Mr Moses Essien (YPP-Ibiono Ibom) in the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly says the house has allocated N600 million for improved healthcare facilities in the state.

Essien, who chairs the House Committee on Health, disclosed this during a media interaction with newsmen in Uyo on Friday.

He said the money was allocated for the maintenance of state-owned healthcare facilities across the three senatorial districts.

According to him, about 85 per cent of the state’s 2024 budget is for the improvement of facilities in hospitals across the state.

He assured that the maternal and child hospital project started by the immediate past administration would be completed before the end of the year.

He said “I am aware that the past administration initiated the hospital in Ibiono. It is not a project funded by the state government wholeheartedly.

“It is an MDG project of the Federal Government in partnership with the state government.

“As the chairman, House Committee on Health in the State House of Assembly, I have interacted with the commissioner for health on several occasions and I have also met with the governor personally who assured me that the hospital will be completed.

“I can assure you that in the 2024 budget, there is an amount of money set aside for the hospital to be completed, and I have no doubt that the project will be completed before the end of this year.”
