Here are the steps to check your JAMB and WAEC results

JAMB stands for Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. It is a Nigerian entrance examination board that conducts the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for students seeking admission into tertiary institutions such as universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in Nigeria.

The JAMB examination is mandatory for all students who have completed their secondary education and wish to gain admission into a tertiary institution in Nigeria. The examination usually consists of multiple-choice questions in four subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and two other subjects relevant to the student’s intended course of study.

The JAMB examination is used to determine the eligibility of candidates for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The examination scores are used in combination with other criteria such as the candidate’s O’ level results and the admission quota for each institution to determine which candidates will be offered admission.

While, WAEC stands for the West African Examinations Council. It is a regional examination body responsible for conducting a variety of secondary school level examinations in English-speaking West African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia.

In Nigeria, WAEC is responsible for conducting the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) which is a standardized test taken by students who have completed their secondary education. The examination usually consists of multiple-choice questions and written tests in various subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities.

The SSCE examination is important for students seeking admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria and is also a requirement for some job applications and scholarship opportunities. The examination is usually held once a year in May/June, with a second diet in November/December.

Overall, WAEC plays a significant role in the education system of West African countries by providing a standardized means of assessing students’ academic performance and facilitating the admission of qualified candidates into tertiary institutions.

Abductors who captured a former president of theย NBA, Okey Wali, have released him

0

Abductors who captured a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Okey Wali, have released him after holding him in captivity for two weeks.

Yakubu Maikyau, the incumbent NBA president, announced this in a statement on Monday.

Mr Maikyau, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), said the 26th NBA president was released after exactly 14 days in captivity.

โ€œI personally spoke with him and he is in good spirits,โ€ Mr Maikyau stated.

Mr Maikyau did not give details of how Mr Waliโ€™s release was secured.

Although, he thanked Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and the police authorities for their โ€œinterventions,โ€ Mr Maikyau reiterated โ€œour call on the Federal Government to live up to its constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of all Nigerians in all its ramification.โ€

The 64-year-old Senior Advocate of Nigeria was kidnapped along East-West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on 17 April.

The NBA said Mr Wali was abducted after his convoy came under the abductorsโ€™ attack along the road.

The attack, based on the associationโ€™s account, overwhelmed the two police officers in the convoy who escaped with gunshot injuries.

Two of Mr Waliโ€™s personal aides died from gunshot wounds they sustained in the attack by the kidnappers, who then took him away, the NBA said.

Here’s Why NAFDAC is banning the consumption of Indomie noodles in Nigeria

0

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced an investigation into the news of recalled Indomie noodles by Taiwan and Malaysia authorities.

The agencyโ€™s Food Safety and Applied Nutrition Directorate will on Tuesday randomly sample Indomie noodles including the seasoning from the production facilities while Post Marketing Surveillance Directorate samples from the markets.

Director General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye disclosed this while reacting to the report of recalled Indomie noodles by Taiwan and Malaysia authorities.

Adeyeye stated that the Indomie noodles have been banned from being imported into the country for many years adding that it is one of the foods on the government prohibition list.

โ€œIt is not allowed in Nigeria, and therefore not registered by NAFDAC. The compound of interest is ethylene oxide, so the Director, Food Lab Services Directorate has been engaged. He is working on the methodology for the analysis,โ€ Adeyeye said.

โ€œWhat we are doing is an extra caution to ensure that the product is not smuggled in, and if so, our post-marketing surveillance would detect it. We also want to be sure that the spices used for the Indomie and other noodles in Nigeria are tested.

โ€œThat is what NAFDAC Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (FSAN) and Post Marketing Surveillance (PMS) are doing this week at the production facilities and in the market, respectively. The public will be duly updated with the outcomes of the investigation.โ€

JAMB releases 2023 UTME results

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that results of candidates, who took the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), will be released today.

A statement by the organisation said those who took the test but encountered challenges without knowing, would not get results, but notifications for rescheduled examination.

JAMB clarified: โ€œCandidates under these categories are principally those who were verified at their centres but could not sit for the examination, and those who could not be biometrically verified, as well as those with mismatched data. You will recall that the Board scheduled the conduct of the 2023 UTME for April 25 to May 2.โ€

The examination body went on: โ€œIt is equally noteworthy that the Board had informed Nigerians that it would be using some novel innovative methods in conducting the exercise with the aim of completely arresting incidence of examination infractions.โ€

โ€œThis has been largely achieved as the exercise recorded the lowest reported cases of infractions, but with equally emerging challenges on account of human negligence, which led to some candidates not being able to sit for the examination on the first day. This notwithstanding, out of the 1,586,765 candidates that indicated interest in sitting for the examination, only 80,166 are now outstanding.

