Avoid These Mistakes When Applying for a Nigerian Passport

0

Obtaining a Nigerian passport is an essential step for international travel and serves as a vital identification document.

However, the application process can be complex and time-consuming, requiring careful attention to detail.

To ensure a smooth and successful passport application experience, it is crucial to avoid common mistakes that can lead to delays or even denials.

In this article, we will highlight the key mistakes to avoid when applying for a Nigerian passport.

1. Incomplete Application

One of the most common mistakes is submitting an incomplete application. Ensure that you carefully fill out all the required sections of the application form, including personal information, contact details, and travel history. Double-check your application to make sure you haven’t missed any fields or left any sections blank.

2. Incorrect or Inconsistent Information

Providing incorrect or inconsistent information can lead to complications in the application process. Be diligent in providing accurate details such as your full name, date of birth, place of birth, and contact information. It is crucial to cross-check the information with your supporting documents to ensure consistency.

3. Failure to Provide Required Documents

Applicants often overlook or fail to provide the necessary supporting documents, leading to delays or rejection of their application.

Carefully review the list of required documents and ensure you have them all in the prescribed format.

These may include proof of identity, proof of nationality, birth certificate, passport-sized photographs, and any additional documents specific to your circumstances.

4. Insufficient Proof of Address

Proof of address is a crucial requirement for passport applications. Ensure you provide sufficient and up-to-date documentation to prove your current residential address, such as utility bills, bank statements, or government-issued identification documents.

Avoid using outdated or insufficient documents that may raise suspicion or lead to rejection.

5. Inadequate Passport Photographs

Passport photographs that do not meet the specified requirements can lead to application delays or rejections. Follow the guidelines precisely, including the size, background color, and appearance.

Avoid wearing accessories, hats, or dark-colored clothing that may affect the quality or compliance of the photograph.

6. Failure to Book an Appointment

Many passport offices in Nigeria require applicants to book an appointment before visiting. Failing to schedule an appointment can result in unnecessary waiting time and delays in the application process.

Check the requirements of your chosen passport office and ensure you secure an appointment before visiting.

7. Ignoring Updates or Changes in Passport Regulations

Passport regulations and requirements can change over time. It is essential to stay informed and up-to-date with the latest guidelines provided by the Nigerian Immigration Service.

Ignoring or not being aware of changes can lead to mistakes or omissions in your application, which may result in rejection.

8. Non-compliance with Payment Procedures

Applicants often overlook or misunderstand the payment procedures associated with passport applications.

Familiarize yourself with the designated payment methods, required fees, and any additional charges.

Follow the prescribed payment process to avoid complications or delays.

Conclusion

Applying for a Nigerian passport requires careful attention to detail and adherence to the prescribed guidelines.

Avoiding these common mistakes can increase the chances of a smooth and successful application process.

Remember to double-check your application, provide accurate information and required documents, and stay informed about any changes in passport regulations.

Saying “I Do” on a Budget: How to Plan a Budget-Friendly Engagement/Wedding

0

Planning a wedding is an exciting journey, but it can also be a costly one. However, a limited budget doesn’t mean you have to compromise on your dream wedding. With careful planning and creative thinking, you can have a beautiful and memorable wedding day without breaking the bank. In this article, we’ll guide you through practical tips and strategies to plan a budget-friendly wedding that reflects your style, love, and uniqueness.

1. Set a Realistic Budget

The first step in planning a budget-friendly wedding is determining how much you’re willing and able to spend.

Create a detailed budget that outlines all the wedding expenses, including venue, catering, attire, decorations, photography, and more.

Be realistic and allocate funds accordingly to avoid overspending.

2. Prioritize Must-Haves

Identify the key elements that are most important to you and allocate a larger portion of your budget toward them.

Whether it’s the venue, food, or photography, prioritizing your must-haves will ensure you allocate your resources where they matter most.

3. Choose the Right Venue

Consider non-traditional and budget-friendly venue options such as community halls, parks, or even the backyard of a family member or friend.

These locations often have lower rental fees and allow for more flexibility in terms of decorations and catering.

4. Trim the Guest List

Limiting the number of guests is an effective way to reduce costs. Focus on inviting close family and friends, and consider having a separate small gathering or celebration for acquaintances and coworkers after the wedding.

This will help keep both the guest count and expenses under control.

5. DIY Decorations and Invitations

Put your creativity to work by making your own wedding decorations and invitations. Utilize online resources and tutorials to learn simple and elegant DIY techniques.

This not only adds a personal touch but also saves money on hiring professional decorators or purchasing expensive invitations.

