Christian Atsu Twasam is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Turkish Süper Lig club Hatayspor and the Ghanaian national team.

He was born on 10 January 1992.

The winger is known for his attacking ability and can also be deployed as an attacking midfielder.

Education

Atsu attended Feyenoord Football Academy at Gomoa Fetteh, in the Central Region of Ghana 

Club career

After leaving Ghana, Atsu was scouted by the Portuguese team Porto at 17. He received a call-up to the senior team by the first-team manager André Villas-Boas

Later he was sent on loan to Rio Ave for the 2011–12 season. He then returned to Porto after the season, where he won the national championship for three consecutive seasons.

In 2013, Atsu signed a five-year contract with Chelsea for a reported fee of £3.5 million and was immediately loaned to Vitesse Arnhem of the Netherlands for the remainder of the 2013-14 campaign.

Atsu appeared in 30 matches and found the net five times while playing for the Dutch club. The club ended the league in 6th place and secured a spot in the playoffs.

On 13 August 2014, Atsu joined fellow Premier League club Everton on loan until the end of the 2014–15 season.

After his stint at Everton, Atsu was loaned to the newly promoted Premier League team Bournemouth in 2015. He then moved to Málaga on loan later.

Still on the source to get playing time, Atsu joined Newcastle on a one-year loan deal with an option to buy clause in the contract.

In May 2017, Atsu signed a four-year deal to join Newcastle for £6.2 million from Chelsea.

Atsu left Newcastle in 2021 to join Al-Raed.

After he left Al-Raed, Atsu agreed to a one-year contract with Hatayspor, a club in the Turkish top-flight league, the Süper Lig, on September 6, 2022. The agreement includes the option for an extension of another year.

Relationship

Christian Atsu is married to Marie-Claire Rupio, and they have three children.
