Nigerian actor and writer Williams Uchemba, has shared his thoughts on how people should respond to religious leaders and other people who indirectly support domestic abuse.

The actor shared this via his verified Instagram page on April 9, 2022.

In his post, he explains that if a religious leader advises the victim to go back home to the abuser, the victim should cut ties with that place of worship.

He also added that the leader who gave the advice also needs psychological therapy for not recognizing the origin of the problem.

His post reads “If you are being abused through domestic violence And you take the case to your pastor/imam/leader, and he asks you to go back to the house where your abuser is, change Church.

“Cos that your leader needs therapy too. Because not recognizing that the issue is not from you but the man/woman that is the abuser is a major problem”.

He also added he will use his money to have an abuser arrested if someone close to him is abused.

“And God help you if someone I know and care about comes to me and tells me they have been abused by you( whether physically or sexually or any kind).

“Thank God I have money cos I will make sure I use my last money to send you to jail.” he wrote.

In the caption, Williams finally concluded with a statement in pidgin that translates to “it’s only a living person that can talk about forgiveness”

“If you are going through domestic abuse/ violence of any kind leave the house first. Na person why day alive day discuss forgiveness.”
