Actor Charlie Sheen, Former Star Of ‘Two And A Half Men,’ Confirms He Is HIV Positive

Rumours circulating about a Hollywood actor who was HIV positive and have possibly infected his numerous sexual partners or put them at risk by not informing them of his status.

In his interview on the ‘Today’ show with Matt Lauer, he discusses how he’d known about his diagnosis for about four years after suffering headaches and sweating.

He started off saying “I am here to admit that I am in fact HIV positive. I have to put a stop to this barrage of attacks and sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me that threaten the health of so many others. [It] couldn’t be farther from the truth. I have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people, and hopefully with what we’re doing today, others may come forward sand say, ‘Thanks, Charlie. Thanks for kicking the door open.”

He added “[I was diagnosed] based on this series of cluster headaches and insane migraines and sweating the bed, completely drenched two, three nights in a row, that I was emergency hospitalized. I thought I had a brain tumor. I thought it was over. After a battery of tests and spinal taps, all that crap, they walked in the room and said, ‘Boom. Here’s what’s going on.’ It’s a hard three letters to absorb. It’s a turning point in one’s life.”

Dokpesi Makes U-Turn Says He Never Said PDP Lost By Fielding Jonathan

The Organising Committee Chairman of the recently concluded Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, national conference, Chief Raymond Dokpesi has debunked media reports claiming he apologised for the alleged misrule of the party.

The Chairman emeritus of Daar Communications, owners of African Independent Television (AIT)/Raypower FM station, had been in the news for saying that PDP made the mistake of fielding former president, Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate in the March 28 presidential election.

He was also quoted to have apologised for the misrule of the PDP in the last 16 years.

But in a statement he personally signed, Dokpesi debunked the reports, saying he was “not only an unrepentant admirer, supporter and die hard follower of Jonathan but, indeed, a party member.”

According to the statement, “What I said at the media briefing was that PDP governments were run by human beings who are not perfect and may have made mistakes. I cited the example of the party’s zoning agreement nationwide, which buckled in the face of incumbents who had preferred and pliant candidates and went on to subvert the people’s choice on who to represent them leading to defeats at the polls.

“I tendered an apology to PDP members nationwide for actions like that,” he stated.

Dokpesi said he was not ignorant of the tactics of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to “undo the PDP and set its members against one another in order to pave way for one party system,” adding that “such efforts would not see the light of the day.”

Rwandan Parliament Of Mainly Paul Kagame’s Supporters Vote To Extend President’s Rule

Rwanda’s lower house of parliament voted on Thursday to allow President Paul Kagame to extend his rule beyond a second term that ends in 2017 and possibly stay on until 2034, a move opposed by the United States and other aid donors.

Draft amendments to the constitution approved by the lower house still have to be backed by the upper house and also put to a referendum, but are not expected to stumble at either stage.

After debates on Wednesday and Thursday, lawmakers agreed that presidential terms be cut to five years from seven with a limit of two terms, but an exception has been made for Kagame.

Parliament, dominated by Kagame’s allies and supporters, debated the issue after a petition calling for changes was signed by 3.7 million supporters of the rebel-turned-president who is credited with rebuilding Rwanda after the 1994 genocide.

Rwanda’s main but tiny opposition, the Democratic Green Party, tried to block the amendment to extend Kagame’s term, but a court rejected the bid. Critics say the government stifles opposition politicians and media, a charge officials deny.

Speaker of the 80-seat lower house, Donatille Mukabalisa, said Article 172 of the amended constitution was supported by all 75 lawmakers present and meant Kagame could stay on until 2034. “No law stops him,” she told a news conference.

Kagame has not said explicitly he wants to run again but has said he is open to persuasion.

“This Is No Military Rule” – Buhari Says Corrupt Suspects Are Innocent Until Proven Guilty

President Muhammadu Buhari monday in Abuja said his administration would give full regard to due process and the rule of law in the prosecution of its war against corruption, adding that corruption suspects are innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said the president spoke when a delegation from the Foursquare Gospel Church visited him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The president restated his commitment to recovering stolen funds, but stressed that the present administration’s efforts in this regard would be fully within the ambit of the law.

