How Nyesom Wike Violated Asset Declaration Rules Over Undeclared U.S. Properties – Chidi Odinkalu

0

Human rights lawyer and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Professor Chidi Odinkalu, has stated that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike violated asset declaration rules by failing to disclose foreign assets associated with his wife and children.

Similarly, in August, damning revelations exposed how Wike secretly acquired a $2 million mansion in Florida, and concealed ownership by registering the property in the names of his wife, Justice Eberechi Wike, and their three children, Joaquin, Jazmyne, and Jordan.

The documents, obtained by West Africa Weekly, also show that Justice Wike is a registered member of the U.S. Democratic Party, a status that places her in violation of Nigeria’s Judicial Code of Conduct, which prohibits judges from partisan political affiliations.

According to official U.S. public records, the Wike family quietly secured the property in March 2025.

The residence, located at 113 Spring Creek Lane, Winter Springs, Florida 32708, is a two-storey mansion built in 1997 on a 4,076-square-foot lot. It features multiple bedrooms, a garage, and two dedicated parking spaces.

A source familiar with the deal, who spoke to West Africa Weekly on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Wike deliberately omitted his name from the purchase, using his wife’s and children’s identities to shield himself from scrutiny regarding asset declaration obligations and questions about the source of funds.

The report was later amplified by SaharaReporters, and human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.

However, reacting to the controversy in a Channels Television interview last week, Wike dismissed claims that he secretly owned property abroad, saying, “The property was a gift to my wife from her family.”

“My wife and children are Americans. I don’t even like going to America,” the minister added during the interview.

Odinkalu, however, countered Wike’s defence, insisting that Nigeria’s asset declaration laws require public officials to declare properties linked to their spouses and children, especially minors.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Odinkalu wrote: “The #DrunkenGlutton has clearly not read the #AssetDeclaration rules or he should know that assets in the name of his wife & children since 2008 concern him because they shd be declared.

“By the way, how old were his children in 2008. His singing has only begun….”

Under Nigeria’s Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, all public officers are mandated to declare their assets, including those of their spouses and children under the age of 18.

Failure to do so can attract sanctions ranging from removal from office to prosecution before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Wike, who served two terms as governor of Rivers State before his appointment as FCT Minister in 2023, has faced growing scrutiny over his political and personal dealings.

The Florida property row has now intensified calls for greater accountability and adherence to transparency rules among top government officials.

Sowore’s Petition

On Monday, SaharaReporters reported that Sowore had petitioned the Attorney General of Florida, Hon. James Uthmeier, seeking the forfeiture and prosecution of Wike over illicit property acquisitions in the United States.

In the petition dated September 22, 2025, and signed by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, Esq., Sowore accused Wike of secretly purchasing multi-million-dollar real estate in Florida using suspicious cash transactions designed to conceal the source of funds.

According to the petition, Wike, alongside his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal, purchased three luxury lakeside properties in Winter Springs, Seminole County, Florida, valued at over $6 million.

The petition listed the properties as 113 Springcreek Lane, Winter Springs, FL 32708, which is a 5,000 sq. ft. residence purchased in cash for $535,000 and transferred to Jordan Wike (25); 209 Hertherwood Court, Winter Springs, FL 32708, which is a 3,401 sq. ft. home acquired for $459,157 in cash and transferred to Joaquin Wike (23); and 208 Hertherwood Court, Winter Springs, FL 32708, which is a 3,901 sq. ft. home bought for $465,000 in cash and transferred to Jazmyne Wike (20).

Sowore’s lawyers said the purchases were executed through quit claim deeds between July 2021 and September 2023 and transferred directly to Wike’s children. They argued that the cash-only acquisitions bypassed banking oversight and raised “serious money laundering concerns.”

Breach of Nigerian and U.S. Laws

The petition alleges that Wike failed to declare these foreign assets to Nigeria’s Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) as required under the Constitution.

It further noted that his legitimate income as a public servant since 1999 could not sustain such multi-million-dollar acquisitions.

The petition argued that the transactions violated both Florida state law and U.S. federal anti-money laundering statutes, specifically citing the Florida Money Laundering Act (Chapter 896.101, Fla. Stat.), the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act, and federal laws under 18 U.S.C. §§ 1956 and 1957.

It also referenced the U.S. Department of Justice Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative, which targets assets linked to corrupt foreign officials.

In June, the Peoples Gazette started a series of reports, accusing Wike of abusing his office by allocating sprawling hectares of Abuja’s most valuable lands to his son, Joaquin Wike.

