Boko Haram Take Over The Home Of Nigeria’s Army Chief, Alex Badeh In A Deadly Attack

Reports from Adamawa state that some suspected Boko Haram into town Vimtim . The terrorists entered the home of Nigerian army chief of staff , Air Marshal Alex Badeh on Thursday .

Former Local Government Mubi North , John Three Vimtim confirmed to the BBC .

He added that entered the city of Vimtim, the insurgents attacked the house of Nigeria’s high ranking Nigerian military directly  and took over possession of the place.

But no one was killed as residents fled after hearing the that the terrorists had taken over Mubi town on Wednesday . The Adamawa communities have been deserted as survivors are now taking shelter in the bush.

Meanwhile, reports say after the take over of Mubi, the insurgents are headed towards Yola, the capital city of Adamawa State for a final show down.

Reports say the insurgents are already closing up to Fufore, a town in Adamawa, not very far from Yola. The distance between Fufore and Yola is 51Km, which is approximately 45- 50 minutes drive.

Fear has gripped residents in Yola as they witnessed the influx of family relatives and some Nigerian soldiers who have fled from Mubi.  Military officers are already deserting their posts in Yola, same way they did during the Mubi attacks.

Malala Yousafzai Bags Another Prize As She Splashes The Cash For The Rebuilding Of Gaza Schools

Pakistani education campaigner and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai has donated $50,000 for the rebuilding of schools in Gaza. While speaking in Marienfred, Sweden on Wednesday after receiving the World Children’s Prize for the rights of the child, she said the money which will be sent across through the  United Nations relief agency UNRWA will help in the rebuilding of 65 schools in the Palestinian territory of Gaza.

Though she currently resides in the UK, Malala funds small-scale organisations in her native Palestine and other countries. She believes that the money will help the children gain quality education and will act as a reminder to them that they are not alone.

“The needs are overwhelming – more than half of Gaza’s population is under 18 years of age. They want and deserve quality education, hope and real opportunities to build a future.

“This funding will help rebuild the 65 schools damaged during the recent conflict. Innocent Palestinian children have suffered terribly and for too long”, she said

Malala, who now lives in the UK and has her own fund to help small-scale organisations in a number of countries, including Pakistan, told journalists that children in Gaza had suffered from conflicts and war. The money would help children get “quality education” and continue their life, knowing they were not alone and that people were supporting them, she said.

The organizers of the Children’s prize said she won the award because millions of children across the world had voted her. Malala now becomes the first person ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize and children’s prize in one year.