“Under military rule, people could be arrested and held on the basis of suspicion. But in a true democracy, anyone accused of an offence must be presumed innocent till pronounced guilty by a court of law,” the president said.

Buhari added that his administration was therefore diligently building up its case against those accused of stealing government funds, getting the necessary evidence and facts, before formal charges are brought against them.

He congratulated the Foursquare Church in Nigeria on its 60th anniversary convention which was concluded on Sunday.

In his remarks, the General Overseer of the church, Reverend Felix Meduoye lauded the Buhari administration for its positive strides in the war against corruption and the insurgency.

Buhari Launches 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem With A Donation Of N10 Million

President Muhammadu Buhari monday in Abuja said Nigerians and visitors to the country might be required to wear the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem as pass for entry into all government establishments.

Buhar stated this at the launch of the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He said the practice was necessary to recognise the feats recorded by the nation’s living and fallen heroes in keeping the country together since independence.

He announced a donation of N10 million in support of the cause.
The president said Nigeria owed her survival as a country to the efforts of veterans, saying the country had weathered through many storms which ordinarily should have prompted a disintegration.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; former Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; and Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed and a host of ministers.

Speaking at the event, Buhari said: “Today’s occasion reminds us of the need to appreciate the noble contributions of our fallen heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice to maintain national and international peace and security.

“Our nation has recently celebrated 55 years of political independence and continues to remain as one indivisible entity despite several grievous challenges. Since independence, Nigeria has witnessed a lot of internal strife, survived a civil war and has remained united.

Only N140 billion Was Appropriated For Subsidy Payment And It Has Been Exhausted Says Presidency

Nigerians continue to groan due to the fuel queues and economic activities grounded nationwide, also the pump price of petrol has skyrocketed in some major cities across the country, selling above the government stipulated rate of N87 per litre.

This is just as fuel queues in Abuja grew worse, crippling commercial activities in the city.

As at yesterday, the commodity was selling between N300 and N400 per litre at the black market, even as many filling stations remained shut.

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the National Assembly to approve the payment of their N413 billion claims, it was learnt yesterday.

The payment is believed to be the key to ending the crippling petrol scarcity in many cities.

Petrol is being sold for between N100 and N400 per litre in various parts of the country. Queues are long at filling stations where there is fuel. Many others are shut for lack of supplies.

A Presidency source tells TheNation last night that “only about N140 billion was appropriated for subsidy payment in the current budget and it has been exhausted”.

“Out of respect for the parliament, the President insisted that the right thing must be done by seeking approval from the National Assembly before an additional kobo is paid in excess of what the budget makes provision for.

“This is a clear departure from the past, when extra-budgetary expenditure was the norm.”

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA), Media, to the President, Mallam Garba Shehu, noted that the President “is desirous to end the petrol scarcity. But he insists that due process must be followed.”

Marketers are hopeful that if the N413 billion subsidy cash is disbursed, the fuel scarcity will be over.

But they also complained of lack of foreign exchange to facilitate importation of products.

A marketer last night said: “We cannot access dollar or pound sterling to import. The banks have refused to give us letters of credit because they don’t have confidence that we will pay back. It is only the NNPC that imports and what they import is grossly inadequate.

“The issue is that many independent depots and retail outlets don’t have products because the NNPC only gives product to marketers accredited as bulk buyers.

“The fuel marketing arm of the oil industry is gradually collapsing because most of the oil marketing firms currently operate at about 30 per cent capacity utilisation. Some of our depots that load around 150 trucks daily have dropped to 40 trucks daily.

“If the current supply situation is not addressed quickly, the Yuletide will be celebrated without fuel, and you know the implication.”

The NNPC’s Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, said the Corporation trucked out 25,042,686 litres of premium motor spirit (PMS) to various parts of the country between last Saturday and Sunday..

According to the data made available by the NNPC spokesman, which showed the depots from where the fuel was loaded, companies that took delivery of the product, the number of the vehicle that lifted the product and the quantity lifted, 615 filling stations got 25,042,686 litres. They include majors, such as Total, Mobil, Oando, MRS, Conoil and Forte Oil. The NNPC Retail and independents, including NIPCO and Eterna, among many others, especially in Gombe, also got supplies.

