It Is Difficult To Become Ogun Governor Without Obasanjo’s Blessing – Ogun PDP Guber Aspirant

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun state, Alhaji Gboyega Isiaka has said that it will be difficult for any politician to be a governor in the State without the blessing of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Isiaka said this in Abuja on Wednesday after picking his governorship nomination form from the party’s headquarters.

“We know that whoever wants to be governor of the state has to get the blessing of all, including Baba (Olusegun) Obasanjo. We are waiting and praying for the blessing of Baba.

“We know we will get it. He is the father of all and as the father,  we pray for his blessing because no one can be governor of the state without his blessing.”

He said it was wrong to say that the former President was leading a faction of the party in the state, adding that the last unification rally held in the state by the party had removed those having that idea.

Isiaka was one of the Labor Party members who recently defected to the PDP.

We Will Sweep The PDP From Office By 29 May 2015 – Speaker Aminu Tambuwal

The All Progressives Congress, the APC, today formally welcomed into its fold, Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, who announced his defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party yesterday.

The APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun called Tambuwal to the podium at the party’s special convention in Abuja.

Tambuwal was accompanied by many colleagues in the House of Representatives to the stage, among them the minority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Tambuwal, who read a prepared speech, said by 29 May 2015, the APC would have swept away the PDP from office.

He said the APC represents a new hope to Nigerians, a change agent that would save Nigeria from the problems of poverty and institutionalised corruption.

He said he has been overwhelmed by the encouraging words from party members since he announced his defection to the party and vowed to help the party achieve greatness in the country.

Nigeria’s opposition APC’s extraordinary national convention in Abuja is to approve amendments to the constitution of the party and also adopt its manifesto for the 2015 general elections.

Tambuwal Is A Big Fish For Us – APC National Chairman

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Oyegun has hailed the defection of the speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal to the APC describing it as a ‘big fish’

Oyegun who spoke to Channels Television, said “It is Absolutely big fish, absolutely delightful and sensational.

“Today we count among our fold the number four citizen of this great nation and we have only three to go. It can’t be truly better,” a delighted Oyegun said.

“I want to welcome Honourable Aminu Tambuwal to the fold of the APC.”

Chief Oyegun pointed out that Tambuwal’s body language had been clear that he was not feeling at home where he was, emphasising that “he can now feel at home”having joined the opposition APC.

Chief Oyegun also noted that Tambuwal would not be made to resign as speaker following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, the platform on which he became Speaker.

“The defection will not bring litigations against him.

“We do not even have time for litigation. By the time the House comes back from recess on December 2, it will be just a month to the elections.

“It is a decided issue. If you remember the Atiku-Obasanjo case, the Supreme court decided that Atiku was not in breach of the law when he left the PDP as the Vice President,” he said, insisting that “whatever the situation is, anybody can move from one party to the other”.

“Even if they try, they won’t get away with it anyway. I presume that with the antecedent of Tambuwal… He was not their preferred candidate. He became speaker on the strength of his personality and character and was able to combine almost the totality of the opposition with a substantial chunk of the PDP in the House,”

“I have no doubt he will not be impeached,”

Further Delay In Passing PIB Will Affect The Economy- Nigerian Society Of Engineers

The Nigerian Society of Engineer (NSE) has said that any further delay in passing the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) into law will affect the economy.

Engr. Isaac Olorunfemi, the President of the NSE gave this warning on Wednesday in Abuja at a world press conference to herald the World Engineering Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure (or WECSI 2014) to be hosted by Nigeria.

“We therefore call on the National Assembly to please expedite action on the passage of this all-important bill into law,” he said. “Further delay will be more harmful to our economy.”

Olorunfemi reminded the lawmakers of some of the provisions of the bill that make its enactment into a law imperative and urgent: one of them is less government participation in the oil and gas industry, thus minimizing its role and influence, and bringing transparency to policy and regulatory functions.

He said the bill would also encourage domestic gas utilization that will promote rapid industrialization; safe, sustainable and efficient infrastructural development in the sector; deregulation, and indigenous human capital development that will open doors for Nigerians to join the industry workforce, as well as protection of the environment.

T.B Joshua Submits List Of All Lodgers At Building To Coroner

Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, the coroner investigating Synagogue building collapse on Wednesday  said that he has received the list of the people lodging in the building prior to the accident.

The coroner had demanded for the list from the Synagogue Church of All Nations, following a request by the Lagos State Chief Forensic Pathologist, Prof. John Obafunwa.

Obafunwa, leading a team of forensic pathologists conducting autopsy on the bodies of the accident victims, assured that his team will reveal the identities of all dead persons upon the conclusion of their work, this he said was the reason they needed the list of the lodgers.

