Neymar’s Transfer Saga Is Embarrassing – Barca President, Josep Maria Bartomeu

Barcelona’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu has conceded that the entire saga about the Neymar’s transfer has been embarrassing as he insisted the Spanish giants did nothing wrong.

Barcelona was accused of tax fraud over Neymar’s transfer by Spanish authorities. In February, Barca was accused of evading £7.58m in taxes after purchasing the Brazilian forward from Santos in June 2013.

Penultimate week, a judge decided investigation about the saga should continue. Barcelona went ahead to make a “voluntary contribution” of more than £11m in taxes. That payment however seems not to be the end of the criminal investigation.

“It’s embarrassing because we think we are right,”

“We think we did things properly, that everything was done in the correct and best way,” Bartomeu said

He revealed that his club is sad about the situation and vowed that the management will defend the club:

“Barcelona acted in the proper way but if somebody thinks that there is damage to the name of Barcelona then there is damage to be repaired.”

“We are not happy with the situation but we will defend our club very strongly.”

He revealed that the club does not agree with the judge and promised that the image of the club will be preserved

“We paid because of prudence, because there is a possible different interpretation. So we want to be prudent. We don’t want to take any risks.

“Barca is a very well known brand name in the world and we have to take care of Barca of the club and doing this is prudent situation to keep the good image of our club.

“We don’t agree with the judge, of course. For us, this is an absurd and unfair situation because we did everything correctly in signing Neymar to FC Barcelona.”

President Jonathan Promises To Resolve Ongoing Polytechnics’ Strike

Speaking at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Abuja on Sunday President Goodluck Jonathan said he inherited the problems in the nation’s education sector and should not be held responsible for them.

Jonathan was declaring open the first plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria’s 2014 meeting themed: “Church and State Partnership in Providing Quality Education for Nigerian People”.

He however promised to resolve the ongoing strike which has halted academic activities in Nigeria’s polytechnics for months.

“There are many challenges such as the rising expectations of teachers, resulting in industrial actions. Of course, you know, we just dealt with the university teachers strike, and now we are left with polytechnic teacher’s.

“The government has also shown sincerity of purpose to resolve such differences that may arise from some inherited problems not caused by this administration.

“Our commitment is to continue to raise standard and ensure quality. We will continue to encourage private sector investment in the education sector,” the President said.

‘Super Eagles World Cup Jersey Is In Order’, Former NFF Boss, Kojo Williams Reacts To Gaiya’s Criticism

The Chairman of Nigeria’s House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Godfrey Gaiya recently unveiled the new Super Eagles jersey unveiled recently. Gaiya condemned the lemon-green feel of the jersey which is a deviation from the dark green on the Nigerian flag.

Former Nigerian football Association Chairman, Kojo Williams has condemned Gaiya’s criticisms as he believes it is right for Nigeria to move with the trend of attractive jerseys. Williams yesterday disagreed with Gaiya’s stance:

“I totally disagree with Gaiya who condemned the jersey because the green was not exactly as deep as the one in our flag,”

“We should move with time. These days you light up things to make them beautiful. If the colour is strikingly beautiful and has semblance of our colour then it is in order. If Gaiya has issues with the quality of the jersey I’ll stand with him but not on the reasons that he announced”.

Obesere Inserted A Ring Into My Vagina After Raping Me – Olanike Olaiya

The recent reports that Fuji artiste, Alhaji Abass Akande popularly known as Obesere raped a 29 years old businesswoman, Olanike Olaiya is gathering more storm as she has now revealed that Obesere inserted a ring into her vagina and she believes it is for a ritualistic purpose. She also revealed she has been bleeding and been suffering pains as a result of that.

