Who is Aisha Buhari?

The second wife of Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari, is no one else but Aisha Halima Buhari.

Aisha’s parents, whose names remain unknown, gave birth to her on the 17th of February, 1971. Today she’s 52 years old (in 2022).

She hails from the northeastern part of the country, Adamawa state. Her dad was a civil engineer, while her granddad, named Alhaji Muhammadu Ribadu, was Nigeria’s first minister of Defence. Then her mum came from the descendants of the renowned farmers, the Ankali family.

If you’ve ever heard of Future Assured, Aisha Buhari is the brain behind it. The institute advocates for the well-being and health of children and women. 

Education

Aisha did her primary and secondary education in her hometown. Today, she’s bagged the following certificates:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in public administration from Ambrose Alli University (AAU).
  • She earned a master’s degree in international affairs and strategic studies from the Nigerian Defense Academy in Kaduna.
  • A diploma degree in beauty therapy from the Carlton Institute of Beauty Therapy in Windsor, US.
  • Post-graduate diploma degree in cosmetology & beauty from the academy Esthetique beauty institute of France.

Aisha Buhari’s Marriage and Children

At the age of 18, she got married to Muhammadu Buhari on the 2nd of December, 1989 and the duo has five children together, namely:

  • Halima
  • Zahra
  • Hanan
  • Amina
  • Yusuf (only son)

Aisha Buhari’s businesses

The first lady is an avid lover of everything related to beauty and cosmetics. She runs the Hanzy spa and Hanzy beauty institute in Kaduna and Abuja respectively.

However, her focus changed when her husband became the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, in 2015.

Controversies

  • In October 2019, Mamman Daura’s daughter, Fatima accused the first lady of verbally abusing her. Fatima gave the press a video of Aisha ranting in the presidential villa. She claimed Aisha was attacking her family as well.
  • Aisha according to reports ignored several calls by Abike Dabiri-Erewa to join President Muhammadu Buhari on the podium to present the All Progressives Congress (APC) victory flag to Bola Tinubu, winner of the party’s 2023 presidential primary election.
