APC National Women President - NewsWireNGR

A 26-year-old man, Ameer Sarkee, has disclosed why he is contesting for the position of National Women Leader in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Kano based textile material seller said a man is the one who is supposed to be in charge of women affairs at all times.

Meanwhile, the young man had already contested for the position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Women Leader in Kano in 2019 but lost.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Ameer said; “Even when I was younger, anytime I see a woman who needs help, I try to assist her. Maybe to carry load or help to buy something. These are some of the things that prompted and made me feel I deserve the women leader position.

“Some people are asking why a man would contest for women leader, the answer I usually give them is that God destined men to guide the affair of women. So it is not a bad thing for me to lead women, especially considering that I have good intentions and plan for them.

The unmarried aspirant also noted that if he wins, he will ensure women have more voice and representations at all levels of the government.

He however noted that his biggest challenge is getting the acceptance of the party women.

“At the same time, I get lots of encouragement and support. Even on Sunday, some women groups met with me on my ambition and also some have been sending support messages on social media”.
