Cross River State NLC Chairman has been kidnapped

Unknown gunmen have abducted the Cross River State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ben Ukpekpi in his home.

NewsWireNGR gathers that this is the second time he has been abducted in the past 16 months.

The Vice Chairman of the NLC in the State,Comrade Lawrence Achuta, confirmed the kidnapping and added that he was abducted in front of his house at the Cross River State Property Investment Limited (CROSPIL) an extate for civil servants located in Akpabuyo local government area,about twenty minutes drive from Calabar the Cross River State Capital.

Achuta called for the immediate release of the Chairman, wondering what his offense could be that kidnappers find him perfect for their illegal business.

He called on security agencies to swing into action and ensure that Comrade Ukpepi is released unhurt.

The eldest son of the abducted chairman Frank-Ben Ukpepi said his father was kidnapped infront of his house by four armed men and a fierce looking lady with an Audi Car.

Frank-Ben said he followed them before they shot at his four tyres and took him to a waiting boat at the Esuk Ekpo Eyo beach, some minutes drive from the estate.

The Cross River State Police Command has also confirmed the kidnapping.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo,said the Commissioner of police,Sikiru Akande has deployed the anti kidnapping and Anti Cultism units of the police for immediate action to ensure the release of the labour leader release.