This was revealed in an exclusive report by the newspaper, which cited inside sources and official documents to support this staggering abuse of power orchestrated by the FCT Minister.

The report revealed that Wike, since assuming office in August 2023, signed off on over 2,000 hectares of prime real estate to his son.

It revealed that to achieve this, the minister bypassed regulations and skipped payment of critical fees, contrary to the Nigerian Constitution and the principles of civil service ethics.

The Peoples Gazette stated that these allocations span some of Abuja’s most exclusive districts, including Maitama, Asokoro, Guzape, Bwari, and Gaduwa. This amounts to roughly 2,082 hectares or about 40,000 plots, with an estimated market value of $3.6 billion.

In July, the minister was also accused of allocating prime Abuja lands to his family members and friends.

According to documents cited by Peoples Gazette, Wike signed 33 approvals for land allocations to his family and friends, including his 90-year-old father, Joshua Nlemanya Wike, who received a plot of land in Guzape II worth N400 million.

The allocations, which were made on July 16, 2025, also included lands for Wike’s paternal cousin, Believe Wike; nephew, Victor Wike; nephew, Henry Wike; and cousin, Enwusonye Promise Wike. Other beneficiaries included eight family members of James Hunwo, who received individual allocations on the same day.

In April 2025, reports revealed that six of his family members, including his brothers and sisters, were allocated lands in Guzape II.

The beneficiaries were Vincent Ejike Wike, Chidi Sam Wike, Chituru Wike, Christian Ibebulachi Wike, Collins Ngeme Wike, and Emmanuel Okanwene Wike.

However, Wike denied the allegations.

Nigerian billionaire, Arthur Eze secures four high-stakes offshore exploration blocks in Liberia

0

Billionaire businessman and founder of Atlas Oranto Petroleum, Prince Arthur Eze, has once again made a monumental statement about Nigerian dominance in African energy. The Anambra-born mogul’s company has successfully secured four high-stakes offshore exploration blocks in Liberia—a deal that is being hailed as the major catalyst for the West African nation’s long-stalled oil and gas sector revival.

The Mega-Deal: $12M Upfront and an $800M Pledge

The agreements, formally signed in Paris, cover the prized blocks LB-15, LB-16, LB-22, and LB-24. The contracts mandate an immediate $12 million signature bonus payment to the Liberian government. More significantly, Atlas Oranto has committed to a staggering $200 million in exploration investment for each of the four blocks, bringing the total committed capital expenditure to a potential $800 million.

Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai personally guaranteed that the deals would be characterized by total transparency, stringent environmental safeguards, and robust local participation as they are forwarded to the legislature for final ratification. This emphasis on local content is a crucial factor, signaling that the economic benefits will hopefully trickle down to the Liberian people.

Arthur Eze, famously known for his deep ties and political influence across Nigeria, founded Atlas Oranto in 1991. The company has since grown into a formidable player, operating in 22 countries across Africa. For Nigerians, this deal represents a classic demonstration of the financial might and continental ambition of Nigerian indigenous oil companies.

Furthermore, the expansion into Liberia follows Atlas Oranto’s recent historic move into South America, specifically Venezuela, marking the company’s first venture outside of the African continent. This latest Liberian acquisition not only strengthens Nigeria’s energy foothold in the region but also clearly positions Arthur Eze’s company as a force that is aggressively competing on a global scale. The market will be watching closely as this massive investment unfolds, hoping it signals a new, prosperous era for both Liberia and Atlas Oranto.

Tension! Geh Geh Drags Bobrisky for Filth: “You No Be Better Man, You No Still Be Better Woman!”

The Nigerian social media space just caught fire! Controversial media personality Geh Geh has unleashed a brutal clapback at crossdresser Bobrisky, escalating a brewing social media feud that has gone completely viral.

The Nigerian social media personality Geh Geh’s real name is Emmanuel Obruste. He’s also sometimes referred to by his full stage name, Emmanuel “Geh Geh” Obruste. The drama started when Bobrisky threw the first punch, advising women to immediately dump any boyfriend who listens to Geh Geh’s relationship content. Bobrisky didn’t stop there, branding Geh Geh a “broke man who cannot afford my lifestyle” and claiming that women who date men like him are simply “settling for less.”

But Geh Geh came back swinging in his signature fiery style, refusing to hold back. He aimed directly at Bobrisky’s identity, delivering the ultimate shade: “You no be better man, and you no still be better woman. You’re just a confused human being.” The social media personality known as Bobrisky was born as Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju.

As Nigerians rush to the comment section with hilarious takes, the consensus is clear: this is premium content!