According to the graduate of Ibadan Polytechnic, the bleeding, pains and fear of the ring he allegedly inserted into her vagina after raping her was the major reason she reported to the police. She revealed to Vanguard Newspaper that she was not pleased with the manner the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos had handled the case. She claims the Investigating Police Officer, Jacob is trying to favour Obesere in the case

Olanike also told Vanguard that she is not Obesere’s lover as the musician claimed but was raped by the Fuji artiste

“I knew him barely two weeks ago and we were talking business. But he raped me on our first meeting in his house.
“Like I told you earlier, I met him through a friend who is much older than me — she is over 49 year old— and she told me that Obesere helped her in her business and he could do same for me.
“She was the one who arranged the meeting at Obesere’s house, but Obesere made me wait for at least five hours until it became late for me to go after the meeting.
“Even when I insisted, he refused to let me go claiming his area was not safe and that everybody knew I was in his house.
“I slept over, but not in his room. He raped me and inserted a ring in my private part. I wouldn’t have gone to the Police if it was just the rape because it was my fault. As an adult, I should have known the danger of passing the night in a stranger’s house.

“I went to the police because I was bleeding and when I informed him about it, he didn’t take me seriously. He asked me to go to a private hospital in Ejigbo. But when I got there, the doctor did not even touch or examine me in any way.

“He just asked that I go for a scan, which is not done in that hospital. I left the hospital in pain and I reported the matter to the police.

“I wanted the police to be aware of what happened and prosecute him for forcefully having sex with me against my wish.

“I also have to clarify the issue of wanting to blackmail him. From the beginning, I rejected all the money he offered me as settlement.

“You can ask the DPO at Isolo. He is aware that I rejected all the money he offered me. All I wanted was for him to be prosecuted for taking advantage of me because I slept in his house.

“Also, I wanted him to explain to the Police why he inserted a ring into my private part that made bleed for two weeks and possibly reverse any ritual step he may have taken.

“As I speak with you, I am still going through pains. After the bleeding stopped, I have continued to have problems with my reproductive organs. That was why I went to the police, I wanted them to investigate and prosecute him.

“But what I am getting from the IPO is terrible. He is trying to destroy the case and set Obesere free at the expense of my life and dignity.
“He discarded the medical report from the General Hospital and he upheld that of Obesere’s private hospital, saying their report was the correct one. As I speak with you I am not feeling well at all.”

Dangote Set To Fulfill $1million Pledge To Victorious AFCON 2013 Super Eagles

Following a recent public appeal by Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, the Super Eagles players are now to receive $1m promised them by Africa’s wealthiest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote when they won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Enyeama has earlier said, “It was just a reminder to patriots who are very busy and may not have been prompted after they made their pledges.

“The players are determined to bring more honours to fatherland at the forthcoming World Cup.”

While speaking to BBC Sport, Alhaji Dangote said he had been waiting to be approached about the pledge but no one did.

“We’ve been waiting for Nigerian officials to collect the money but nobody has written to us.

“We will write to them, asking for the account numbers of the players, then we’ll make the transfer immediately.”

Dangote added that “the money was promised through the presidency [during a state dinner last February]”

According to Forbes latest ranking, Alhaji Aliko Dangote is worth $25bn.