Suleja depot loaded 7,178,613 litres for 179 stations, Kaduna depot 2,470 490 litres for 59 stations, Kano 4,930,847 litres for 107 filling stations, Minna depot 224,986 litres for six stations, Gusau 2,311 951 litres (60 stations), and Satellite depot, which feeds Lagos State, 2,164,940 (63 stations).

Others include Ilorin depot 303,000 litres (nine stations), Ore 110,989 litres (three stations), Ibadan depot, 766,007 (21 stations), Gombe area, which has the highest number of independent stations got 3,662,893 litres (78 stations) and Aba depot, 917,970 litres (30 filling stations).

“Nigeria Remains One Nation, Despite The Civil War” – Buhari Tells Pro-Biafra Agitators

Despite going through hard times including a civil war, Nigeria remains an indivisible nation with the citizens pushing for a common interest, President Muhammadu Buhari has said.

The president’s remarks came amid the recent protests by the pro-Biafra groups in some parts of the South-East and South- South.

Speaking during the launching of the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and celebration yesterday, Buhari explained that Nigerians have resolved to live as one and a united people.

The president at the ceremony, which held inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, announced a donation of N10 million to the Nigerian Legion.

He called on all Nigerians to appreciate the noble contributions of the nation’s fallen heroes whom he said paid the supreme sacrifice to maintain national and international peace and security.

Buhari said that the nation had recently celebrated 55 years of political independence and continued to remain as one indivisible entity despite several challenges. He said: “Since independence, Nigeria has witnessed a lot of internal strife, survived a civil war and has remained united. This feat achieved by the country is an eloquent testimony to the determination of our citizens to remain as one people.

“The sacrifices of our fallen heroes, heroines, and veterans who rose up to the security challenges cannot go un-noticed.” While noting that the theme of this year’s celebration: “Motivating the Nigerian Armed Forces for Effective Service Delivery” was very apt, he saluted the courage and sacrifices of men and women of the Armed Forces in grappling with the wave of terrorism, oil theft and piracy in some parts of our country.

According to him, “They have displayed unalloyed loyalty and commitment to Nigeria. In their arduous task to keep Nigeria safe and united, some of these gallant officers and men lost their lives. To them, we pay special tribute and pray for the repose of their souls.

“Fellow countrymen and women, consider the situation and conditions under which they died or suffered physical incapacitation. ” It behoves on us who are living beneficiaries of their sacrifice to contribute towards the welfare and sustenance of their dependants.
Our modest effort will go a long way to demonstrate our depth of gratitude and ameliorate their present condition.”

He said that the Nigerian Legion, which is the umbrella body of the veterans, has continued to contribute to the growth and development of the country.
Buhari commended the Legionnaires for their steadfastness, perseverance and exemplary conduct. He added that the members of the body have continued even in retirement to provide excellent services in all spheres of our national life. He called on well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organisations to lend their support to the worthy initiative.

The president said the emblem launch was meant to appeal to all Nigerians to generously support the Nigerian Legion. While encouraging Nigerians to buy the emblem, Buhari announced that it would soon become a requirement for access into government establishments for staff and visitors.

He gave an assurance that the Federal Government would continue to show commitment in addressing the challenges facing veterans. Minister of Defence, Brig.-Gen. Muhammad Dan-Ali, described the event as a unique one coming at a time when the nation was committing much to the anti-terrorism war.

The event was attended by all the newly inaugurated ministers and the National Security Adviser (NSA).

APC Orders Nigerian Banks To Stop Granting Loans To Nyesom Wike

The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has warned banks to shun loan requests by Governor Nyesom Wike.

The Chairman, Rivers APC, Chief Davies Ikanya, who issued this warning while briefing newsmen on Monday in Port Harcourt, said any bank that gave loans to the governor would be working against the interest of the state.

Ikanya cautioned that such a bank would be seen as collaborating with Wike to mismanage the economy of the state.

