Military Rescues 20 Persons From Cleared Boko Haram Camps

The Nigerian military in continuation of its offensive operations to clear the North-east of Boko Haram terrorist activities, has rescued people from some communities in Borno State.

The Media Coordinator, Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Tukur Gusau, in a statement on Saturday said troops of 103 Battalion under 21 Brigade early Saturday morning conducted 23 kilometre wide clearance operations in Rigaga and its adjourning villages in Bama Axis.

Gusau said the operation recorded a major success. According to him, four Boko Haram Terrorists enclaves along the route of the operations were cleared and a number of terrorists killed, while two were captured alive and are currently undergoing investigation in accordance with the Nigerian Army rules of engagement.

“The troops were also able to rescue 20 people held in captivity by the terrorists in the area. They include 14 children and six women. The rescued persons are currently receiving medical and other necessary attention in our facility,” the military spokesman stated.
Similarly, he said, in furtherance to offensive operations towards the clearance of Lagaran Fulani and Ango Baya Villages, troops of 28 Task Force Brigade conducted reconnaissance patrol to identify possible blocking positions along Bitta Yamteke Road.

Gusau said the troops recovered several items during their operation at Sasawa Terrorists camp. He listed the items to include Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)-making materials such as two cylinders, a Motorola Radio, Garmin GPS Detonating Cords and RPG bombs. He also assured that the morale of the troops remained very high and well motivated.