Idang Alibi: Boko Haram, May Be Governor Kashim Spoke For The Army

Anyone who is a small expert in reading body language and who listened to Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima speak about the Boko Haram terrorist group being better armed and better motivated than the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would be able to read two things. One, the Borno Governor is extremely frustrated by the ease with which the terror group has, in recent times, been harassing him and the people of Borno in particular and those of Yobe and other states of the far North East of the country in general. And which person who finds himself in the situation Kashim has found himself will not be compelled to speak out his mind according to his understanding of the situation?
All fair minded Nigerians must sympathise with Governor Kashim. A few months after he was sworn-in as governor, Kashim unveiled his developmental roadmap to some journalists and other critical stakeholders and sued for everyone’s co-operation. Those who listened to him at that event in the Sheraton Hotel Abuja were unanimous that going by the agenda he had set himself and the way he articulated it which showed that he had thoroughly thought things through, he was going to emerge as one of the star performers among the chief executives of the current dispensation. But see the way things have turned for Governor Kashim, no thanks to the invidious activities of the Boko Haram sect
Every plan, every project he has conceived and executed and every of his day-to-day administrative work is now heavily overshadowed by the mayhem which Boko Haram unleashes on his people. Here is a man who came fully prepared to be a chief executive who will orchestrate the development of the state. But rather than being at the helm superintending developmental efforts, Kashim has become the number one chief mourner of Borno State. Today, the terror group will strike in one village and unleash their usual mayhem and Kashim is called upon to go and offer words of consolation to the victims and part with money meant for development as donation to ameliorate the hardship of those affected.
It is extremely sad to read for instance that because of insurgency in Borno, several hectares of wheat and other agricultural products cannot be harvested. The economy of Borno State and of that entire region has been severely affected by the campaign of terror of the Boko Haram. No reasonable governor who cares for the well being of his people can be happy with that state of affair.
The second meaning you can read into the statement Governor Kashim made is that as an astute politician and one who is on the ground and who is feeling the pinch more, he was speaking for the soldiers deployed to contain the insurgents. He must have wondered to the soldiers their seeming helplessness in the face of the Boko Haram onslaught. I suspect that the soldiers must have in response confided in him that given the shape, form and state of their weaponry and the morale of the soldiers, they can in no way be any match to the terrorists who, from the results they are garnering, are obviously better quipped and certainly more motivated than the army.
That same expert in body language reading and who also listened to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s remarks on Governor Kashim’s remarks during his Presidential Media Chat two Mondays ago, will also have noticed that the President did not find Kashim’e remarks funny at all. He described it as unguarded.
I am sure what has rankled the President so much is the fact that he feels he is being blamed for not equipping the army to fight a rag tag army that has proved so ferocious and more successful than the regular army. The President also senses that he is being subtly indicted for not showing greater commitment to the war efforts which could have boosted the morale of his fighting men in the North East.
I agree with the President that fighting a terror group is not the easiest of fights even for the most sophisticated of armies of the world. But the situation in Borno and Yobe is simply too embarrassing to everybody in the country. As a Nigerian I am embarrassed at the apparent helplessness of the soldiers in the face of the merciless slaughter and utter impunity of the Boko Haram. The performance of the army against Boko Haram does not give me any confidence that I can be defended against a foreign invasion. If an untrained and ill equipped army like BH can strike at will at any target whether soft or hard and do as they wish what will a well trained, well commanded foreign force not do to Nigeria?
The situation is no less embarrassing to the army whose pain is worsened by the fact that they cannot openly complain about the equipment to fight lest their complaint is seen as an act of mutiny. Our soldiers have been made to look so ordinary, so incompetent and so ineffectual. It looks like we have an army that is blind, deaf and crippled. They cannot see; they cannot hear; they cannot move and they cannot respond to any potential threat. To us laymen it looks like they do not have any aircraft to gather aerial intelligence about the movement of the BH fighters nor do they have human intelligence agents to gather intelligence and feed the ground troops in order to even halt the advance of the enemy nor is there any form of mobilization of the civilians to tip off the soldiers when the enemy visits them.
The way Boko Haram fighters invade a community, lay siege on it for five, six or seven hours, proceed to kill, loot and maim and then leave when they have had their feel of the bestiality cannot be rationally explained. It is true that our army have done well by dealing with the terrorist uprising and now restricting them to a small part of the country. But it is no comfort that having restricted them to a particular section we betray a lack of the firepower, the intelligence and the strategy to embark on the final onslaught that will extirpate this great evil and danger. They seem to have all the time in the world to do what they want, the way they want it without any fear of any slight challenge from the regular army. This is simply frightening and utterly unacceptable.
It is very possible the soldiers in the Borno axis quietly applauded the courage of Kashim in speaking for them. Given the way we do things in our country, neither the commanders of the forces in Borno nor their chiefs in the headquarters in Abuja would speak the truth to the President. No soldier wants to lose either his command or his commission.
As a patriot and especially one who regards Borno as a second home (I did my NYSC there 32 years ago), I feel that the situation in Borno and Yobe does not call for trading accusations or engaging in fruitless blame game. Some questions cannot be answered but they must be decided. The time has come to decide the situation. Having literally pushed these people to the wall, a game plan should be evolved that will put an end to the menace of the terrorists.

