Femi Aribisala: Should Christians Fight Wars?

Modern Christianity has given us a Messiah without a cause.

Christians claim to be followers of Jesus, but deny him at every turn. We don’t do what he asks us to do; but we do what he tells us not to do. We talk Jesus but contradict him at every turn. We call Jesus our Good Shepherd, but refuse to follow him. Jesus says: “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46).

Very early in the apostolic age, a quiet decision must have been made by the so-called Christian Church to ignore the doctrine of Jesus on the grounds of its impracticability. Jesus’ precepts are deemed to be unrealistic. However, what is “realistic” is often ungodly.

Jesus or Moses

One major area where Jesus’ commandment is honoured more in the breach than in the observance is on the question of fighting and going to war. Jesus says: “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.” (Matthew 5:38-39).

The person who prescribes an eye for an eye is Moses. (Exodus 21:23-25). Which one then is the word of God? Is it Moses’ “an eye for an eye”; or Jesus’ “turn the other cheek?” Obviously, the one contradicts the other. Since it cannot be both, then not everything in the bible is the word of God; and not every biblical injunction is of God.

God himself prescribes the simple resolution of such contradictions in the bible. Differentiating at the Mount of Transfiguration between Jesus on the one hand, and Moses and Elijah on the other, God affirmed the supremacy of Jesus, saying: “This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased- listen to him!” (Matthew 17:5). This means in any discrepancies in scripture, we are to listen only to Jesus; his word is absolute.
Jesus differentiates between his word and that of Moses. He says the word of Moses will pass away when heaven and earth passes away.(Matthew 5:18). However, he maintains his own word will never pass away. (Matthew 24:35). According to Jesus, the word of Moses is not from the beginning: “from the beginning it was not so.” (Matthew 19:8). Therefore, the word of Moses cannot be the word of God. The word of God is not only from the beginning; it is eternal. (Psalm 119:89).

Love for enemies

Should the disciples of Jesus join armies and fight wars? Jesus’ position is unambiguous: those who belong to the kingdom of God do not fight over the things of this world. Jesus says to Pilate: “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, then my servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, my kingdom is not of this realm.” (John 18:36).

Jesus is against self-defense in preference for God-defense. He says: “Whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” (Luke 9:24). When they came to arrest Jesus, Peter drew a sword and cut off the ear of the servant of the high priest. Jesus healed the man and admonished Peter. He said to him: “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.” (Matthew 26:52).

The word of Jesus can hardly be used to justify warfare. Jesus says: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” (Matthew 5:43-44).

Only the blind will continue to insist that there are no contradictions in the bible after reading this. Jesus’ insistence that we love our enemies contradicts a significant part of the Old Testament where the Israelites not only hated their enemies, but sought to annihilate them and inherit their land. David, the champion of the Old Testament, boasts of hating the Lord’s adversaries with “perfect hatred.” (Psalm 139:22).
Christian war-mongers

The truth of the matter is that the Christians of today prefer the old wine of the Old Testament to Jesus’ new wine. Jesus’ precepts are deemed to be unrealistic while Moses is believed to have dealt with the real world. Therefore, if the Israel of old fought wars on the way to the Promised Land, then wars become validated, no matter what Jesus says. Indeed, Moses declares categorically that: “The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is his name.” (Exodus 15:3). If so, then wars are justifiable.

Solomon is also brought into the equation. He says: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1/3/8). This is understood to mean there comes a time when men have to go to war in the name of peace. Some also insist that sometimes peace has to be enforced.

Paul, of course, also provides a position that goes against the grain of Jesus’ commandment, even if in a more subtle manner. He says: “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” (Romans 12:18). This means we should only live peaceably with men if it is possible. Otherwise we should go to war. However, Jesus permits no such loopholes.

What we find now, therefore, is that men and women call themselves Christians in name only. However, in their words and actions they contradict and disobey Jesus with impunity. Neglecting Jesus, Christians rationalise war. They claim to be followers of the “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6); but come up with “doctrines of just wars.”

