Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared October 4 for Eid-el-Kabir festival.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee in conjunction with the National Committee on Moon Sighting did not receive any reports from various moonsighting committees across the country confirming the sighting of the new moon of Zulhijja 1435, on Tuesday which was the 29th day of Zul’qa’adah 1435 AH.
According the report, “The Sultan accepted the report and declared October 4 as the 10th day of Zulhijja 1435 AH which is the Eid-el-Kabir day.”
The Sultan therefore, wished all Muslims a happy Eid-al-Kabir festival and prayed God to accept the religious deeds. While the date declared by the Sultan falls on a Saturday, the Federal Government is expected to declare Monday as public holiday to celebrate the festival.