Nigeria’s Foreign Reserves Decline To $39.72 Billion

Channels Television is reporting that Nigeria’s Foreign reserve have declined by 3 billion dollars to 39.72 billion dollars in the last 30days.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, shows that the reserves, which were 42.77 billion dollars on February 3, dropped to 39.72 billion dollars on March 3.

The report says, this is the lowest level since November 2012.

Analysts attribute the depletion of the reserves to the continuous use of the external buffers to support the value of the Naira.

They also say a large part of the reserves were utilized in the importation of oil, industrial, and manufactured products.

Data from the CBN website showed that as at October 10, the reserves were at $45.3 billion, as against $46 billion in September 19, and $47 billion in August 19.

Further findings showed that the reserves were at $47.7 billion on July 1, and dropped to $47 billion on July 15. They also entered August 1 at $47 billion.

The foreign currency reserves had five year ago, in August 2008, peaked at $68 billion before the global financial crises impacted negatively on it.

10 Signs You’re In The Wrong Relationship

by Brittany Wong

Let’s face it: When we’re newly coupled up, we tend to look at our partner — and the budding relationship itself — through a pair of proverbial rose-colored glasses.

Any flaws we detect in our partner are all too easily written off: He shies away from introducing you to his immediate family? It will happen when it happens. She has a tendency to leave dirty dishes and shoes scattered around the house? You’re neat and orderly enough for the both of you.

But once you get real about your relationship and consider it for all that it is — and all that it isn’t — there are some issues that are just too serious to overlook. Below, dating and marriage experts weigh in with 10 red flags they say should be cause for concern in any relationship.

1. You feel the need to change who you are to make your partner happy.

We all change a bit when we’re exposed to a new partner and their individual tastes — you binge-watch an entire season of “House of Cards” because your boyfriend loves it or attempt to go vegetarian for a few months because your girlfriend has been one for years (keyword: attempt). It only becomes a real issue when you feel the need to change who you are at your core to satisfy your partner, says licensed marriage and family therapist Virginia Gilbert.

“It’s a definite problem when you find yourself molding your values, opinions and even your clothing style to suit your partner,” Gilbert says. “If you edit what you say before you say it and constantly monitor how you come across because you feel like your partner is grading you, it might be time to let the relationship go.”

2. You have to defend your significant other to family and friends.

Not everyone is going to like your boyfriend or girlfriend as much as you do. But it should worry you if there’s a general consensus among family and friends that your new love is entirely wrong for you, says M. Gary Neuman, a licensed psychotherapist and author of The Truth About Cheating: Why Men Stray and What You Can Do to Prevent It.

“When all your friends and family are uncomfortable with the relationship, it’s time to take a good look at it,” he recommends. “If you find yourself isolated from loved ones and telling yourself they just don’t know your significant other the way you do, chances are this won’t end well.”

3. Nitpicking and criticism — even if said in jest — are constants in the relationship.

He finds your hourly texts really overbearing — and tells you so repeatedly. She jokingly compares her Ivy League education to the one you received at a state school, but always in a dismissive tone. If your partner’s overly critical eye is starting to affect your self-esteem, it’s time to speak up or jump ship, says relationship expert Tina Swithin.

“The criticism can even be subtle comparison put-downs, which can be delivered in a casual, passive aggressive way,” she says. “Those still can chip away at your confidence, and in the end, healthy relationships should lift you up, not bring you down.”

4. You’re always wondering what your partner is up to when you’re not around.

What Elvis sang about suspicious minds is true: You and your S.O. can’t go on together as long as you have doubts about what he or she is up to when you’re not there.

