50 Killed As Church Building Collapse In Uyo, Governor Escapes

There was tragedy in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital Friday as at least 50 people were killed after a church building collapsed during a service.

Among the worshippers at the Reighers Bible Church on the fateful day was Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, who narrowly escaped death Channels Television reports.

The incident reportedly occurred during the consecration of Pastor Akan Week as a Bishop at the church premises located at Uyo Village Road, off Barrack Road. The church was filled to the brim for the ceremony.

The exact cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained although sources close to the church said that it was being renovated and upgraded ahead of the event.
