Top 10 most expensive EPL transfers

The Premier League is the richest league in the world, with some of the richest clubs in the world.

The League has a new mega-money superstar, with Enzo Fernandez becoming the league’s most expensive player.

Chelsea broke the British transfer record with Fernandez from Benfica for a fee of £106.5 million on deadline day.

Below are the top 10 most expensive transfers in the history of the Premier League

10. Jadon Sancho – £73m

Borussia Dortmund to Man United 

In 2021, Man United splashed a massive £73m to land one of their top transfer targets – Jadon Sancho. However, the Englishman has struggled to replicate his fine Dortmund form at Old Trafford. 

9. Virgil van Dijk – £75m

Southampton to Liverpool 

Jurgen Klopp included Virgil van Dijk in his Liverpool project and oversaw the star’s acquisition by Liverpool in a £75m deal.

 Since his historic transfer from Southampton to Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk has unquestionably lived up to his reputation. The Dutchman has played a significant role in Liverpool’s recent success under Jurgen Klopp.

8. Romelu Lukaku – £75m

Everton to Man United

When Romelu Lukaku moved to Manchester United from Everton in 2017 for £75 million, it was anticipated that he would eventually fill the No. 9 position permanently. The Belgian was ultimately sent to Inter Milan after failing to live up to his high price tag and returned to the Premier League with Chelsea.

7. Harry Maguire – £75m

Leicester City to Man United

In 2019, Manchester United splashed a shocking £75m to facilitate the move of Maguire from Leicester to the club.

Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea

The January transfer of 2023 sees the acquisition of Mudryk by Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk. The deal was initially an Arsenal deal, but Chelsea made a shocking move for the Ukranian in a  £88m

4. Paul Pogba – £89m

Juventus to Man United 

Pogba was initially in the Manchester United team before he was offloaded to for his inability to impress the coach.

In 2016, Manchester United moved to resign Paul Pogba in an £89m transfer deal from Juventus. The Frenchman spent six years with the English club before he was released from the club following a fallout.

3. Romelu Lukaku – £97.5m

Inter Milan to Chelsea

Romelo’s move from Inter Milan to Chelsea in 2021 sees the striker return to Stamford bridge for a second time. The then-Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel, was interested in the striker following his spectacular season in Italy the season before. This led the team to make a record move of £97.5m for the Belgian striker

However, Lukaku was unable to make an impact on the team, and he was loaned back to Inter Milan following a disappointing performance at the Stamford bridge

2. Jack Grealish – £100m

Aston Villa to Man City

In 2021, Manchester City made a shocking move for Grealish after having a spectacular stint in the 2020 season. The Guardiola-led team snatched the deal from their Manchester rival, who was also interested in the Englishman.

The transfer cost a whooping £100m to see Manchester City acquire Jack. However, The englishman has not been living up to the expectation of his new club.

1. Enzo Fernandez – £107m

Benfica to Chelsea

In the 2023 January transfer window, Chelsea acquired Enzo in a shocking £107m deal from Benfica. This followed the player’s spectacular performance at Qatar’s 2022 FIFA world cup.

The wunderkind moved to Chelsea after spending six months in Benfica in a £10m move from River Plate 

His transfer to Chelsea makes him the most expensive player in the history of the EPL.

The player is expected to wear the number 5 following the departure of Jorginho to Arsenal.