The pathologist, who said his team was able to identify 100 per cent and 98 per cent of the victims of the Associated Airline and Dana Airline accidents respectively, assured that Synagogue’s case would not be different.

Obafunwa gave this assurance while answering questions under cross-examination by lawyer to the church, Mr. Olalekan Ojo.

He said, “We know what we had to do and how we had to do it. The same thing happened in the Dana crash in which we identified 98 per cent of the victims. This same thing happened in the Associated Airline crash in which we identified 100 per cent of the victims.”

In his testimonies, the pathologist told the coroner that his final report will, apart from revealing the identities of the victims, also give the cause of their deaths and the possible cause of the building collapse.

“The final report will contain the various causes of death, which will answer so many questions as to what collapsed the building.

“It will tell us who died in the accident, by way of disaster victim identification,” Obafunwa said.

The pathologist further testified that he was in the position to tell whether the victims were exposed to smoke or corrosive odours from an explosive, if it was true that the building collapsed as a result of detonations.

He said, “As a forensic pathologist, I can identify the effect of corrosive burns, even when I was not there, even with just the photographs (taken during autopsy) and the detailed information from the autopsy report.

“Something related to that is the presence or absence of smoke after 10 days of embalment. You don’t look for smoke outside the body; the evidence of smoke inhalation is in the lungs and we took samples of the lungs and examined them under the microscope.

“If a building collapsed as a result of explosion, there could be a variety of injuries. Some people might die from the crush effect, some people might die as a result of fire; the fire could occur before or even after, you will still see burns. The question is whether the person died in the fire or before the fire. The person could die as a result of severe blood loss because of injury from shrapnels. There are multiple ways in which death could arise when you have an explosion, you could have complete disintegration; I am just giving a general answer.”

Also testifying, Mr Oladimeji Ige, Resource Development and Training Officer, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, said his team participated in the search and rescue of the victims.

“When we got to the church, nobody prevented us from entering the collapse site.

“In total, the Nigerian Red Cross provided one ambulance, while the church provided at least 10 ambulances.

“We worked with other volunteers of the church in carrying the victims to the hospital ,” he said

Meanwhile, only few days ago, crisis within the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zaria and Sabongari local government areas of Kaduna State prevented Malam Nasir El- Rufa’i from holding a meeting with the party executives in the two local government areas on Monday.

Some APC members at Teejay Palace in Zaria had engaged in physical combat when a heated argument ensued over a party chieftain at the meeting.

Journalist were told that EL-Rufa’i, the gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the APC, was to meet with some party chieftains from Zaria and Sabongari at the Kongo Conference Hotel and Teejay Palace Hotel, but the disagreement that ensued over a yet to be identified matter stalled the meeting.

According to a source, “the meetings ended up unceremoniously due to interruption of party loyalists as a result of leadership crisis at both wards and local government levels. At the Kongo Conference Hotel, glasses of the sliding doors were broken by members who chanted offensive slogans. Also at Teejay Palace, there was a physical combat among party stalwarts who protested the presence of one of the party executive members in the meeting.”

2015: PDP NWC Zone Akwa-Ibom Governorship For Eket Senatorial District

The ruling People’s Democratic Party National Working Committee Wednesday zoned the governorship position in the state to the Eket Senatorial Zone of the state.

Olisa Metuh, the Party’s National Publicity Secretary in a statement made available to NewsWireNGR said after a review of the decision of the enlarged State Executive Committee of Akwa-Ibom state, the National Working committee (NWC) has accepted and fully endorsed the decision to zone the Akwa-Ibom state governorship position to Eket Senatorial Zone.

Accordingly, the NWC expects that only aspirants from Eket Senatorial Zone will present themselves for the governorship primary election in the state.

In the spirit of internal democracy, the NWC promises that there will be free, fair and transparent congresses. Aspirants from Eket Senatorial Zone are therefore encouraged to fully participate in the process, Metuh concluded.

Breaking: Boko Haram Takes Over Another Nigerian Town In Borno, Terrorists Head Towards Mubi – Eyewitness

Reports from the north – eastern Nigeria  says that Boko Haram Islamic sect, have taken over a Nigerian town in Borno State Nigeria.

Eyewitnesses tell BBC Hausa Service that the militants have taken over Uba town in Borno and are headed towards Mubi in Adamawa Nigeria.

Garin Local Government Area of Uba is located between the border of Borno and Adamawa states . Already, many people are said to have been killed and others injured during the onslaught by the sect .

There are no details on the number of people injured according to the BBC Hausa .  Eyewitness say gunshots and explosion rocked the entire community all through the night before the eventual take over of the community by the group.

After taking over control of Uba town villagers say the Boko Haram terrorists are now headed towards Mararbar Mubi in Adamawa.

Mubi residents are running out of their homes following reports that the insurgents are headed their way .

