Fred-Amata

I shocked myself… I have always believed in de potential for humans to do absolutely anything they set out to. I have never had a singing voice, not even for Karaoke. But something about Nigeria, something about our current crises, the brewing hate, the looming threat of disintegration the dwindling value for life, the eroding culture of brotherhood, worried me, inspired me. Invigorated me.. And I sang. You are a Nigerian Man… I recollect the Nigeria I grew up in…The brotherhood of neighbours our bounteous unity in diversity… Nigerian Man was inspired to re invigorate patriotic fervour in Nigerians. It is my social responsibility call to All Nigerians…. This is our Identity. It is light hearted and danceable… Help spread it… Sing it…. Dance to it… Happy Independence..

eLDee Confirms Retirement From The Music Industry

It is common to see musicians announce their retirement and then return back few years later. When Nigerian rapper, Lanre Dabiri popularly known as eLDee said his 2012 album, Undeniable was his last, many didn’t take him too seriously.

Well, it appears he is keeping true that promise as a fan inquired about his musical career on Twitter and the rapper’s response was clear:

Another fan also suggested the rapper could release some of his already recorded works even if he won’t record anymore and the rapper agreed to the suggestion:

He said the fighting was over territorial protection.
The incident reportedly left many people injured as a result of dangerous weapons used by the rival gangs.
It was gathered that the incident occurred outside the venue of the assessment tour and did not affect the programme.
The Ogun state Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that one person lost his life during the incidence.
He said that 16 people had been arrested, while weapons, including four pump action guns, cutlasses, axes and assorted charms were seized.

2015: Jonathan Will Lose If He Runs — APC

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been advised not to bow to the pressure being mounted on him by selfish groups and individuals to contest the 2015 presidential election. Giving the advice in a statement in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) predicted that Jonathan will lose if he allows himself to be deceived into seeking re-election next year.

“The handwriting is already on the wall for President Jonathan in view of the calibre of leaders and unprecedented masses that attended the historic declaration of General Muhammadu Buhari to contest the 2015 presidential election. It has therefore become imperative for President Jonathan to start writing his handover notes as his game is up,” Rivers APC said in the statement signed by the Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.

According to Ikanya, “It is now clear why President Jonathan is scared and reluctant in accepting the call to contest the 2015 general election as evident in his recent statement: ‘In deciding on an appropriate response to such calls, I will place the greater interests of national harmony, cohesion, unity, security, political stability, progress, equity, justice and fairness above any personal ambition or sectional agenda.’ We must commend him for this wise stand as he knows that his contesting will not be in the greatest interest of national harmony. He must, therefore, perish the thought if he really loves Nigeria and wishes to promote the greatest interest of national harmony.”

Rivers APC said that “if Dr. Jonathan however succumbs to the pressure of haters of Nigeria to contest the 2015 general election he should prepare to be the first sitting President to lose a general election since there is no basis whatsoever for him to win any election again as his record card shows that he is a failure. Today, Nigeria has never had it so bad as the present leadership under Jonathan has inflicted unimaginable suffering on Nigerians.”

Dr. Ikanya noted that apart from the imminent failure awaiting him at the polls, Dr. Jonathan very well knows that his participation in the 2015 election would be totally immoral since he is not qualified to run, as he is presently enjoying a second term in office. “The Constitution of our country makes it clear that no one can enjoy three consecutive tenures as President and Jonathan is bound by the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution,” Ikanya declared.

He expressed happiness over the high quality of tested and trusted leaders who have indicated interest to fly the flag of APC in its rescue mission. “PDP’s reign these past fifteen years has brought shame and hardship to our nation and we must unite to salvage this nation from the hands of the present confused leaders of PDP,” he said.

Rivers APC aligned with the position of its Leader, Governor Chibuike Amaechi, who recently asked President Jonathan from where he intends to get the votes that will get him elected in 2015 knowing that he has lost Lagos, Kano and Rivers states before the election as rigging will not be considered for the 2015 general election.

The statement concluded by echoing Amaechi’s position: “For us as APC, we will line up behind the party. Go back home now and get your voters cards. We will punish these people. Rivers State is not in their hands. Lagos State is not in their hands. Kano State is not in their hands. So, tell me where we are going? They are banking on using security against us. We shall teach them a lesson. We will fight with our body, with our lives because there must be change this time.

“And I have said it again and again; there is no aspirant in APC that is not better than the aspirants in PDP. What we must do is not only to vote for the aspirants in support; we must also take the voters card so that when we finish nominating our candidate here, we will line behind that candidate and ensure that we will vote out Jonathan.

$9.3m Arms Deal: “I Can Personally Vouch For Him” Redeem Pastor Adeboye Defends Oritsejafor

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, yesterday, defended the national president of the Christian Association, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, following the controversy surrounding the seizure of $9.3 million arms purchase funds by South Africa.

Pastor Adeboye who spoke in London as reported by Vanguard Newspaper during an ecclesiastical visit said, “Pastor Ayodele Joseph Oritsejafor is a man of God I trust and I can personally vouch for him. I believe on the issue of his aircraft being chartered and the purpose it was used for he had no prior knowledge. I’m sure God will continue to build his church and the gates of hell will not prevail in Jesus name. One anointed cannot attack another anointed. A pastor cannot attack another pastor. Touch not my anointed is what God said. Some Nigerians have questioned the use of Pastor Oritsejafor’s private jet by the Federal Government to convey the money to South Africa, accusing him of involvement in money laundering.”