  • @THE_CRAFT3R: “If to be man easy, why you run? ??”
  • @Trustt_X: “This guy na more comedian than financial adviser.”

With fans divided and the gbas gbos still trending, this fight promises to be the biggest of the week!

This feud between Geh Geh and Bobrisky is a perfect snapshot of Nigeria’s digital culture, contrasting two extremes. Bobrisky, with her extravagant display of wealth and boundary-pushing gender fluidity, represents the unapologetic disruption of conservative Nigerian norms, forcing a conversation on identity, sexuality, and the transactional nature of fame and money in a deeply capitalist society.

On the flip side, Geh Geh embodies the rise of the social media self aclaimed financial ‘guru’—often delivering controversial advice, especially to men on how to avoid financial ‘traps’ set by women. He represents a brand of hyper-masculine, anti-establishment commentary that resonates with a large demographic feeling the pressure of economic hardship, ultimately pitting “traditional” financial caution against “modern” flamboyant defiance.

Breaking: Kwankwaso denies joining a New Party!

0

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (RMK), leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, early, Friday issued a sharp and concise statement on social media, instantly debunking widespread online speculation.

His declaration: “We have not made any such submission to any party.”

This is not a simple denial; it’s a strategic power play in the high-stakes game of Nigerian politics. For weeks, rumors have been flying that RMK was finalizing a deal to merge his formidable structure with one of the major political parties. Today’s statement immediately puts a stop to the premature celebrations—or panicked calculations—in rival camps across the nation.

For his millions of devoted supporters—the Kwankwasiyya faithful—this means the waiting game continues, but with the reassurance that their leader has not yet sold their loyalty. All eyes now remain firmly fixed on RMK’s next official announcement.

Chichester City FC and former Arsenal academy striker Billy Vigar has died following a “significant brain injury”

0

Chichester City FC and former Arsenal academy striker Billy Vigar has died following a “significant brain injury.”

The 21-year-old, born in Worthing, was injured during a game at Wingate and Finchley in the Isthmian League Premier Division on Saturday. It is believed he collided with a concrete wall, though the club has not confirmed this.

Vigar’s family said on Thursday,”After sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy Vigar was put into an induced coma.

On Tuesday, he needed an operation to aid any chances of recovery. Although this helped, the injury

proved too much for him and he passed away on Thursday morning.”

“The responses to the original update show how much Billy was loved and thought of within the sport.”

A graduate of the Arsenal academy, Vigar left the club in 2024 and also played for Derby County, Hastings United, and Eastbourne Borough.

Arsenal said: “Billy joined our academy on schoolboy terms aged 14, after being scouted at his hometown club Hove Rivervale FC and excelled as a striker at Hale End… As well as his significant talent, Billy will always be remembered for his love of the game, pride at representing our football club… and a character beloved by team-mates and coaches alike. Our deepest condolences go out to the Vigar family and his many friends at this extremely difficult time.”

Derby County, Hastings United, Eastbourne Borough, and The FA also expressed shock and condolences.

Chichester City confirmed Vigar’s death and said Saturday’s match against Lewes would be postponed and rescheduled.

“Apologise or Face the Market Square”: Senator Natasha Issued Public Ultimatum by Husband’s Ex-Father-in-Law

0

A dramatic family dispute has spilled onto social media, with Richmond Macgrey, the former father-in-law of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband, Emmanuel Uduaghan, demanding a public apology from the lawmaker.

Macgrey’s Facebook post on Thursday accused Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of “disrespecting my daughter and family enough” and “taking my daughter’s glory.”

The post was a clear ultimatum: Macgrey demanded that the Senator “publicly apologise and take down these photos,” warning that he would escalate the feud if she failed to comply.

“Don’t forget I kept all the documents you sent me,” he wrote, suggesting he holds sensitive information, and dramatically declared, “The drums are out. We may soon start dancing in the market square.”

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan made a formal allegation of sexual harassment against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, claiming he made repeated unwanted advances and tied the advancement of her legislative motions to demands for sexual favours—allegations which Akpabio vehemently denied.

Shortly after she went public and filed a petition, the Senate, led by Akpabio, voted to suspend her for six months without pay. The official grounds cited for the suspension were not the sexual harassment allegation, which the Ethics Committee dismissed on procedural grounds, but rather an earlier argument concerning her seating arrangement and alleged disruptive behaviour.

This swift disciplinary action, seen by critics and women’s rights groups as a clear attempt to silence and victimize her for speaking out, sparked nationwide protests and a major debate on gender-based violence and institutional impunity within Nigerian politics.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is a Nigerian Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

She is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and made history as the first elected female senator in Kogi State. Her term began in November 2023 after she won a favorable judgment from the Court of Appeal regarding the 2023 senatorial election.

