Biography
Patrick Okedinachi Utomi, popularly called Pat Utomi, is a political economy and management expert and a professor at Lagos Business School.
Pat, a native of Oshimili North Local Government, Delta State, was born in Kaduna on February 6, 1956.
He is the founder of the Centre for Value in Leadership (CVL) and the political party, African Democratic Congress.
Professor Pat Utomi has served in various capacities both in the public and private sectors.
He is a former presidential candidate and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria.
Education
Pat attended St. Thomas, Kano and Our Lady of Fatima, Gusau before proceeding to Christ the King College, Onitsha for part of his secondary education before completing it at Loyola College, Ibadan at age 15.
He headed to the Federal School of Arts and Science before enrolling for tertiary education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he bagged a degree in Mass Communication.
After graduating from the University of Nigeria, he headed to Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA, where he got his PhD. MPA, and MA.
In addition, Pat has been a scholar-in-residence at the Harvard Business School and the American University in Washington, D.C
Career
Within a few months of his return to Nigeria from Bloomington, Indiana, United States, Pat got enlisted by the former vice-president Alex Ekwueme to provide consultancy services on some public policy papers.
Later, former president Shehu Shagari appointed him as Special Assistant a position he maintained until the 1983 coup which truncated the Second Republic.
After the end of the Second Republic, Pat worked with Utomapp Holdings Limited as the chairman/chief executive officer and later with Volkswagen Nigeria Lagos as assistant general manager, corporate affairs
Pat has also served in various other capacities, which include Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Poise Nigeria Limited, Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), and the National Council of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria,
In 2003, Pat was appointed the professor of Social and Political Economy Environment of Business and Entrepreneurship at Lagos Business School
Utomi has also served as the vice-chairman, Platinum–Habib Bank
Pat has also had some attempts to assume political office after his first sojourn, but to no success.
In 2011, he made a failed attempt at the position of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Later in 2019, he was declared the Delta State governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress. The national working committee of the All Progressive Congress overturned the declaration and declared Chief Great Ogboru as its candidate.
In 2022, he stepped down for Peter Obi to emerge as the presidential aspirant of the Labor Party
Marriage
Professor Pat is married to Dr Ifeoma, a Consultant Orthodontist at LUTH.
Their number of children has not been disclosed to the public.

Achievement
In 1996, Utomi was a scholar-in-residence at American University in Washington, DC, and a research associate at Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts.
Utomi is also a member of a number of professional organisations. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, IOD, Nigeria Economic Summit Group, and Nigeria Economic Society.
He also collaborated with other stakeholders to establish Transparency in Nigeria, the Centre for Values in Leadership, the Concerned Professionals, and the Restoration Group.
Pat has had the privilege of speaking on various platforms about policy formation, growth economics, comparative development, and leadership.