6. Opt for Off-Season Dates and Times

Choosing an off-season wedding date and time can significantly lower costs. Wedding venues and vendors often offer discounts during less popular months or weekdays.

Consider having a morning or afternoon wedding followed by a brunch or lunch reception, as these options tend to be more affordable than evening affairs.

7. Shop Smart for Attire

Explore budget-friendly options for wedding attire. Look for sample sales, clearance racks, or consider renting instead of purchasing.

Don’t forget to check out pre-loved wedding dress websites where you might find beautiful gowns at a fraction of the original price.

8. DIY Music and Entertainment

Rather than hiring a live band or DJ, create your own wedding playlist and connect it to a sound system.

Ask friends or family members to be in charge of the music, ensuring a customized and cost-effective entertainment experience.

9. Consider Potluck or Food Trucks

Food can consume a significant portion of your wedding budget. Explore alternatives such as a potluck-style reception where guests contribute their favorite dishes, or hire food trucks that offer a unique and affordable catering option.

10. Embrace Minimalism

Simplicity can be elegant and budget-friendly. Opt for minimalistic decorations, centerpieces, and wedding favors. Focus on creating an intimate atmosphere with thoughtful details rather than extravagant displays.

Conclusion

Planning a budget-friendly wedding requires careful consideration, creativity, and a focus on what truly matters to you as a couple.

By setting a realistic budget, prioritizing key elements, and exploring cost-saving options, you can have a memorable wedding day that reflects your love and style without breaking the bank.

Remember, the most important aspect of any wedding is the celebration of your commitment and the presence of loved ones, and that can be achieved within any budget. So, start planning, get creative,

Celebrate in Style: How to Plan a Budget-Friendly Birthday Bash

0

Birthdays are special occasions meant to be celebrated, but you don’t need to spend a fortune to create a memorable and fun-filled birthday party. With a little creativity and smart planning, you can throw a budget-friendly birthday bash that will leave a lasting impression on both you and your guests. In this article, we’ll provide you with practical tips and ideas on how to plan a budget-friendly birthday celebration without compromising on the joy and excitement.

1. Determine Your Budget

The first step in planning a budget-friendly birthday is to establish a realistic budget.

Determine how much you are willing to spend and allocate funds for different aspects of the celebration, such as venue, decorations, food, and entertainment.

By setting a budget from the start, you can ensure that you stay within your financial means.

2. Host the Party at Home or a Free Venue

Consider hosting the birthday party at your home or a friend’s house instead of renting a venue.

This can help save a significant amount of money on venue costs. If you prefer an outdoor celebration, look for local parks or public spaces that offer free or low-cost reservation options.

3. Send Digital Invitations

Save money on invitation cards and postage by sending digital invitations through email or social media platforms.

Many free online invitation websites and templates allow you to create personalized and stylish invitations.

4. DIY Decorations

Get creative and make your own decorations using inexpensive materials. Consider using balloons, streamers, and DIY banners to add a festive touch to the venue.

You can also repurpose items at home to create unique and budget-friendly decorations.

5. Plan a Potluck or DIY Food Stations

Rather than shouldering the entire food expense, consider organizing a potluck-style celebration where guests contribute their favorite dishes.

Alternatively, set up DIY food stations with a theme, such as a taco bar, salad station, or make-your-own pizza corner. This way, guests can customize their meals while keeping costs in check.

6. Opt for Homemade Desserts

Instead of ordering an expensive custom cake, consider baking your own or enlisting the help of a talented friend or family member.

Cupcakes, cookies, or a homemade dessert bar can be equally delicious and budget-friendly. You can also find affordable pre-made desserts at local bakeries or grocery stores.

7. DIY Entertainment

Plan budget-friendly entertainment options that provide endless fun for guests. Create a playlist of your favorite songs and set up a speaker system for a dance party.

Organize classic party games such as charades, karaoke, or a DIY photo booth. Encourage guests to bring their favorite board games for some friendly competition.

8. Personalize Party Favors

Rather than spending money on expensive party favors, consider creating personalized and meaningful mementos.

Handmade crafts, personalized notes, or small DIY kits can be thoughtful and budget-friendly options that your guests will appreciate.

9. Embrace Thrifty Shopping

Shop for party supplies and decorations at discount stores, thrift shops, or online marketplaces.

Look for sales, coupons, and bulk discounts to save money on items such as plates, napkins, and balloons.

By being resourceful and comparing prices, you can find great deals without compromising on quality.

10. Keep It Simple and Intimate

Remember that the most important aspect of a birthday celebration is spending time with loved ones and creating lasting memories.

