The Kano State Shura Committee has suspended popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Lawal Shuaib Abubakar (known as Sheikh Triumph), from all teaching and preaching duties pending the conclusion of an investigation into allegations of blasphemy.

The decision was announced by the committee’s secretary, Shehu Wada Sagagi, following a review meeting where members examined audio and video evidence of the cleric’s sermons.

Sagagi confirmed that the committee meticulously reviewed the recorded sermons, separating unverified accusations from those supported by evidence.

“Every verified point has been documented,” Sagagi told journalists. He detailed the serious nature of the allegations against Sheikh Triumph, which reportedly include:

  • Making offensive comments about Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
  • Questioning specific parts of the Prophet’s birth story.
  • Suggesting that the Prophet’s parents were in hell fire.

Suspension and Defense

The committee decided to suspend Sheikh Triumph immediately to prevent further controversy while the investigation is underway. Sagagi confirmed that the cleric will be issued a formal letter requiring him to appear before the committee to defend himself against the documented claims.

“Until then, he remains suspended,” Sagagi stated, assuring the public that the cleric would be given ample time and opportunity to respond before a final decision is reached. Following the defense, the committee will forward its ultimate recommendations to the government for action.