Some argue that righteous men must take up arms in defense of their fatherland. Others insist war is permissible if its object is the protection of innocent lives. Indeed, the view of many so-called Christians is that Jesus’ pacifism becomes immoral if interpreted to mean unconditional surrender to evil. Augustine even says a Christian can love an enemy in his heart, but kill him justifiably for religious or national purposes.
Non-violent Jesus

In effect, modern Christianity has given us a Messiah without a cause. It asks us merely to profess certain beliefs instead of having us adopt Jesus’ ethical lifestyle. It refuses to acknowledge Jesus as “the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6).

Is warfare permissible if it seeks to protect and defend human lives? No it is not, according to Jesus. The Christian life is not the temporal life. The Christian life is eternal. Eternal life does not need protection for it cannot be lost by physical death. The death that is of concern to many is a lie. Bullets don’t kill. Bombs don’t kill. The only thing that kills is sin.

In the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, God validated Jesus’ way of non-violence.

APC Leadership Silently Moving For A Buhari/Amaechi Ticket As Atiku’s Camp Cries Foul

New reports have emerged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have have zoned the party’s vice presidential ticket to the South with Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi as the preferred candidate.

Insinuations are rife that the party is pushing for a Buhari/Amaechi 2015 ticket with an unspoken decision that  a legacy member is primed to pick the presidential ticket while a defector picks the vice presidential ticket.

The formula, Nigeria Tribune learnt was designed to suit a consensus arrangement that the national leadership is working towards to favour Buhari. Buhari’s major opposition comes in the form of former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the charismatic Governor of Kano state, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Amaechi versus Fashola

It is believed that the formula will also get Amaechi’s competitors off his back in the South, being the only defector-governor from PDP in the zone.

While many would have preferred Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola as the Vice presidential candidate, the fact that he is a muslim stands against him as the party knows it cannot present a muslim/muslim ticket.

As a result, Fashola has been ruled out of the running for the vice presidential ticket despite the belief by many that he is a more acceptable personality than the Rivers Governor. Again Fashola is a legacy member while Ameachi is a defector.A defector has been pencilled down for the vice presidential ticket.

A south south vice presidential ticket, the party believes will compensate the region for the eventual loss of the presidency if the party wins the 2015 elections.

Buhari versus Atiku/Kwankwaso

A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) from the South, who is pro-Atiku Abubakar, told Saturday Tribune that other presidential aspirants were aware of the national leadership’s bias for Buhari, “but we will resist it.”He further added that “they are just joking. We will fight this to the end.”

The source said the alleged plan to expel dissenting voice against Buhari’s emergence cannot happen“They will expel till they are tired because they have to expel all of us who support Atiku and Kwankwaso. They are jokers.”

He went further to say that that the party hierarchy seem to prefer Buhari because he can be pushed aside unlike his two major contenders “because they know he has no political stamina and could be easily pushed off if he is making them uncomfortable, unlike Atiku or Kwankwaso who they can’t toy with anyhow.”

“If they beat us, fine, but we will not just chicken out because of the agenda of some people,” he added.

A pro-Buhari member believes that only the retired general has the political clout to hold the APC together opining that they need Kwankwaso because of the strategic positioning of the state under  his command “Only Buhari will leave the party today and the party will shake. We will beg Kwankwaso because he is influential and his state is strategic. Let’s see how far Atiku can go.”

No Favouritism- Lai Mohammed

National Spokesman for the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has denied that the party is scheming out Atiku and Kwankwaso in favour of Buhari

“For us as leaders, we are committed to providing a level playing field and that is why the national leadership told us that it was either we attend the declaration of all the presidential aspirants or none.

“The rule is that if you attend one, then be ready to attend all so that our appearance at a certain declaration would not be read as endorsement of a particular aspirant. But to show all the aspirants that we approve of them, we designated the national secretary to represent the party leadership in all the declarations,” Mohammed said.