โ€œAs part of the decisions reached at the end of an emergency management meeting held on April 30, the Board has fixed May 6 for all categories of candidates, who have not sat for their examination.โ€

Why Former NFF first vice president, Seyi Akinwunmi, is quitting Lagos FA

0

Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) first Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi, yesterday, officially announced his resignation as chairman of Lagos Football Association.

Akinwunmi, a lawyer, said he would have quit the job when his tenure formally ended in January this year, but delayed the decision because it coincided with the state FA Cup, adding that it would have been irresponsible to leave in the middle of a competition.

The former head of the NFF Youth Committee, who lost his bid to become the federationโ€™s president at its elections last year, was chairman of the Lagos FA for 12 years.

Speaking on his decision to leave the position from which he became chairman of South West Football Forum, Akinwunmi said it was time to give others opportunity to manage the association, adding that he would still be around to lend his support whenever it is needed.

โ€œI am leaving as chairman of Lagos FA not with any ill-feeling, no subterfuge nor political pressure.

โ€œIt is my wish to step aside after 12 years, as I promised, to allow other people move our association forward. Lagos is fortunate that it has people with the knowledge to continue with the programmes we started 12 years ago.โ€

Akinwunmi, whose foundation, has seen the development of youths from the grassroots to international football and other children in several other professions, promised that he would not relent in helping talented youths to become great champions of the future.

โ€œMy legacy after 12 years is that we have developed children to heights they could only have dreamt of. Some of them are in American universities pursuing different careers. Some of these children, including Igbos, Hausas, Ijaws and Yorubas, among others, are where they are today because we were able to identify their talents and helped them to begin the journey of building on their potential to become stars in different fields,โ€ he said.

He dismissed speculation that he resigned from the Lagos FA to be able to become chairman of Remo Stars FC, a position that would qualify him for the chairmanship of the Interim Management Committee of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).

The chairmanship of the IMC conveys on the holder the NFF vice president position.

โ€œI donโ€™t need to resign from the Lagos FA to get to that position. As a matter of fact, I have better chance of getting to that position as a member of NFF Congress.

โ€œOf course, I am eminently qualified having gone through all the administrative strata of football. But that is not my aspiration. I am not planning for it or any other position,โ€ he said.

Gunmen kidnap two Catholic Priests In Delta

0

Two Catholic priests Reverend Father Chochos Kunav and his colleague Rev Father Raphael Ogigba, have been kidnapped by gunmen within the Agbara-Otor area of Ughelli North Local Government in Delta State.ย

The Delta State police command in a statement on Sunday said it is on the trail of the kidnappers who abducted priests.

According to the authorities, the clerics were abducted at the Agbara-Otor road on Saturday night while on their way to Ughelli.

The Delta state Police Public Relation Officer, Edafe Bright said the command has been proactively handling the abduction to ensure they are released unharmed.

A brief communique issued by Very Rev Father Okereke Kizito, notes that one of the hostages, Father Chochos works in Ibadan and was on a visit to his colleague of the Catholic diocese of Warri.

The two clergymen later went to see another priest around Agbara-Otor and were abducted on their way back.

As at the time of filing this report, it still was not clear if the kidnappers have reached out and if any demands have been made.

Lagos Govt moves to Appeal Judgement Nullifying MC Oluomo led road transport association

0

The Lagos State Government has filed a notice of motion to appeal the judgement of the National Industrial Court of April 18 which nullified the appointment of a caretaker committee it put in place to run the affairs of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the state.

The notice of leave to appeal dated April 28 was brought pursuant to Order 6, Rules 1, 2 & 7 of the Court of Appeal Rules 2021, Section 243(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as well as the inherent powers of the court.

The Attorney General of Lagos and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa were listed alongside the governor as appellants to the suit, while the RTEAN, all the members of the ad-hoc committee and the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State were listed as the 1st to 35th respondents.

The appellants in the notice say they are dissatisfied with the judgement of the National Industrial Court and are seeking an order of the court granting them leave to appeal against the said judgement.

They listed out seven Grounds in the Proposed Notice of Appeal.

In Ground one, the appellants say that the learned trial judge erred in law when it dismissed their preliminary objections dated Jan. 10, 2023 challenging the competence of the RTEANโ€™s originating summons and the jurisdiction of the trial court to hear the action as constituted.

In particulars put before the court, the appellants say that contrary to the position held by the lower court, the processes before it raised serious and substantial contentious and hostile facts which could not be appropriately remedied.

In Ground two, the appellants also submitted that the trial court erred in law when it granted the claims of the RTEAN when same were not proved and established.