Indang Alibi: Okonjo-Iweala And Health Of The Nigerian Economy

For the better part of this year, the price of crude oil, the commodity that provides Nigeria the bulk of her foreign exchange earnings, has been falling in alarming manner. Today, over 20 per cent of the revenue Nigeria used to earn in the good old days of steady oil prices on the international market only a few months back, has reportedly been lost. Expectedly and quite rightly, this has made many Nigerians jittery. But Nigeria is not the only victim of the jitters about falling oil prices. It is an economic epidemic, so to say, that has befallen all oil producing nations the world over. There is however a greater anxiety here because we operate a near mono-cultural economy. And when that main revenue earner is threatened, we have every cause for some concern.
This fear and anxiety are reflected in some alarmist and sensational headlines in newspaper and magazine articles written by some of our concerned commentators. We often come across articles with titles such as: ‘’Is Nigeria broke?’’ ‘’How healthy is the Nigerian Economy?’’, ‘’Development in the International Oil Market: Cause for alarm for Nigeria’’. Others have also asked: Is the government cognizant of this frightening global development? If so, what steps have been taken to avert any impending further deterioration in the revenue profile of the nation?
It is against this background of national apprehension that many concerned patriots eagerly sought to listen to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who on Tuesday, 21st October, at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Abuja, mounted the Ministerial Platform to give account of the activities of, and the progress recorded by, the Ministry of Finance in the past one year.
After her eloquent and graphic presentation, the question inevitably popped up and was addressed to none other than Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala: Is Nigeria broke or is there no cause for serious alarm? Nigerians were eager to hear from the horse’s mouth. No, Nigeria is not broke, she answered simply and added on a humorous note that from the frequency of that poser, it was if some Nigerians secretly desire that their country should be broke! The Finance minister proceeded to assure Nigerians that the country will not be caught napping as government was keenly watching development in the oil market and that a contingency plan was being developed to contain the situation as it develops.
She admitted that Nigerians’ anxiety was quite understandable but that government was not in any way laid back about the situation. She said the situation would call for some belt tightening quite alright and that government expenditure might be cut but that we will weather the storm and move on. As someone who has become jittery and have told members of my household to prepare for the coming economic storm, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala’s re-assuring words have indeed done me a great good. It has calmed me down a bit.
In terms of real policies, projects and plan to meaningfully address the volatile oil market, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala told the nation that the ministry’s able macro-economic management and government’s efforts towards diversifying the economy by steering it away from dependence on crude oil, have yielded some remarkable dividends. She pointed out that non-oil revenue is increasing. As to be expected of a minister of finance, she gave plenty facts and figures to buttress her assertion that all was well with the Nigerian economy. But as she herself said at some point, it is not about the money and it is not about the numbers but it is essentially about making a real difference in the lives of people.
On this score, she was particularly proud of what the newly formed Nigerian Mortgage Re-financing Company has done by the number of mortgages it has created for thousands of Nigerians. She said the Federal Government’s 10,000 houses for public servants has attracted over 60, 000 Nigerians in both the public and private sector who desire to own their own homes. Although only 10, 000 were targeted, all the over 60,000 compatriots who have applied will be considered.
Other steps which Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala said the government is doing right which will mitigate the effects of the falling oil prices and keep Nigeria out of recession include tight fiscal management which she said has kept this year’s  fiscal deficit not as large as of other years. She said there is great prudence in the management of our national debt. The government has kept domestic borrowing down and borrowed more from external sources, especially from multi-lateral organisations with long tenor and generous repayment terms. Contrary to the fears of many Nigerians that the government was borrowing too much, a development that could take Nigeria back to the debt noose, the finance minister said the uniqueness of this government’s borrowing is that it is targeted at developing the nation’s infrastructure to enhance the growth of the economy.  She gave the figure of the nation’s debt-to-GDP as about 12 per cent which she said is within acceptable
limits.
To further douse the tendency among Nigerians to portray their situation as worse than it really is, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala said that our foreign reserves and the money in the Excess Crude Account are enough to sustain over nine months of imports. From Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s body language the message was clearly that Nigerians should not worry unduly. I agree with her and wish to add that even if the situation is dire (which she said is not), we need to re-assure ourselves that all is well. Doing so is both spiritual and rational. We will call evil upon our country by exaggerating our fears. Agonizing unnecessarily at this point will do us more harm than good. As the late activist Taju Abdulraheem would say, we do not need to agonise but to organise. The time has come for us to do more to diversify our economy and make it less dependent on oil. We have said this for so long that it has become a cliché. The rude shock from the oil market should be a wake-up
call on us all.
There is growing confidence of investors both domestic and foreign in the Nigerian economy. We ourselves should therefore not say or do anything that would cast doubt about our ability to steer the economy towards the safe and sound direction. The granting of full membership status to the Nigerian Stock Exchange by the World Exchanges Federation is a vote of confidence on the Nigerian economy. With a self-confident person like Okonjo-Iweala at the helm of our economic management team, the goodwill of the international community and with our prayers, one hopes that Nigeria is safe.

Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke’s Kidnapped Sister Regains Freedom, Police Say

Rivers state Police Command has confirmed that Osiya Agama, sister of the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, who was kidnapped nine days ago, finally regained her freedom from her abductors on Wednesday evening.

In a statement by Rivers state Police Command Spokesman, Ahmad Muhammad, he said the rescue was due to the combined efforts of the Police, Army and Department of State Security.

Though the amount paid for her freedom was not made public, but Agama was kidnapped by armed men while on her way home from a church service in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

Also corroborating the release of the highly priced woman because of her relationship with Diezeni-Allison Madueke, the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), also in a press statement issued in Port Harcourt, said its members in the Eastern Zone helped with information that facilitated the rescue operation.