Post primaries crisis

The national leadership of the party have been working out a crisis plan that will effectively mop up whatever issues may arise when the party’s flagbearer eventually emerges. The party’s hierarchy understands that it cannot afford to have internal ramblings with the elections just a couple of months away. With the party’s body language in the last few days, Buhari is touted as the favoured candidate. This may not go down well with Atiku whose supporters are already airing their frustrations. The national Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigun-Oyegun has said that the aspirants understand that only one of them will emerge and does not expect a crisis if the system of picking the candidate is open and fair.

Diana-Abasi Udoh: Is Atiku An Unclean Vessel?

The Presidential elections is closing in and after the ruling PDP has endorsed Mr. President as the sole candidate for the party all eyes is on the nation’s major opposition party the APC on who will fly its Presidential flag. Amongst the main gladiators are former Head of State General Buhari, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State and some minor names likes Leadership founder Sam Nda-Isaiah, ABU Zaria Professor of Business Education Mr. Mahmood Aliyu.

Of major focus is the former Vice President Atiku who appears to be the only candidate with a comprehensive blueprint on how to run Nigeria. This blueprint was presented to the public and was categorized under 7 key policy areas. However, curiously the major point explicitly missing is corruption which happens to be the major point the opposition party is campaigning upon to take over the Presidency from Jonathan and his PDP.
For the starter minds, corruption happens to be the nation’s main problem where the common wealth of the nation is trickling into the pockets of a few cable. Therefore how Atiku and his handlers missed this massive campaign point beats ones imagination. If Atiku’s antecedents are to be vetted, his major and preceding fall out with his former boss Obasanjo was because of that word corruption. Even a week ago when major backers of the opposition party led by Bola Tinubu went on consultation to Ota to seek the former President’s inputs on the names about to contest for the ticket, it was well reported in the media that Obasanjo singled out Atiku and cautioned the opposition party leaders not to present an unclean vessel to Nigerians. In reaction Atiku retorted that Obasanjo has every right to endorse whosoever he wants but Nigerians will decide who will be President.

There is no doubt whatsoever that it is Nigerians who will decide who will be President come next year as Atiku has rightly observed. But as for Atiku in particular and his candidacy the one important endorsement he must fight to secure is that of his former boss because this corruption noose has hanged for too long over his neck. Atiku might be constitutionally qualified to seek the nation’s top position but he must justify his candidature morally too. The question still remains to be answered: “Is Atiku morally qualified to be President?”. The answer still seems to lay with one man, his former boss Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Of course Obasanjo has just one vote to cast next year out of the millions of Nigerians that will vote next year. But that one vote of endorsement from OBJ to Atiku which has repeatedly refused to come despite numerous trips embarked upon by Atiku personally to Ota to seek for Obj’s forgiveness and approval for the job has refused to come.

It will be definitely hard for most Nigerians to queue behind Atiku if his previous employer(boss) has explicitly refused to endorse him for the position and rather call him an unclean vessel. The moral weight of that one vote, one endorsement from Obsanjo is too huge to be swept under the carpet as Atiku attempted to do last week when he feigned that Obasanjo’s endorsement can go to whomever as he didn’t care, as some of us truly care. It is for a reason that references are sought from previous employers (boss) as an important criteria for a new position.

It will be rather wise Atiku drops his campaigns to millions who still harbor the impression that he is a corrupt Nigerian and campaigns vigorously to one man, one vote Obasanjo. And if he can convince Obasanjo then he can convince millions indirectly because some still believe there wasn’t no smoke without fire when Obasanjo sought to excuse his then Deputy from his administration when the corruption stain came up.

Atiku parading his clearance obtained from the courts that he isn’t corrupt can never be a solid endorsement enough as we all know that the courts in this country also endorsed former Delta State Governor James Ibori as having no case to answer. But in far-away United Kingdom the verdict turned up differently and the courts even labelled Mr. Ibori who is a political associate of Atiku as a common thief. A word as they claim is enough for the wise.

Ekiti Elections Petition Tribunal To Resume Sitting On Tuesday, Relocates To Abuja

Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, the President of the court of Appeal has ordered the relocation of the Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal from Ado-Ekiti to Abuja.

This decision was made as a result of the crisis that rocked the tribunal over the september 25 hearing of the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress against Governor Ayo Fayose.

