Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed how he connected his billionaire dad, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, with the World Bank President.

He said his dad couldn’t get link to the World Bank President despite all his connections until he did the connection.

The OBO crooner disclosed this in a recent interview with Real 92.3 FM, Atlanta.

Davido said, “Let me tell you something that was so beautiful. So, my dad he has been trying to… He has a lot of friends in high places. He has been trying to look for the President of the World Bank. He has been trying to get to the guy.

“This is one of the most defining moments of my life. He [World Bank President] sees me in a hotel and was like, ‘Davido, I enjoyed your performance. I’m the President of the World Bank.’

“I said, ‘Oh! Hold on. [brought out his phone] Hello, daddy, I have the President of the World Bank.’ He said, ‘Oh! Give him the phone.’ I connected the deal.”

Nigerian rapper and singer Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, has said he and his wife will be living in different rooms if he marries.

The ‘Sex Over Love’ crooner said that he can’t live in the same room with his wife because of his polygamous nature.

He stated this while appearing as a guest on the latest episode of the Nancy Isime Show.

Asked whether he would ever get married, Blaqbonez said: “I will marry, but I will be in like a different kind of marriage. It’s a different type.

“First, in marriage, I don’t want to be in the same room with my wife. Like you have your room, I have my room. Like, first, aesthetically, what if I’m a Batman guy and I want everywhere dark and batmanish and you, you’re a Barbie princess?

“Another thing, I like my bathroom looking a certain way, I don’t really like some type of things hanging around there. I like my manly things in the bathroom. So, I have decided in marriage, I care about you, but you stay in that other room, [and] I stay in this other room.

Famous Lagos businesswoman arraigned for N140bn fraud

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday arraigned Saadatu Ramalan-Yaro, a businesswoman, for the second time in Lagos State, two weeks after her first arraignment.

The businesswoman was brought before Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of money laundering amounting to over N140 billion. She is accused of not fulfilling her responsibilities as the director of Tsami Babi Resources Limited, a designated non-financial business, by not submitting the company’s activities.

The EFCC stated that Ramalan-Yaro deposited N100 billion into the company’s account with Zenith Bank without informing the Ministry of Commerce.

The act committed by the accused contravenes Sections 5(1) (a) and 16(1) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act of 2011 (as amended), and is punishable under Section 16(2)(b) of the same Act.

In the second charge, Ramallan-Yaro and M.A.Y. Fine Fragrance Limited, a designated non-financial institution, were accused of money laundering amounting to N40 billion. The accused pleaded not guilty, and the prosecution counsel requested a date for the commencement of the case.

The defense counsel, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), requested bail for the defendant, which was granted by Justice Egwuatu. The trial was adjourned until July 12 and 13, 2023.

The bail conditions required the defendant to deposit her international passport with the court and provide two sureties, one of whom must be a public servant and the other a relative, with a total bail amount of N100 million.

Ambrose Alli University sacks two lecturers, nine workers for sexual harassment

The Management of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State has dismissed 13 academic and non-academic staff members for offences ranging from falsified age, fraud and gross misconduct to extortion and sexual harassment.

The institution’s acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Asomwan Adagbonyin, said the decision was based on the recommendations of the University Staff Disciplinary Committee which found them guilty of the offences.

Adagbonyin disclosed this while presenting the committee’s report to the Chairman, Andrew Olotu, and members of the AAU Special Intervention Team on Monday in Benin City.

He disclosed that the affected staff members were from the Faculty of Basic Medical Science, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing Department, Engineering Department, Faculty of Law and Political Science among others.

He added that the disciplinary committee recommended that “the criminal aspect of the disengage staff members’ offences should be reported to security operatives.”

Adagbonyin said a lecturer was recommended for sacking after he was found guilty of extorting students of N32,000 and N52,000, adding that a lecturer who was indicted for sexual harassment was also dismissed.

He said, “The lecturer had claimed to only make advances, but he went to the girl’s church to plead for forgiveness. The victim has been protected and reassigned to another lecturer.

“Out of the 209 disciplinary cases received, the USDC has concluded 132 of the cases, while 77 cases are pending.”

Bello El-Rufai, the son of the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has taken a new wife, Aisha Habibu in a private wedding in Abuja.

Aisha is the daughter of the former Military Administrator for Plateau and Niger states, Colonel Habibu Shuaibu.

Bello is a House of Representatives member-elect representing Kaduna North while Aisha is an entrepreneur who manages multiple personal businesses.

The private Nikkah held on Friday and the wedding will be celebrated with events in the coming month.

Recall that Bello in 2015 married Kamilah in Kaduna and Harrow Park, Abuja.

Dangote refinery first product to hit market by July

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman Dangote Group, has assured that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will turn out its first product before the end of July.

Dangote disclosed this at the inauguration of a refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, on Monday.

“Beyond the constant availability of high-quality fuels for our transportation sector, the refinery will also make available to our Industries vital raw materials for a wide range of manufacturers in the plastics, pharmaceutical, food and beverages, packaging, construction, and many other industries.

“While the refinery operation and ancillary businesses will generate massive job opportunities, the downstream value chain will equally provide far more absorptive capacity for labour in hundreds of thousands.

“Once our plant is fully onstream, we expect that at least 40 per cent of the capacity will be available for export, and this will result in significant foreign exchange inflows into the country,” he said.

He emphasised the refinery’s role in fulfilling the group’s corporate vision of promoting self-sufficiency and global competitiveness.

“We have built a Refinery with a capacity to process 650,000 barrels per day (plus 900,000 tonnes of polypropylene) in a single train – which is the largest in the world. We have selected the best plants and equipment and the latest technologies from across the world.