The IYC also charged government at all levels to make job creation a priority to reduce criminal activities across the country.

The statement, signed by the spokesman of the IYC, Eric Omare, also revealed that Madam Agama was released in Asari-Toru council area of Rivers State in the late hours of Wednesday, following the combined efforts of security agents and members of the IYC, Eastern zone.

The statement said current and incoming governments would be able to sufficiently curb all forms of crimes, especially kidnapping, if they make job creation and other forms of positive engagements a priority.

Nigerian Police Confirms Withdrawal Of Security Personnel Attached To Speaker Aminu Tambuwal

Police Inspector General has ordered the withdrawal of security personnel attached to Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal following his defection from the ruling People’s Democratic Party, a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. CP Emmanuel C. S Ojukwu reads.

Ag. CP Emmanuel C. S Ojukwu said the IGP took the decision in view of the recent defection by the Right Honourable Aminu Waziri Tanbuwal, CFR, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, from the People Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC), and having regard to the clear provision of Section 68 (1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has redeployed its personnel attached to his office.

Recall that Tambuwal formally announced his switch from the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to the main opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.

“Early this morning, few minutes after midnight to be precise, top level security report informed the Speaker that orders have been given for the withdrawal of his security details.”

The withdrawal of his security details may not be unconnected with his defection from the PDP which didn’t go down well with the party and the presidency.

Shortly after he defected, the PDP called on Tambuwal to resign his position as Speaker having left the party that brought him to the House of Representatives in 2011.

Tambuwal received a rousing welcome on Wednesday, a day after his formal defection at the extraordinary mini national convention of the APC in Abuja. He was accompanied to the convention by 160 of his APC colleagues.

Joe Onwukeme: Challenges Facing Nigerian Unemployed Youths

This article became necessary as a follow up to my Diary Of An Unemployed Graduate (DOAUG).

After the article was published, a concerned unemployed youth sent me an e mail.

“Joe, I read your DOAUG; it gives me joy that you understand the pains of unemployed graduates. But if I may ask, why are you even complaining? You have not stayed up to a year at home since you passed out from National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme and you are this desperate for a job; just calm down.

“There are back logs of graduates waiting to be employed; they are not desperate nor complaining the way you are doing, I understand your problem; I was this desperate when I passed out from NYSC in 2009; I used the zeal as a fresher to hustle for a job as an Engineer.

“I have travelled to anywhere you can think of in Nigeria and the jobs are not forth coming. I have resigned to fate, hoping for a miracle. I hope you join me”.

This is one out of numerous testimonies of millions of Nigerian unemployed youths. There is no middle class family in Nigeria that doesn’t have an unemployed graduate. We are as visible as the sun and can be easily identified in the streets, joints, social gatherings, etc. We are practically idle; our daily routine can be easily predicted.

The challenges facing the Nigerian youths in the 21st century is too numerous to ponder. As a youth, little or no attention is accorded to us. We struggle and pay to get virtually everything; the conventional way of getting admission into higher institution of learning through Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB) have been thwarted.

After JAMB, we go through rigorous Post-University And Matriculation Examination (UME) exercise, this gives room for extortion by various higher institution of learning before majority of us get admission.

When some of us that read professional courses like Medicine and Medical Lab. Science are through with school, the rigorous bureaucratic processes we under go to process our licence and get an approved teaching hospital for our house-manship and internship programmes breeds room for exploitation. No youth wants to go and serve where his or her safety is not guaranteed; this leaves us with no other option but to influence where to go for our mandatory one year NYSC scheme.

When we are through with the mandatory NYSC scheme, we are automatically thrown into the labour market with little or no provision to face the harsh realities of life.

We adapt to every job offer; when they recruit us to join and conduct election, religious extremists who the poll results didn’t favour will take vengeance sniffing life out of us. The government will immediately condemn it and praise us for “dying serving our Father Land.”

We are forgotten immediately we are buried.