Dating coach Marina Sbrochi agrees, offering up an example to illustrate the point: “Maybe your new girlfriend keeps her phone on silent. All the time. Add that to the fact that she can only go out a couple of times a week and she prefers to text,” she says. “Knock, knock! You aren’t an investigative reporter, but you know when something smells fishy. If two plus two doesn’t add up to four, it’s time to part ways and look for a relationship that doesn’t seem like a game of Clue.”

5. Your partner makes all of the big relationship decisions.

You only get together when it’s convenient for your boyfriend and only hang out with his family and friends. You’ve been to all of your girlfriend’s work functions and friends’ parties, but have stopped inviting her to any social gathering you attend — she’s made it crystal clear she’s not interested.

Sound familiar? If your partner is calling all the shots and “you’re just following their lead, desperate for a few crumbs,” it might be time to reevaluate the relationship, Gilbert warns.

6. Your sex life is seriously lacking.

A relationship shouldn’t be all about the sex, but it needs to be somewhat about the sex, according to Sbrochi.

“If you feel like this person has all the other qualities you desire in a mate, see a sex therapist. Try some new tricks and see if you can make manufacture some chemistry,” she suggests. “Trust me, you need a sexual connection for a long-lasting relationship. You have plenty of friends, you don’t need another friend. It’s time to look for love and sex in one package.”

7. You want more “me” time — but your partner wants more “we” time.

You’re dying for some time to yourself. Meanwhile, your boyfriend is complaining about how little you see of each other. “In other words, the frequency of connecting is either too high or too low, whether it be texting, calling, or seeing each other in person,” marriage and family therapist Jane Greer explains. It’s a problem if “an amount that is mutually comfortable for both of you is never found.”

8. You feel personally responsible for your partner’s happiness.

Heed your inner red flags as soon as you start to feel like your partner relies on you — and only you — to keep them emotionally balanced, Gilbert says.

“Whether your partner is in a pit of despair or erupting in anger, he or she makes you feel that you are somehow to blame, and it’s your job to change whatever it is that you have done or said to make them feel bad,” she says. “Whatever you do or say to remedy the situation is inevitably wrong and makes your partner feel worse, which is, of course, your fault. You are always on eggshells and you feel the walls closing in on you. This kind of relationship is poison; get out ASAP.”

9. Your partner controls who you see and what you do.

This might be the biggest red flag of all, Swithin says. “If you find that your partner is controlling your time with friends or family, your finances, clothing choices or how much makeup you wear, this is something to take very seriously.”

10. You find yourself wondering if you’re in the wrong relationship.

It may sound painfully obvious, but your tendency to quiet those relationship doubts may end up being a huge regret later on, says Sbrochi. “So many times we look back on a bad relationship and only in hindsight can we really see the signs for what they really were,” she says. “But if you really think about it, you knew the whole time, you just wanted to ignore it for whatever reason. ”

Instead, be more proactive about your relationship concerns and address them with your partner — or move on before you get hurt. “Make a mental note of whatever is bothering you,” Sbrochi says. “If it happens again or you feel your inner warning lights going off (even if they are going off softly), it’s time to take a step back.”

2nd Niger Bridge Represents A Strategic National Infrastructure – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan Monday commissioned the much awaited 2nd Niger Bridge connecting the South-Eastern States and the other parts of Nigeria as part of one of the promises he made the region during the Presidential Elections.

The President said the Bridge represents a strategic national infrastructure, with great socio-economic prospects for the contiguous States, and indeed, for the entire Nation.

“It is an important economic artery that will connect the great markets of Onitsha and Aba, as well as the industrial hub of Nnewi and beyond, to both the Northern and Southern parts of our country.”

He noted that the the Government is executing this project under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement for a concession period of 25 years, precisely, through a ‘Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT)’ model.

“We are confident in the capacity and competence of the Concessionaire, Messrs Julius Berger-NSIA Consortium, to deliver on this project, at the construction cost of about N117 Billion Naira.”

He further noted that to facilitate timely delivery, the Federal Government has made a commitment to contribute 25% of the construction cost, in the sum of N30 Billion.