The notice was signed by the tribunal secretary, Mr. Abubakar Ishaq.

It will be recalled that the APC had written a letter requesting the transfer of the case from Ado-Ekiti over the crisis in which it claimed that the party lawyers were attacked by thugs during the violence that led to the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

,“Lawyers were attacked, with some having the side mirror of their vehicles broken, windshields were shattered and stones were hurled at lawyers inside the tribunal. Mr. Akeredolu’s car was hit with stones and sticks and he was called several unprintable names.

“At least, one judge of Ado Ekiti High Court, whose court is situated within the same premises where the tribunal sat, was physically attacked with his robe torn.

“All these things happened in the presence of the policemen who were posted to the premises to maintain peace and order, but they all (allegedly) looked away from the mayhem

“Now, what is clear from the whole incident is that the citadel of justice has been turned into a warfront. In that kind of situation, justice is under serious intimidation. Judges, lawyers, witnesses and other stakeholders are not safe. In such an atmosphere, justice can never be done.

“Our commitment as professionals in the temple of justice does not require us to knowingly expose our lives to the danger of annihilation.   We also do not believe that the system should knowingly expose any judge, lawyer and witnesses to obvious risks.

“In the premises, it becomes compelling to move the trial of the petition out of Ado-Ekiti State. This has happened in the past, the latest of which was the Borno State governorship election 2011, which had to be moved to Abuja for hearing due to the security situation there.

“We, therefore, humbly apply to Your Lordship for the immediate transfer of the petition which now stands adjourned to 14th October, 2014 to Abuja, a neutral ground, for hearing and determination.” the letter read.

The tribunal will resume sitting on Tuesday at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Jabi, Abuja instead of Ado-Ekiti.

Nigerian Immigration Stampede That Killed Over 18 Job Seekers, Suit Against Gov’t Begins Monday

The case on the deaths which occurred at the Nigeria Immigration Service job test on March 15 has been fixed for hearing. The case with the suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/694/2014 was instituted by  Patience Nonye Omezie.  Joined as defendants is the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Minister of Internal Affairs, Abba Moro and some others. The case will commence on Monday, 20th October 2014 at Federal High Court, Abuja, before Honourable Justice Abdul Kafarati.
It will be recalled that about 6.5 million people  in all 36 states of Nigeria the Federal Capital Territorry (FCT) were at various recruitment centers in the country for the 4000 vacant positions in the Nigeria Immigration Service where the stampedes occurred. About 18 people were reported to have died at the various recruitment centers.
Each applicant paid N1,000 for the applications form. The ministry of Internal Affairs had contracted the exercise to an Independent consultancy firm which was accused of mishandling the exercise.
Abba Moro irked Nigerians when he attributed the stampede to ‘impatience’ with major stakeholders calling for his head.

The suit is a challenge by Nigerian citizens, in particular, Patience Nonye Omezie, Kasim Yusuf Suleiman, Okojie Theophilus Arebamen and Godwin Morka.

Buhari Says Another Four Years Of PDP Will Destroy Nigeria

Presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has said that another four years of the Peoples Democratic Party may destroy the country.
Buhari said this at a Northern APC Stakeholders Interactive
Meeting in Kaduna on Saturday.
He said that he is bothered about PDP’s plan to use religion and ethnicity to ruin the country. He insisted that
the greatest  problem facing Nigeria was not religion or tribal differences, but the
deliberate plot by the ruling PDP led government, using
religion and ethnicity  for selfish gains.
Buhari also lambasted the militarisation of the last governorship election in  Ekiti and Osun states.
He said the abducted Chibok
schoolgirls  would have since  been rescued if the Government had deployed such number of soldiers in the North-East and insisted
that another four years of PDP would send Nigeria down the drain.

“You Can Never Take Seriously What You Have Not Invested In” APC Leader Frowns At Free Forms For Women

Mrs Sharon Ikeazor, the National Women Leader, All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised concern about the party’s decision to issue free forms to women who are vying for elective posts in the party.

She expressed the dissatisfaction about the development in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Abuja.