Keeping the guest list small and intimate will save you money and allow for more meaningful interactions and conversations.

Conclusion

Planning a budget-friendly birthday celebration doesn’t mean sacrificing the fun and joy of the occasion.

With some creative thinking, smart shopping, and a focus on personalization, you can create a memorable.

  5. Ignore Market Noise: Buffett advises investors to ignore short-term market noise and focus on the long-term prospects of a company. Tune out the daily fluctuations and invest based on the underlying fundamentals.
  6. Patience Pays Off: Buffett’s success is a testament to the power of patience. Be willing to wait for the right opportunities to arise and avoid making impulsive investment decisions based on market sentiment.

Lamidi Apapa denies receiving N500m to destabilise Labour Party

0

The factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr Lamidi Apapa has denied receiving N500 million from any quarters in order to scuttle the case of the party at the Presidential Election Petition Court, (PEPC).

Apapa has also asked the presidential candidate of the party in the Feb. 25 Presidential Election, Mr Peter Obi to intervene in the leadership tussle of the party objectively with a view to resolving it.

Briefing newsmen after escaping being lynched by irate youths at the PEPC on Wednesday in Abuja, Apapa denied receiving any money or being influenced by anybody or group to work against the party.

He said that Obi must be unbiased and objective in handling the crisis in order to resolve the leadership tussle.

Apapa decried what happened at the PEPC  in the presence of  Obi describing it as disgraceful and a test to Obi’s leadership quality.

The factional chairman said that the leadership crisis would have been put behind them if the presidential candidate had respected an order of the  FCT High Court.

The FCT High court had ordered Julius Abure and three others from parading themselves as national officers of the party over their indictment for forgery and perjury.

Tracing the genesis of the crisis, Apapa said that immediately the order of court was served on the parties, he was unanimously selected to lead the party in acting capacity.

He said that it was wrong for Obi to be according respect to Abure in spite of the order of the court and as a presidential candidate seeking justice from the same court of law.

He implored Obi to be open minded and neutral in order to end the crisis.

In attendance at the briefing were the Deputy National Chairman of the Party in the North, Mr Mike Auta, the National Publicity Secretly Olufemi Arabambi and the Acting Women Leader Rukkayat Salihu.

For his part, Auta  denied that the All Progressives Congress, (APC) was behind the crisis adding that the allegation was baseless and unfounded.

He also said that the Apapa-led faction had no intention of withdrawing the petition at the PEPC.

Auta apologised to Nigerians who he said gave the party over six million votes during the presidential election saying  they should not be discouraged by the current leadership crisis as it would soon be over.

He gave the assurance that the dispute would be resolved amicably.

$15m Largesse: Gbajabiamila adjourns plenary indefinitely over fear of impeachment

0

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, on Wednesday adjourned plenary indefinitely over fear of a possible impeachment plot by some lawmakers.

A report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) claimed that the lawmakers had perfected plans to impeach Gbajabiamila over the imposition of Rep. Tajudeen Abbas as the consensus candidate for the 10th House of Reps. Speaker.

Some of the lawmakers who spoke with NAN on the impeachment plot under the condition of anonymity alleged that the speaker adjourned the plenary because of the fear of impeachment.

Gbajabiamila is being accused of single-handedly manipulating the rules of the House to edge out more credible aspirants in favour of his preferred candidate Rep. Tajudeen Abbas.

Meanwhile, this is coming on the heels of allegations of unfair distribution of $15million largesse from the executive arm of government.

According to a report by Leadership, aggrieved lawmakers specifically alleged that Gbajabiamila had an underhand deal with the executive on behalf of the House to pass the N22.7trn Ways and Means borrowing from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) but ended up short-changing his colleagues in sharing the $15million made available to the House to sweeten the deal.

The brewing crisis, it was learned, had forced Gbajabiamila to postpone the resumption of plenary, which was already slated for Tuesday, to buy more time and pacify the aggrieved members.

The speaker adjourned the plenary under the guise that the earlier date was announced in error.

In a terse statement on Monday, the clerk of the House, Yahaya Danzaria said, “This is to inform all Hon Members and the general public that the House of Representatives will not resume plenary on Tuesday 16th May, 2023 as earlier announced. The next adjourned date will be Wednesday 17th May, 2023 at 11:00 am. Please disregard earlier notice and date; it was made in error. All inconveniences are highly regretted.”

The House had on Tuesday, 31st January, authorised the president to borrow a fresh N1 trillion from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to fund the 2022 supplementary budget.  While the House approved restructuring of the N1tn WMAs, the lawmakers dropped the request for N22,719,703,774,306.90 from the CBN.