The Federal Government had to come out in defence of the CAN president, arguing that Oritsejafor who is also the founder of Word of Life Bible Church has no hand in the deal. The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan (Public Communication), Dr. Doyin Okupe, told newsmen in Abuja: “Oritsejafor is the President of CAN and head of all Christians in Nigeria who is representing at least, 50 per cent of people in this country. When it comes to a man like that, people should be cautious and circumspect.”

Law Students Lied, Over 1000 Failed Bar Exam, Management Reacts

Authorities of Nigeria Law School have described the claims that about 4,000 students of the institution failed its August 2014 Bar Final Examinations as untrue.

Some students of the school have in the past few days embarked on protests over what they described as mass failure in the final examination at the Nigerian Law School which is the main prerequisite for young lawyer graduates to be called to the Bar.

The students had alleged that over 70 per cent of those who wrote the exams in August failed when the results were recently released by the school.
The students blamed the mass failure on Professor Olanrewaju Onadeko, Director General of the School who they claimed gave instructions that lots of scripts be marked down for reasons they however failed to explain.

The students had consequently taken to the social media to protest what they described as the poor handling and marking of the Bar 2 final exam while calling for a review of the exercise.

But while speaking to PM NEWS on Monday, Mrs. E.O Max-Uba, Secretary to the Council of Legal Education and Director of Administration of Nigeria Law School said contrary to the claims of the students, 57.01 per cent of those who wrote the exam passed rightly.

She added that the Bar Examination is just like any other professional examination which the failure or pass rate varies from year to year.

A document made available to PM NEWS indicated that a total of 5841 regular candidates registered for the examination in the 2013/2014 academic year across the six campuses of the Law School. A further breakdown of the performance revealed that four students made 1st Class Honours while 96 students passed in the Second Class (Upper Division).

On the other hand, 620 students passed in the Second Class (Lower Division) while 2610 or 44.68 per cent of the students recorded ordinary pass. Also, 501 students recorded conditional pass because they have reference in one subject while 1932 students failed the examination.
However, the failure rate was high among the re-sit candidates with about 1168 out of 1335 students who registered failing the examinations while 88 students recorded ordinary pass. Also, 26 of the re-sit students recorded conditional pass.

Mrs. Max Uba told PM NEWS that the failure rate was high among the re-sit students because some of them are either working or based outside the country.

The Secretary to the Council of Legal Education who said the ongoing protest is being led by some of the re-sit students noted that some of them have sat for the examinations four times without success because they refused to participate in revision classes organised for them prior to the examinations.

She dismissed claims of victimisation by the DG of Law School who she said does not even participate in marking of examination papers. In the same vein, Mrs Max-Uba dismissed the claims of victimisation of the students by lecturers as she argued that the examination papers are not usually marked by those who set the examinations.

On whether the results will be reviewed, she said any candidate may apply for review in accordance with extant rules of the Council for Legal Education.
She however said candidates who failed the examination will only have the opportunity of a re-sit next year.

Mrs. Max-Uba also informed PM NEWS that in view of the poor performance of the re-sit candidates at the August 2014 examinations, the Board of Studies of the Council of Legal Education has directed that henceforth, re-sit candidates are to attend at least, eight weeks compulsory revision classes at the Law School to the be allowed to sit for the examinations.

According to her, details of the re-sit will be announced soon.

Ekiti Assembly Makes U-Turn, Opens Today After Speaker Promised One Month Closure

The Ekiti State House of Assembly which last week adjourned sitting for a month, yesterday reversed its earlier decision, and is set to reopen today.

Speaker of the house of assembly last week Thursday, while closing the assembly Dr. Adewale Omirin, said the action was taken to enable members go on one-month recess.

But stakeholders in the state, including Governor Ayo Fayose, had criticised the speaker for directing the lawmakers to proceed on recess at a time they said the new government in place would require the Assembly to pass the 2015 appropriation bill as well as screen and confirm political appointees.

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the Assembly had defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the inauguration of Governor Fayose on Thursday.

With the defection, PDP now has seven members while the APC has 19 out of the 26 members of the House.

The speaker had in a statement by his special adviser, media, Wole Olujobi, alleged that there is a plan by the defected APC members to remove him.

Olujobi, who also announced that the assembly would be reopened today, said the complex is being reopened in the public interest.

He said all members of the house have been contacted to resume sitting today.

Borno Elders Forum Insists FG Negotiated With A Factional Boko Haram

The Borno Elders Forum has said that the Federal Government may have only negotiated with one faction of the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram.

The forum made up of retired senior civilian and military officials from the state, said attacks in recent days indicated that not all Boko Haram fighters were aware of the deal.

Spokesman for the group Bulama Mali Gubio said “If they are aware and they are in agreement that there is a ceasefire, I don’t think they would continue attacking innocent people and taking over places,”

“It is either (that) those the federal government is negotiating with are not the Boko Haram but the usual 419ers… or it is just some kind of mockery,”

“If the federal government does not know who the real Boko Haram are, I think they should come here to find out from us,”

“The real Boko Haram who are killing us, who are burning our towns and villages, are not the Boko Haram that a peace deal was reached with.” He said