Over five hundred thousand youths participated in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment exercise meant for less than four thousand youths and about twenty of us died with many injured. The government will call it “National Tragedy” that must be critically examined and proffer alternative solution. We move on to the next job search because we know nothing will come out from their empty promises.

When they organize ceremonies, they invite friends, associates and politicians with close affinity but shut the doors against us with a caveat, “Strictly By Invitation”. When they organize rallies for election, they declare the gates wide open for us because of their political interest.

They encourage us to be self-employed without provision for sustainable policies that will encourage small and medium enterprise to strive. No administration has been able to proffer reasonable solution to our accumulated problems; everything has been left on the altar of politics between the ruling and opposition parties while blame games dominate our headline news.

The quest to acquire power by desperate politicians has led to extreme insurgency in the North- Eastern parts of Nigeria. Our territories are being taken over on daily basis and hope of over 200 kidnapped Chibok sisters returning is diminishing on daily basis.

They have relegated us from corridors of power to the boys quarters of power. The same men that dominated our country both as politicians and military administrators in the first, second and third republics even before some of us were born, have kept their tenacious hold on power.

The only place they have not laid claim to is the entertainment industry, maybe because they see us as nuisance and noise makers that are only needed for entertainment in their political rallies, coronation ceremonies, children’s weddings and anniversaries.

Some of us that can’t withstand the pressure become easy prey to our desperate politicians. We turn to their hireling and execute all their dirty jobs. When they succeed, we are compensated with Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Personal Assistants (PAs) for jobs well executed. At other times, they abandon us to our fate.

Over the years, our lawmakers have been complacent to our plight. They trivialise issues that concerns our welfare with levity and have refused to accept their ignominy of failures. This has resulted to some of us taking laws into our hands and every part of the nation is experiencing one form of youth restiveness to another; terrorism is taking the lead.

In summary, the challenges facing Nigerian unemployed youths are too numerous to mention. They have widened the gap between the haves and the have not; some of us have resigned to fate while others are still striving for excellence,

For how long are we going to remain at the boys quarters of power? When are we going to be recognised and be given opportunity to contribute to nation building?

It took a rag tag fruit seller in the street of Tunisia in January 2011, to launch an Arab Spring Revolution that engulfed North African countries of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and fundamentally re shaped the nature of politics in the region.

Numerous factors like government corruption, economic decline, unemployment, extreme poverty which are peculiar to us were pointed out as the reason why the revolution took place.

Globalization, through social networking was the powerful tool that made the Arab revolution a success.

In Nigeria, because of the way our security agencies detest protests and the brutality approach they always adopt to disperse crowd, it will be a good idea to stick to social media which our government agencies don’t have control over to build our connections and also use it as a platform for public opinion, expression and mobilization.

As we approach 2015 general elections, and as our politicians intensify their campaigns, let us not be carried away by their antics and propaganda. Let us shun sentiments and focus more on their past records, credibility, manifestos and debates.

The ones that can convince us with realistic facts on how to rescue this nation from its series of anomalies should be given our thumb fingers at the polls.

The Nigeria of our dreams begins with you and I.

Guy Scott Is Africa’s Only White President; Assumes Interim Role In Zambia

Following the death of Zambian President Michael Sata in UK on Tuesday night, his vice-president Guy Scott was yesterday (Wednesday) named as the country’s interim president. This makes Guy Scott the only white President in the African continent and it will remain that way for three months before an election takes place to determine the next president of Zambia.

Guy Scott won’t be eligible to run for office in three months as the constitution does not allow him because his parents who are English and Scottish immigrants were not born in Zambia. The 70-year-old is shocked that he has become President:

“Everyone is getting used to calling me ‘Your Excellency’, and I’m getting used to it. There are truckloads of guys, police following me on motorbikes. It’s very strange but I’m very proud to be entrusted with it,” Scott said.

Woman Hospitalized After Tongue Of A Deer Is Found In Her Vagina

An Arkansas woman is currently recovering after the tongue of a deer was found in her vagina. She had visited a gynecologist to complain about vaginal odour. DailyBuzzLive reports that the doctor performed routine tests to ascertain the cause of the anomaly but all tests were not helpful as they turned out to be negative until the result of the pap smear was out. Cells which were found inside her vagina were not human cells but couldn’t be identified.
The next time the woman returned for a repeat examination and discussion of findings, the doctor inserted a speculum into her private and scooped out a large chunk of decaying flesh which has now been identified as the tongue of a deer.