“Our products slate is designed to meet the highest quality standards and high-value products including Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel).

“Others are Aviation Turbine Kerosine (ATK); all of Euro V Standards that will enable us not only meet our country’s demand but also to become a key player in the African and global market.

“Our coastal location and offshore loading and offloading (SPM) facilities with a capacity to receive all our crude oil supplies and evacuate up to 75 per cent of our liquid products give us direct access to the rest of Africa and the global market for exports.

“In addition, 80 per cent of our production can be discharged through trucks nationwide.”

Dangote disclosed that the huge investment of over $18.5 billion in this industry was prompted by the company’s desire to support and contribute its quota to the Federal Government’s sustained effort to transform the economy and reposition Nigeria as the leading nation in Africa.

According to him, apart from ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality fuels for the transportation sector, the refinery will provide essential raw materials to a wide range of manufacturing sectors, including plastics, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, packaging, construction, and more.

“Once our plant is fully on stream, we expect that at least 40 per cent of the capacity will be available for export and this will result in significant foreign exchange inflows into the country,” he said.

Also speaking, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, disclosed that outstanding debt by Dangote refinery has dropped appreciably from over $9 billion to $3 billion.

This was even as he said the CBN also partnered, as always, with the Dangote Group in ensuring the successful completion of the project by providing about N125 billion, to cover domestic currency requirements for the venture.

Emefiele said that the Dangote Group has started repaying some of the commercial loans even before the inauguration of the facility, saying this reflects the commercial capability of the Group and its Chairman.

He added that the take-off of the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical factories came with numerous economic benefits to Nigeria.

“I understand that, so far, there are nearly 4,000 Nigerian personnel on site, excluding employment by the various contractors and subcontractors at the project site.

“I am also proud to state that the project will generate up to 12,000MW of electricity,” he added.

Drama as father-in-law agreed to wife’s divorce on behalf of son

One Jimoh Zubair-logun, a father-in-law to Aminat Baba-Elesin, has written a “set free” letter to the Area Court at Center-Igboro, Ilorin,  to allow his daughter-in-law divorce his son, Ismail Jimoh-logun.

However, the presiding Judge, Abdulkadir Ahmed, objected to the letter, saying that it was not in compliance with the rules of Islamic marriage law, thereby expunged.

Ahmed said that after careful perusal of the affidavit deposed by the petitioner, dated April 28, which was in compliance with the rules of the court, that ordered the respondent to be served.

He said that the service was made by substituted means and delivered same to Jimoh Zubair-logun, the father-in-law, at Logun compound, Oloje, Ilorin.

The court thereby adjourned the case to May 25, for judgment.

Earlier, the petitioner said that since the respondent was deemed to have been aware of the matter, but chose not to appear in court, thereby urged the court to dissolve the marriage.

Iran bans dual nationals from becoming lawmakers

Iranian politicians who held dual citizenship would no longer be allowed to run for parliament, according to a new law.

In addition, anyone with a permanent residence in another country would also be banned from serving as a lawmaker.

Iranian legislators passed a law to this effect on Sunday, according to a report by state news agency IRNA.

The measure is aimed at preventing conflicts of interest.

A similar bill to ensure that candidates with only Iranian citizenship were eligible to run for president was passed in 2020.

Father arrested for allegedly injuring 2-month-old son

A 33-year-old father was arrested on Monday for allegedly causing a serious brain injury to his 2-month-old baby by violently shaking him.

The Incheon District Court issued an arrest warrant for the man on child abuse charges, citing concerns that he may attempt to flee.

He is suspected of injuring his son early this month at their home in Incheon, 27 kilometres west of Seoul.

He admitted to shaking the baby hard while holding him in his arms.

The infant is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital for a cerebral haemorrhage and a fractured rib.

Officials suspect the cerebral haemorrhage may be a result of what is also known as a ‘shaken baby syndrome’.

The syndrome typically occurs in infants under the age of 2 when they are shaken strongly.

It can cause a cerebral haemorrhage and a retinal haemorrhage, and these symptoms can also come with rib fractures and other injuries.

The police also investigated his wife as a witness but did not find any evidence of her participation in the abuse, according to officials.

Fight imminent among Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, Wike, others — Primate Ayodele predicts

The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has predicted what will happen in the next administration.

According to Ayodele, some newly elected politicians will have issues with their predecessors in the next administration both at the state and national levels.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele noted that the next administration will have so much misunderstanding that will lead to division between the politicians.

He noted that this will affect the country and some states because their misunderstanding will seriously affect progress.

“This next administration will feature several rancors both at the state and national levels. Some successors will fight their predecessors because it will not be rosy.

Some will battle the issue of betrayal and disobedience, there will be so much crisis in the country as a result of division among those at the helm of affairs.’’

The cleric further mentioned some incumbent state governors and their successors that will have these face-offs among themselves.

He noted that the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwoolu will have their issues, the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, and his successor, Sim Fubura, Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and his successor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and several others.

“The governor-elect of Akwa Ibom state, Umo Eno, and the incumbent, Emmanuel Udom will have a series of issues to battle in the next administration.

“Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the incoming governor of Delta, Sheriff Oborevwori will suddenly become enemies of each other.

“Governor Wike and the incoming governor of Rivers, Sim Fubara, to the surprise of many, will also not have it easy in the next administration due to rancor that will happen between them.’’

Also, Primate Ayodele foresees division between the president-elect and the vice president-elect, while revealing that the southwest and northern cabals will not have it rosy till the end.

“Apart from these (aforementioned), President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and vice president-elect, Kashim Shettima will have issues.

“There will be attempts to divide them. Also, the South-west cabal and Northern Cabals will not have it rosy till the end, there will be disagreements between them,” he said.