A residents told the BBC that he saw several people running  in their numbers, fleeing the Adamawa community.

The Federal Government of Nigeria had announced a ceasefire agreement with the Boko Haram sect weeks ago. Since the supposed agreement claimed by government, there has been a surge of violence in the northeast with kidnappings of young girls in the region.

The announcement came at the end of a meeting between the Nigerian and Cameroonian armed forces where both sides decided on collaboration in communication, intelligence sharing, tactical partnerships and handling of internally displaced said Nigeria’s Military Chief.

“A ceasefire agreement has been reached between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad.”

“I have accordingly directed the service chiefs to ensure immediate compliance with this development in the field, Air Chief Marshal Badeh said.

But with the current take over of nigerian communities and abductions, questions arises over the sincerity whether an agreement was reached by security analyst who insists the government is obviously speaking to a different group and not the sect.

Boko Haram: IGP Says 30 Policemen Still Missing

Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr Suleiman Abba, on Tuesday said 30 policemen were still missing, more than two months after Boko Haram terrorists attacked their training facility in Gwoza in Borno state.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Emmanuel Ojukwu had said thirty five police officers were declared missing following the deadly attack by suspected Boko Haram fighters on the Mobile Police Training School, Gwoza, on August 23.

The IGP said “Last week we were able to identify that one of the missing officers in Gwoza had gone back to his base this time around. So, there can still be some that are in their homes, perhaps refusing to even report to anyone that they are around because of the trauma they went through.

“Or they could still be among the families in some of the villages around there. It is still our hope that they are alive and that they will come out alive” he said.

“Following the attack launched by insurgents on the Gwoza Training camp of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Suleiman Abba has since ordered the tightening of security around all police facilities in the country in addition to efforts made to further protect the lives of all people in Nigeria and their properties,”

“It will be recalled that a ferocious attack earlier launched on the Training camp by insurgents on 7th August, 2014 was repelled by the Police.

“On 20th August, 2014, the attackers launched a fresh offensive that lasted for several hours where the policemen on duty engaged them in a fierce battle.

“The search and rescue party launched immediately has located and brought to safety all Police officers in the Training College at the time of attack.

“So far, thirty-five policemen who are still missing from the facility as a result of the latest attack are being searched for with very promising prospect of locating them.

“While enjoining all citizens to remain calm and join hands with the security forces in the collective fight against insurgency, the IGP restates his determination to work closely with other security agencies to stem the tide of terrorism in the country,” the statement read.

NLC Vice-President Berates Obasanjo, Buhari On Muslim-Muslim Ticket Argument

The vice-president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Issa Aremu, has berated former Head of State and a presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari  and Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo over the muslim-muslim or christian-christian presidential ticket row.

Areeu said it was wrong for Buhari to have said that he would not mind a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket and that it was inappropriate for Obasanjo to have warned against a muslim-muslim ticket.

Aremu spoke in an interview with journalists during the 26th Annual National Education Conference of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria and the Nigeria Textile, Garment and Tailoring Employers’ Association in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday.

He said that religion should not be a consideration or a factor in choosing candidates in the 2015 elections noting that using religion as a basis for choosing candidates could lead to further problem as there are different groups or sects in Islam and Christianity.

“It is wrong for both former President Olusegun Obasanjo and General Muhammadu Buhari to have mentioned Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket for the 2015 presidential elections. It is a wrong mindset, just like Obasanjo was wrong to say we need Muslim-Christian balance. The balance Nigeria is looking for is good governance balance. We are looking for a president as defined in Nigeria’s Constitution regardless of religious background, who is willing to guarantee the welfare and security of Nigerians.

“The problem of their age as well as the bankruptcy of the age of their ideas; modern Nigerians are ordinary people who settle everywhere to work anywhere. For example the way Obasanjo became head of state in the unfortunate coup of 1976 nobody looked at religious issue, we just moved on as he was the next in command to the late General Murtala Mohammed.”

“If it were today’s Nigeria people would be reading double meaning into it and they would put the country in jeopardy. In this country, the late Moshood Abiola never saw his presidential ticket with that of Baba Gana Kingibe as Muslim-Muslim stuff and the whole country voted for them. In fact, Abiola had votes almost 90 percent in largely Christian dominated area of Akwa Ibom State. People followed Abiola because of his avid commitment to good governance and ability to say farewell to poverty. For me that is the issue and I want to say let’s change the debate from that unhelpful narrow religious divide to serious issue of constitution.

“The two Generals’ comments clearly show lack of civility. Whoever will drive our democracy must be strong civilians who have civil outlook. We are tired of these Generals who will heat up the polity. Their language is not civil. No serious civilian will be talking of North-South candidates or Muslim-Christian candidates. Civilians fought for our independence for us, not soldiers. So if civilians fought for independence for us they should run it for us.”
