A female suicide bomber on Wednesday afternoon detonated explosives within the Federal College of Education, Kontagora, Niger State, but the Police in the state said she died in the blast and only succeeded in injuring several students.
The blast occurred at exactly 12.15pm around the institution’s library as students busied themselves with schoolwork at the scene. The heavy sound of the blast resulted in confusion as students, lecturers and staff of the institution scampered to safety.
A student of the institution, Saratu Abdullahi, who spoke with Huhuonline.com on the phone, said fear has gripped everyone around the school and its host town.
She said it is not yet known if another person died with the suicide bomber but that many injuries have been confirmed.
“As I speak with you now, the school has been shut and police and securitymen are everywhere,” Abdullahi said, adding that she only sustained some injury while running for her life.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, ASP Ibrahim Gambari, confirmed the incident but said they were yet to get full details of the incident.
This fresh bombing is coming barely 48 hours after 48 students of the Government Science and Technical College in Potiskum, Yobe State were killed by a suicide bomber while they were waiting for an address by the school’s principal at the assembly ground on Monday.
Also, over 20 people were killed in Biu, Yobe State as a bomb ripped through a procession by Shia Muslims, celebrating the Ashura Festival.