“During the exam, I was utterly shocked with what I had found. Never in my 33 years of practice have I seen anything like this.”“What I removed from the woman, looked like a long tongue, but certainly not a human tongue. Then, what she admitted to her husband after the exam, was even more disturbing”, Dr. Lee told the American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology.

So, here’s what actually happened! The husband of the woman in question is a hunter and recently brought back the body of a deer which he kept in the garage. His wife saw the tongue’s deer and was in awe of the length and decided to use this for her own sexual pleasure. From the confession she has now made to her husband, she however thought she had removed it.

Breaking: Federal Government Withdraws Speaker Aminu Tambuwal’s Security Detail

All the security detail attached to Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Waziri Tambuwal have been withdrawn by the Federal Government, Daily Trust said.

Tambuwal who has become a political star and a big hit with the APC received a rousing welcome on Wednesday, a day after his formal defection at the extraordinary mini national convention of the APC in Abuja. He was accompanied to the convention by 160 of his APC colleagues.

As the Speaker of the House of Reps and the four citizen of the country, he is entitled to a round the clock security made up of men from the Police, Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Security (DSS).

A source told Daily Trust that Tambuwal was told that “a verdict will be entered against him by a Court in Abuja on Thursday. The thing here is that why not wait for the verdict before any action is taken?”

Efforts to reach the Speaker have so far proved unsuccessful. Calls and SMS sent to his spokesman Malam Imam Imam, have so far remained unanswered.
It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan called for an emergency meeting late Wednesday following Tambuwal’s exit.
In attendance were the National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Mu’azu, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Emeka Ihedioha; the Deputy Leader of the House, Mr. Leo Ogor; and a member from Delta State, Ndudi Elumelu, in attendance.

Some PDP governors such as Gabriel Suswam (Benue); Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa): Ibrahim Dankwabo (Gombe) and Sullivan Chime (Enugu) were also part of the meeting.

Top government officials who attended the parley included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim; the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki; and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Muhammed Adoke (SAN).

“The issue of the Speaker and his exit was one of the fundamental issues discussed at the meeting,” he said.

Aminu Tambuwal: APC Represents The Hope For Change, A Promise Of A Brighter Tomorrow

It is an honour and privilege to join you all today at this Special Convention of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). I am really glad to be part of the APC family. Indeed, I have been overwhelmed by the massive outpouring of goodwill and welcome that I have received from the members of our great party and other well meaning Nigerians since the formal notification of my membership of APC. From the depth of my heart, I say, thank you.

And in appreciation of your warm hand of fellowship, I hereby rededicate myself to the task of building and growing our Party, and helping our party achieve its mission of lifting Nigeria to glorious heights and restoring hope to the citizens of our great country. In this regard, I hereby call on all other like minded Nigerians to join this movement to deliver on the promise of a new Nigeria.

The APC is the party where the progressive ideals of good governance to which I subscribe are wholeheartedly embraced and applied for the betterment of Nigeria.

I have embraced the APC platform as a veritable instrument for genuine change and enduring national development. We must constantly remind ourselves that Nigerians yearn for true change and APC represents the hope for this change, and a promise of a brighter tomorrow.

The Programmes of the APC are very attractive and will bring about radical changes in the way we do business in Nigeria. The kind of change Nigeria truly needs.

The work may appear tedious and the road ahead may appear long and hard, but our party is amply endowed with all the key ingredients of success. We need unity and solidarity in our ranks in order to face the challenges ahead.

In the weeks ahead, we will engage party men and women and Nigerians on the future direction of our nation and means of rescuing her from the malaise of youth unemployment, insecurity, institutionalized corruption, poverty, socio-economic decline and infrastructural decay.

May Almighty God guide our deliberations at this Special Convention, guide our path, bless our great Party, the All Progressives Congress. And may He bless and protect the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
