Lagos LP Denounces Saturday’s National Convention

The Lagos state chapter of the Labour Party have denounced the national convention of the party which is scheduled to hold on saturday, October 11, 2014 in Akure the Ondo state capital.

This was made known in a statement signed by the publicity secretary, Mr Tony Okorocha.

The statement read “A list of party delegates submitted and admitted by the outgoing National Exco by an unknown person does not in any way represent the State Executive Council member’s or other members of the party who are constitutionally mandated to attend and vote at conventions.

“We hereby state unequivocally that we consider the convention a huge joke, immoral and wholesome anti-party, the conduct of an event of such magnitude.

” We are not a party to the national convention neither are we going to respect or recognize the outcome of the convention.”

The crisis over the venue of the National convention became an issue after the defection of the party’s sole Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko to the PDP. On Wednesday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had urged members to shun the convention. However, the outgoing National Chairman of the party, Dan Nwachukwu said the convention will go on.