Unrest Feared: Dangote Refinery Allegedly Sacks Entire Local Workforce After 90% Join Union

Reports circulating from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE in Lagos claim that the company has taken the drastic step of sacking every one of its local Nigerian employees according to a leaked letter shared online and seen by NewsWireNGR team.

The mass termination is said to have occurred after the vast majority of the staff—reportedly exceeding 90%—successfully unionized by joining the PENGASSAN.

This massive purge has been met with immediate alarm, as observers fear the move could rapidly lead to industrial unrest and a severe crisis in labor relations across the Nigerian oil and gas industry.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has historically focused its demands on core issues of job security, improved working conditions, and adherence to established labor lawswithin the volatile oil and gas sector.

Before this current alleged mass sack at Dangote Refinery, key demands frequently included opposing the casualization of labor (where workers are kept on temporary contracts without benefits), pushing for the domestication of the industry’s workforce to prioritize Nigerian professionals, and ensuring fair and equitable compensation reflective of the sector’s profitability.

Furthermore, the union has been a vocal advocate for enhanced safety protocols and opposing unilateral management decisions, such as mass layoffs, without due process and collective bargaining, often threatening industrial action to enforce these critical demands. We will be following this story and keep our readers updated, in the meantime, Dangote Group is yet to acknowledge letters leaked online.

Top 10 fastest-growing sectors in Nigeria in Q2 2025

0

Nigeria’s economy accelerated to 4.23% year-on-year growth in Q2 2025, beating the 3.13% recorded in Q1 and 3.48% in Q2 2024, according to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) data.

The rebound was powered by surging performance in coal mining, quarrying, and rail transport, signalling renewed investment and infrastructure gains across key industries.

Coal mining led the pack, soaring 57.53% after four quarters of contraction, driven by revived power-sector demand, mine rehabilitation, and energy diversification investments. Rising global prices and domestic energy shortages prompted manufacturers to increase their local coal usage, particularly for industrial boilers and backup power generation.

The non-oil economy expanded by 3.64% in Q2 2025, improving by 0.45 percentage points from 3.19% in Q1, highlighting strengthening domestic demand and broader economic recovery outside the petroleum sector.

The Q2 2025 GDP results underscore a broad-based economic rebound driven by extractive industries, energy, and transport services.

Additionally, spillovers from Q1 reforms—such as tariff adjustments, infrastructure spending, and security improvements—continued to bolster growth.

Below are the fastest-growing sectors of the economy as of the second quarter of 2025.

Despite moderating from Q1’s 18.65% expansion, the power sector maintained its recovery following Q4 2024’s contraction. Grid stability strengthened, with no system disturbances reported through Q1–Q2.

According to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), average available generation capacity across grid-connected plants rose by 69.99 MW (+1.32%), climbing from 5,296.89 MW in Q4 2024 to 5,366.88 MW in Q1 2025.

Fifteen plants recorded higher output levels during the period. April’s tariff adjustments and subsidy reforms bolstered sector finances, while industrial hubs with heavy demand saw the most significant reliability improvements.

Video: Here’s how a Pastor’s iPhone was snatched on London street during Facebook Live prayer

0

A pair of thieves were caught on camera stealing Pastor Isaac Anderson’s phone while he conducted a Facebook Live prayer session in London.

The Ghanaian pastor was mid-sermon early yesterday in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, when two balaclava-clad cyclists targeted him at 6.30am.

Unaware, Anderson continued preaching as the thieves rode past, then turned back to snatch his iPhone 16 Pro Max. A passing bus driver tried to warn him by repeatedly beeping.

The crooks didn’t realize the phone was still live. One thief said, “Hey JP, he’s on Tiktok. He’s on TikTok live bro… No fam. How do I end it? It’s on Facebook.”

His accomplice later muttered: “Oh s**,”* while covering his face.

Speaking online, Anderson warned as quoted by Daily Mail UK, “All of the sudden, someone from behind on a bike just came and snatched my phone from my hands [an] iPhone 16 pro max. It’s not easy. All my information was on it”

He added: “You have to be very careful… Be careful about your phones and your important stuff. Thieves, burglars and robbers are everywhere. This is London…”

The theft highlights a surge in phone snatchings in London, where incidents have tripled over four years. In 2024, more than 70,000 phones were stolen in the capital, many sold abroad.

The Metropolitan Police is cracking down with plain-clothed officers, e-bikes, and helicopters to catch thieves.
