Oscar Slap: Netflix and Sony pause all Will Smith related projects

American Actor and rapper Willard Carroll Smith II, stage name ‘Will Smith’ is still facing the consequences of his actions at the 94th Academy Awards, Oscars for short. 

On March 28, 2022, Will physically attacked Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife’s autoimmune disease, alopecia, with a G.I Jane remark. 

Chris Rock however did not press charges, but spoke about the matter briefly at his event the next weekend, stating it will be “serious and funny” when he decides to formally address the matter. 

Will Smith however did tender a public apology via most of his social media accounts.

Following the attack on Chris Rock, Will smith has also resigned from the Oscars Academy, which means he cannot vote other colleagues in the future, but he can still be nominated. 

The Academy did accept his resignation, but revealed it will hold a hearing on April 18, 2022, to determine the next steps to take regarding Will Smith’s behavior at the Oscars.

The actor was set to star in Netflix’s “Fast and Loose”, a film based on a crime boss who loses his memory after an attack and pieces clues together to realize he’s been leading a double life.

This project has reportedly been placed on hold till further notice, following Will’s behavior at the Oscars. 

He was also set to appear in Sony’s “Bad Boys 4” which reportedly, will also be placed on hold, as well as other Will Smith related projects in pre-production.
