Biography
Efemena Mukoro, famously known as Blackmagic (formerly Ejay and Ejay Blackmagic), is a Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter.
Blackmagic was born on April 21 and raised in Lagos State, Nigeria,
He is the head of the Based on Belief record label and won the 2013 Headies Award for “Best Alternative Song.”
Education
Black Magic attended King’s College, Lagos for his secondary education.
He then proceeded to obtain a degree in computer science from the University of Benin.
Career
Blackmagic dropped out of school to focus on music and started his career as Ejay. As a soul and Afrobeat performer, he joined Lynxxx’s Syndik8 label in 2010.
He later released a number of singles and his debut album, Blackmagic 1.0 in 2011. He became well-known thanks to the song “Confam,” which he and Sasha P co-wrote.
He gained notoriety in 2013 after the release of his single “Repete”.
“Repete” is one of the Nigerian songs that has received the most positive press, according to the media. In Nigeria, he is regarded as a pioneer of the alternative scene.
In 2013, he founded Based on Belief, his record label.
His most well-known works include the albums “Something for The Pies” from 2021, “Sorry” from 2021, “Anything for Love” from 2019 and “Ponmo” from 2019.
He is best known for being one of Nigeria’s pioneers of alternative music. He has also collaborated with top artists like Olamide, Adekunle Gold, Seyi Shey, Blaqbones, Vector, Phyno Reminisce, and many more.