After several negotiations with members of the concerned committees of the House and other critical stakeholders, Gbajabiamila secured commitment of the House to pass the request on Thursday, 4th May.

LEADERSHIP also gathered that the $15milion was allegedly negotiated for by Gbajabiamila but he kept it away from his colleagues until last week when lawmakers got wind of the funds and accused him directly.

It was further gathered that the speaker immediately ordered disbursement of $10, 000 to each lawmaker, amounting to $3.6 million, as their own share of the largesse, and adjourned plenary. A rough calculation of the amount suggested that the speaker might have kept over $11million to himself.

“You can see that he didn’t allow the plenary to reconvene as planned. He knows that there is a crisis and he doesn’t want the deputy speaker to preside over a plenary with the situation on ground. How can only one person even take more money than the entire 360 members and call himself a leader. He is too greedy,” the member said.

Another member who spoke to our correspondent alleged that short-changing lawmakers had been Gbajabiamila’s stock in trade and that the speaker already bit more than he could chew.

“Let me tell you, this is not the first time. The executive released about N10bn for members of the House ahead of the elections; we only got $10, 000 each. Members are asking, what did Femi do with the balance? A similar amount was approved for the Senate and each Senator received about $40, 000,” he said.

The lawmaker said members who could not physically collect their own share were asked to send names and photos of their trusted aides to the staff in Gbajabiamila’s office as authorisation for pick-up.

A senior legislative aide (SLA) who collected on behalf of his principal confirmed the information.

“Your principal would have to send your name and photo to the speakers’ SA via WhatsApp and you will pick-up the money with your National Assembly ID card,” the female SLA said.

Patients groan as resident doctors at OAUTHC, UCH join warning strike

0

Resident Doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan have joined in the five-day warning strike called by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

In a similar development, resident doctors at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) in Ile Ife, Osun, also joined the five-day warning strike called by the association’s national executives.

Consequently only medical officers and some consultants offered their services and attended to patients.

NARD served notice on the Federal government on Tuesday warning that it could not guarantee further industrial harmony should government failed to address issues raised before May 29.

NARD’s letter entitled: “Notice of Strike Action’’ was signed jointly by its National President, Dr Innocent Orji and Secretary-General, Dr Chikezie Kelechi.

They stated that NARD had issued a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve issues as contained in the ultimatum before its expiration on May 13.

The doctors are demanding an immediate increment in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure to the tune of 200 per cent of current gross salaries of doctors.

NARD is also demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Bill seeking to compel medical and dental graduates to serve compulsorily in Nigeria for five years before getting full licences to practise.

It also wants immediate domestication of the Medical Residency Training Act and a review of Hazard Allowance by state governments.

Electrician jailed for stealing loudspeaker from Abuja Mosque

A Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced a 27-year-old electrician, Abdullazeez Abdulkawil, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing a loudspeaker from a Mosque.

Abdulkawil, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and theft and begged the court for leniency.

The Judge, Malam Saminu Suleiman,  gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N60,000 and warned him to desist from committing crimes in the future.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant, Sani Yusuf, of the same address, reported the matter at the Dutse Alhaji Police on April 30.

Ogada said the convict criminally trespassed into a Mosque in Dutse Makaranta, Abuja and stole a loudspeaker worth N30,000.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.

Italy football captain, Bonucci, announces retirement date

0

Italy captain Leonardo Bonucci has announced that he would retire at the end of the next football season.

Defender Bonucci has just turned 36 with one year left on his Juventus contract.

“When I stop playing next year, it will be the end of a defensive era –– a way of defending Italian style,” Bonucci said on Juventus’ YouTube channel.

The 120-times capped Bonucci was part of Italy’s Euro 2020-winning team and is a nine-time Serie A champion.

He won eight titles at Juventus and one at AC Milan, where he spent the 2017/2018 season.

Bonucci made his 500th Juventus appearance against Sevilla in the Europa League last week.

Recognised as one of football’s great defenders, he was part of the famous Juventus backline that included Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini and Gianluigi Buffon.

This was when the Bianconeri won eight titles between the 2011/2012 and 2019/2020 seasons.

“It’s a source of pride to be up there with the greatest,” Bonucci said.

“I hope lots of future defenders –– just as we had with (Franco) Baresi, (Alessandro) Nesta, (Paolo) Maldini, (Fabio) Cannavaro will see us four as idols.

“It would mean we have achieved a lot and given the game a lot.”
