six-lane highway project expected to carry about 75 per cent of goods transported within the region,’’ Ugoh said.

Ugoh said that member states’ seed funds contribution formula for the project would also be determined during the summit.

He said that these items were drawn from the decisions reached during the briefing of presidents by the steering chairman of the project, Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen.

The briefing took place at the just concluded African Union summit in Addis Ababa.

Ugoh said that Onolememen and the Minister of Economic Infrastructure of Cote d’Ivoire would attend the summit.

Others are ministers of Public Works and Transport of Benin Republic, Public Works of Togo and Roads and Highway of Ghana.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that five ECOWAS member states involved in the Abidjan-Lagos road corridor project agreed to contribute 50 million Dollars (about N8.2 billion) for the speedy construction of the project.

2015 Presidency: This Is Not The Time To Talk About Endorsing A Candidate – Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President, Chief  Olusegun Obasanjo wrapped up his two-day working visit to Rivers State, yesterday. He insisted he is still a card-carrying member of People’s Democratic Party, PDP and it was too early for him to anoint any candidate for the 2015 presidential election.
Speaking at the Port Harcourt International Airport after a tour and commissioning of projects in Rivers State, Chief Obasanjo said:

“I am a card carrying member of PDP. How else do you speak English?”

When asked if he would endorse any candidate for the 2015 Presidential Election, his response was:

“That is not a question for now.”

Obasanjo also spoke about the Mono-rail project under construction in glowing terms as he commended Governor Rotimi Amaechi for the initiative:

“Anything that you are doing and there is no opposition, you should take a second look at it. The Ivory tower, which is a land mark monument for the French, when it was being built, some people said the man who built it should be killed. All good things must have some opposition.
That is what I told the governor on Monday, that to thyself and to thy people be true. Do not mind what the opposition says because too many people may not know what it takes and how it takes, but when they come to know, they will say well done.
“I must confess my ignorance.I did not know there was something of that magnitude, but when I saw it, I knew that the only state that can do that now with the deficit of power that we have now is Rivers State because the state generates over 700 mega watts and it can dedicate 20 mega watts to that mono rail.
There is no other state that can do that. So, that is my assessment.”

Thousands Of Edo Civil Servants To Lose Jobs Over Age Falsification And False Qualifications

Following the outcome of a verification exercise by the Information Communication Technology, ICT, Department in the  Edo State Governor’s office, at least 3,000 workers in the State’s public service may soon be jobless.

Those found wanting include those with discrepancies in their ages and educational qualifications. Others have overstayed in office, are mentally unstable and some are even physically blind. The list of those to be disengaged has not been made public as the decision now rests in Governor Adams Oshiomole’s official approval.

You will recall that over 962 primary school teachers were sacked by the state government as a result of falsification of age and certificate forgery.

The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Louis Odion, has reacted to the expected sack of some workers said it was just a routine exercise in the civil service to ascertain the actual number of the state government employees and was in no way discriminatory about it
The Edo State Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Mr. Emmanuel Ademokun has also spoken about the list of those to be relieved off their duties

“It is not sack. I see it as a working document of the government because we are used to verification of credentials and others for those of us in the core civil service. I just feel the government is carrying out the process to know those who have their primary school certificates.”

Solving Witch-Craft? Native Doctor’s Charm Leaves Two Relatives Including A Pastor Dead

Two lives have been lost in Zwall village, Toro Local Government area, Bauchi state after a deal with the unfortunate family and a native doctor. Adamu Goni’s family and the native doctor had agreed to use charms on four members of the family, a pastor included over their involvement in the practice of witchcraft. This was a decision reached after the ill fate which had befallen members of the family.

The charm the native doctor used on the family members was meant to make the patients confess if they were involved in the sad events occurring in the family or not.

Off the four that the charm was used on, two were adversely affected and later died but did not confess to being involved in the ill-fate which was coming upon the family.

A security source in Bauchi revealed that the charm led to the death of the duo

“Two members of the family including a pastor of an ECWA Church who refused to admit to witchcraft involvement died after the native doctor administered the charm on them.
“Eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are helping the police with valuable information.
“The native doctor was also arrested by a police detective who disguised as someone needing spiritual help.”

These details were revealed  inside the shrine of the native doctor and he was almost lynched by angry youths over this revelation