“Let me warn all the banks not to give Nyesom Wike loans. But if they give him loans, that means that they are collaborating with the governor to take money belonging to Rivers people,” he said.

Ikanya also accused Wike of using the resources of the state to fund the Peoples Democratic Party at the national level, adding that the alleged frequent visits of some PDP chieftains to the state were indicative that funds belonging to the state were being used in sponsoring the PDP.

He lamented the level of insecurity in the state, adding that despite the efforts of the state Police Commissioner to curb the menace of armed robbery, kidnapping and cultism, crime rate was still on the high side.

The state APC chairman described as false the claim that Wike provided 62 security vehicles for security agencies in the state.

“For more than five months since Wike took over the governorship position, he has not assisted the police, the navy and other security agencies.

“Wike is not doing anything on security. We don’t believe that Wike actually gave 62 vehicles to the police and other security agencies in the state,” Ikanya said.

Reacting, the State Assistant Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, said Wike had been able to complete some abandoned projects with the loans he took.

Pointing out that the governor has been following due process in taking loans, Nwanosike added that with the economic situation in the state, it was wrong for the APC to criticise Wike’s action.

“I don’t see any reason why the banks will refuse to give the governor loans to develop our state. Governor Wike has ensured that workers’ salaries and pensions for pensioners were paid.

“He has completed some abandoned projects. Even as we speak, the governor has begun the rehabilitation of public secondary schools and Rivers people are happy about it,” he added.

On security, Nwanosike insisted that contrary to the claim by the APC, the governor donated 62 vehicles to the police and other security agencies in the state.

He recalled that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, was in Port Harcourt to inaugurate the vehicles, saying, “The APC in the state is built on falsehood and, as such, we are not bothered by their tantrums.”

Save Nigeria Group Gives Buhari 72 Hours Ultimatum To Sack CCT Chairman Over N10m Bribery Scandal

The Save Nigeria Group, SNG, Monday, vowed to mobilise Nigerians for “a torrential protest march”, should President Muhammadu Buhari, fail to sack the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, Justice Danladi Umar, within the next 72 hours.

The group, at a press conference it held in Abuja yesterday, said it was satisfied that Justice Umar has questions to answer over allegation that he demanded N10million bribe to quash ?criminal case involving a retired Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Rasheed A. Taiwo.

Vanguard reports that SNG, in a statement that was signed by its National Coordinator, Barrister Benedict Ezeagu,? asked President Buhari to without further delay, liaise ?with the leadership of the National Assembly to effect the formal removal of Umar as CCT chairman, in accordance with the constitutional provisions.

According to the group, “This will ?no doubt be a litmus test of President Buhari’s avowed anti-corruption stance”, saying “the integrity of our judicial process and criminal justice system cannot be mortgaged on the whims and caprices of a few mischievous political interest”.

Senator Shehu Sani Slams Northerners For Using Late Sardauna’s Name For Political Gains

Senator representing Kaduna Central District under the umbrella of All Progressives Congress (APC), Shehu Sani says the name of the late Sardauna of Sokoto has come under use for political gains and very little to preserve his legacies.

On Monday, Sani visited Ali Sarki, the 89-year-old official driver of the Premier of Northern Nigeria and the Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and expressed worry over the neglect of the driver by the 19 northern State governments according to DailyTrust report.

Senator Sani, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign and Domestic Affairs, and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, said associates of quality politicians like the Sardauna, Akintola, Azikiwe, Awolowo, and others, should not be neglected by governments of the day but should rather be accorded with due honour after serving the Premier and the region.

He lamented that instead of Nigerians, particularly, Northerners, to preserve Sir Ahmadu Bello’s legacy for prosperity, they are busy using his name for cheap political gains.

Sani said, “Look at Sir Ahmadu Bello’s driver, Ali Sarki Mota, he drove Sardauna to every official function, he witnessed his killing by soldiers, but today, at 89 years old, he is being neglected by governments of the region.

“Driving is a noble profession, and Alhaji Ali did it to the best of his knowledge by serving Sardauna to the best of his ability and love for the profession.
