Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), played host to Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari at his Bourdillon residence in the Ikoyi area of Lagos on Saturday.

According to Sunday Dare, spokesman of Tinubu, the president’s wife visited the notable politician to commiserate with him over the death of Haliru Dantoro, emir of Borgu kingdom in Niger state.

Dare said the former governor of Lagos commended Buhari’s wife, who was accompanied by the wives of different governors, “on her Style and commitment to Nigeria”.

Tinubu is known to be very close to the late monarch, who gave him his famous traditional title –‘Jagaban Borgu’ – in 2006. Both men were members of the upper chamber of the national assembly between 1992 and 1993.

Back in 2006 when the APC leader was turbaned, Dantoro spoke on his relationship with Tinubu. “It was in the days of the ill-fated third republic, in the fateful year of 1992 that my path first crossed that of His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he had said.

“We were both elected into the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he as an SDP Senator and I on the platform of the NRC. “Though from opposing sides of the political divide, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and I, gradually discovered that our positions on issues of burning national importance increasingly propelled both of us and few other like-minded patriots in the same political direction…

He is a die-hard workaholic.” Tinubu was among the dignitaries who attended the burial of Dantoro.

At the ceremony he said: “He was a very close friend and compatriot, and his death is a very personal loss to me.

Particularly, it was very painful when I saw him on Wednesday; he was looking radiant and ready to come back home.”
