Biography
Chinyere Emmanuel Igwe is a Nigerian politician currently serving as the Commissioner of Urban Development in Rivers State.
He was born on 18 September 1965. Chinyere is 58 years as of 2023.
The Rivers State commissioner was formerly a member of the house of Representatives.
Career
Chinyere started his political career in Rivers State as a Councilor of the Port Harcourt City Legislative Assembly in 1991
Later he became a member of the Rivers State Government Projects Monitoring Committee from 2000 to 2002.
In 2002, Chinyere was appointed as the Chairman Port Harcourt City Local Government Caretaker Committee—a position he held till 2004.
He was appointed as a member of the Governing Council of the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDAN) in 2004
Chinyere was then elected into the Federal House of Representatives to represent Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency from 2007 until 2011
After his tenure as a lawmaker, he was appointed as the Commissioner For Urban Development & Physical Planning in 2015

Controversy
The Rivers State Police Command reportedly arrested Chinyere on the 24th of February 2023 in Rivers state.
The former lawmaker was caught with foreign currency summing to 498,100 USD inside a bag in his car and a list of how the money would be distributed.
It was alleged that the money was given to Chinyere by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party. The money was believed to be meant for vote buying in the forthcoming election in Nigeria.
