The Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigerian (AMEN), Rev. Fr Ejike Mbaka, has renounced his support for the Spanish football club, Barcelona, and instead pitched his tent with Paris Saint-Germain, PSG, in response to Lionel Messi’s move.

Although Rev. Fr Mbaka did not categorically note whether he was a fan of Barcelona or would be dumping the club, the insinuation was noted when he said, “wherever he (Messi) goes, we will go”.

The cleric while addressing his church members on Saturday lamented how the Argentine footballer’s career in the Catalan club came to an end.

He however promised that “whichever club he joins, we will support”’

According to Mbaka, “Just like Messi, now that he had suffered for Barcelona, they have said that sustaining his contract is difficult, that they can’t maintain him.

“Messi is a gift to the football universe in our generation. Everywhere he goes, the same goodness will follow him. Wherever he goes, we will go.

“We believe in his football talent, we believe in his natural gift, what he does with the ball with his leg”.

He said he had hoped to continue at the club after agreeing to a 50% pay cut but La Liga rules meant he could no longer continue.

This year, my family and I were convinced we were going to stay at home, that’s what we all wanted more than anything,” said Messi.

“We’d always made this our own, we were at home. We thought we would be staying here in Barcelona. But today, we have to say goodbye to all of this.

“I did everything possible and the club, Laporta, they couldn’t do it because of La Liga.

“I’ve heard things said about me, that I didn’t want to continue, but on my life, we did everything we could because I wanted to stay.

“Last year, I didn’t want to stay and I said it; this year, I wanted to stay and we couldn’t.”
