Hollywood actor, Willard Smith has been banned in-person and virtually from the Oscar Academy Awards for a decade, following his attack on Chris Rock at the recent Awards show.

This is coming after board members of the Academy held a meeting on April 8, 2022, to determine the disciplinary action to be taken against Will, following the events of March 27.

In a statement from Academy President David Rubin and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson, they apologized for not addressing the problem earlier on in the telecast.

They also revealed they are using this situation to set an example for viewers and guests of the Academy family all around the world.

The board said “During our telecast, we did not adequately address the situation in the room. For this, we are sorry.

“This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short—unprepared for the unprecedented.

“This action we are taking today in response to Will Smith’s behavior is a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the Academy.

“We also hope this can begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted.”

Will Smith has chosen to accept this decision as he already stated so in an apology statement just days after the on-stage altercation at the Oscars.
