It Is A Shame Obasanjo Still Seeks Relevance At His Age – Fayose Slams Former President

Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, Friday, slammed former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, saying it’s a shame that the former president would still be ‘loitering’ about the corridors of power in Abuja seeking relevance at his age .

Fayose spoke in his Afao-Ekiti country home while addressing journalists who came to seek his reactions over his declaration by the state House of Assembly as the leader of opposition in Nigeria.

Fayosee who will be 55 at the weekend also said he had no apologies for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari, maintaining that “when I was criticising the president before he became president of Nigeria, they thought I will be quiet after, Noo. Tomorrow if I find him wanting, I will tell him. The president is not God, he’s only leader of our country for a period of time.”

Lambasting the former president, Fayose said: “The likes of Obasanjo were looming larger than life at that time, where are they now? They are at Ota, they are begging for relevance now, they go to the villa every day to beg for ministerial nominees, I was watching (reading) him in the papers, whether he was prostrating for Buhari or he was exchanging compliments I don’t know. I can’t explain it. At certain times, you must know when to switch off, you must know when to turn off and you must know when to go to bed.”

The Ekiti governor also declared that he was not interested in any position, even the Senate, after his tenure, saying “I won’t contest for senate. So anybody expressing anything for me, maybe it is preparation of one thing or the other, that person is wasting his time because I’m not going to beg for any office.”

Continuing , he said: “For me, whether they call me leader of opposition or not leader of opposition or call me Ayo Fayose, I’m not even Chairman of PDP governors’ forum and I’m not desperate for anything but you can’t take away my voice. You can throw away my word but you can’t throw me away.”

He also slammed PDP leaders who are defecting to the ruling party in search of relevance, saying “They should keep their relevance,” adding “whatever we do will live after us, good or bad.”