Ground three says that the trial court erred in law when it held that โ€œfrom the action of the Lagos State Govt in dissolving the democratically elected executive and substituting them with a caretaker committee under the guise of maintaining security shows that the government was more interested in the leadership of the applicant than the peace and tranquility of the applicantโ€.

Ground four says that the trial court erred in law when it relied on the affidavit depositions of the RTEAN, Exhibit Q in holding that the 2nd & 4th respondents dissolved the 1st respondent as a labour union and appointed the caretaker committee to run the affairs of the 1st respondent when Exhibit Q, the instrument issued by the Governor neither dissolved nor suspended the 1st respondent, nor does the document refer to the 1st respondent in any wise.

In Ground five, the appellants held that the trial court erred in law and fact in relying on Exhibits B1, B2 and B3 as a factual means for holding that the 2nd respondent suspended the entire branch of the 1st respondent or interfered with the 1st respondent by dissolving it as trade union.

In Ground six, the appellants submitted that the trial court erred in law when in granted the respondentโ€™s claim, it failed to limit itself to the declarations sought but went ahead to grant enforceable orders on the originating summons.

In Ground seven, the applicants held that the judgement of the court is against the weight of evidence.

In their reliefs, they are seeking an order allowing the appeal and setting aside the judgement of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Lagos Division delivered by Justice Maureen Esowe in the suit of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria Vs The Executive Governor of Lagos State & 36 others delivered on April 18, 2023 or any other order the court may deem fit and proper to make in the circumstances of the appeal.

The court has yet to fix a date for the hearing of the suit.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje dares Rabiu Kwankwaso to reinstall Sanusi Lamido as Emir

0

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has reiterated that the four new emirates created by his administration are here to stay.

The governor made this known on Monday during the Workersโ€™ Day celebrations held at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

His statement comes days after the leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, stated in a viral video that the incoming government of Abba Yusuf would review the balkanisation of the Kano emirate.

However, Ganduje, who split the Kano emirates into five and dethroned the then Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, stated that the four new emirates are a symbol of unity, progress, and the well-being of the people.

He added that the emirates were created to honour the people of the regions and recover the reputation of the traditional institutions.

โ€œAny of you that visits the headquarters of these new emirates will believe me that we have brought development to these places. We created them to honor the people of these regions,โ€ Ganduje said.

He further assured the people of Kano that the emirates were permanent and had come to stay, adding that anyone who attempts to destroy them will not be brought to Kano State by God Almighty.

โ€œEven if we are not in government, we are praying and we will keep praying for God to protect these emirates from all evils. I thank you all,โ€ he said.

The creation of the new emirates has been a controversial issue in Kano since 2020, with some people supporting the move while others opposing it.

May Day: N30,000 minimum wage insufficient for workers โ€” Soludo

0

The governor of Anambra state, Professor Charles Soludo, said that the N30,000 national minimum wage for Nigerian workers is grossly insufficient to sustain the average worker and his family.

Soludo stated this while addressing the state workers during the 2023 May Day celebration held at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, on Monday.

According to him, โ€œpaying N30,000 national minimum wage to Nigerian workers is subjecting them to living in denial.

โ€œI say this because the amount cannot afford a bag of 50kg rice, let alone other domestic problems staring families on the face on daily basis,โ€ he said.

The governor who was responding to the litany of challenges reeled out by the chairmen of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, said he recently raised the salaries of workers by 10 per cent to cushion the effects of inflation on workers.

He said that as an expert in economics, he was aware of inflation in our economy which had made workers to be in serious pains given what they earn as salaries.

Soludo used the medium to direct the state workers to end the Monday sit-at-home which he noted was becoming a cheating on government.

โ€œIn more than a year now, workers in Anambra and other states in the South-East no longer work on Mondays and this has made it for them to work for 70/80 per cent monthly, while they receive their monies 100 per cent.

โ€œThis can no longer continue because it is like it has become a convenient excuse and we must get our state back on track,โ€ he said.

Soludo said, under his watch, any worker who retires must get his or her retirement benefits.

He also assured that he would continue to pay monthly salaries in addition to other projects.

He told the labour leaders that the option available for him to implement the enhanced wages being clamoured for was for the government to reduce the workforce by half.

Soludo who commended the state workers for their commitment appealed to them to do more as he will ensure that they get better welfare once the state revenue increased.

Earlier, Humphrey Nwafor and Chris Ogbonna, both NLC and TUC state chairmen, respectively, had in their separate addresses listed challenges facing workers in the state.

They maintained that wages received by Anambra workers cannot feed them and their families, while appealing that those due for promotions should be promoted.