“I am not happy about it because you can never take seriously what you have not invested in,” she said.

Ikeazor, however, said she had advocated for a 50 per cent reduction in the prices of forms for all posts for women but not a total removal of a fee.
“Initially, we advocated for a 50 per cent reduction so that women with genuine ambition could come out for political positions but the party in its wisdom made the forms free”.

She said she had earlier made plans with other stakeholders to raise funds for women who had such ambitions.

“We are in collaboration with organisation such as Women in Business that pledges to sponsor anyone we put forward. “What the women need do is to come forward, make their interests known and we’ll purchase the forms for them,” Ikeazor said.

NAN reports that the expression of interest form fee for presidential aspirant in the party is N2.5 million while the nomination form fee is N25 million.

The governorship aspirants are to pay N500, 000 for expression of interest forms and N5 million for nomination forms.

Aspirants to the Senate are expected to pay N300, 000 for expression of interest forms and another N3 million for nomination.

House of Assembly aspirants are also expected to pay N550, 000 for expression of interest forms and N500, 000 for nomination forms while women aspirants to any of the positions will collect the forms free.

Minister’s Aide Picks Reps Form, Lauds Jonathan, PDP For Level Playing Field

Comrade Tosin Adeyanju, an aide to the Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, says a level-playing field for all aspirants by President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the PDP has opened up the process for quality representation.

Adeyanju stated this after picking the PDP House of Representatives nomination form over the weekend in Lokoja, Kogi State to represent Kabba-Bunu-Ijumu Federal Constituency. He is the first aspirant from his constituency to pick the form.

“A level playing field for all aspirants allowed by President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of our great party is a unique opportunity for me to serve the good people of My constituency and Nigeria in general.

“I have picked my form to demonstrate my seriousness and resolve to win the PDP ticket. I got to know at the PDP office in Lokoja that I was the first person to pick the form from my constituency, an indication of commitment to this project.

“Let me state that I am also encouraged by the overwhelming support I enjoyed from party faithful and the goodwill of the illustrious sons and daughters of Okunland who are my pillars.

The youth activist promised to work hard and partner stakeholders to address numerous challenges facing his people as well as secure their stake of his people in the Commonwealth of Nigeria if elected

“We have problems with roads and power in our constituency, If I am given the mandate of my people, I will work hard in partnership with Senator Smart Adeyemi and lobby the National Assembly to address these problems.

It was announced at the rally that more than 17 million Nigerians have endorsed President Goodluck
Jonathan for a second term in office based on signatures collected byTAN).
Anyim Pius Anyim, the secretary to the government of the federation made the announcement while speaking at the rally.

Bayo Oluwasanmi: From Activist To Candidate, ‘Serving Others Is The Greatest Reward Of All’

Abiola Falayajo Jr.: From Activist to Candidate, ‘Serving Others is The Greatest Reward of All’

By Bayo Oluwasanmi

It is easy to blame Nigerian abroad social media critics, arm chair theorists, bedroom revolutionaries for not running for elective office in Nigeria.

They are often blamed for their seeming lack of political engagement. They are often faulted as consumed by materialism, devoted to spending their time writing criticisms on Facebook and self-involved tweets, and lacking intellectual and political curiosity.

Not true. The fault lies with the Nigerian political system and politicians whose behavior has turned off an entire generation. Our elected officials cheer failed policies and programs, stymie economic and social development. They stunt job creation, induce poverty, sponsor corruption, exploit their constituents, and refuse to do their jobs.

They engage in more than hyperbole and hyper-partisanship. They damage the public’s short-term sense of political trust and confidence, and in the long term, they undermine future generations to be a part of. It is this outrage that drives the political entrepreneurship of Abiola Falayajo Jr., fondly call AFJ, to transit as it were, from activist to candidate. AFJ is running as All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Osun State House of Assembly representing Oriade Local Government.

But why should anyone run for political office? This is the universal question gets asked often by people. The answer is that there are as many reasons as there are candidates. Some of the often-cited reasons are change of the status quo, money, power, influence, and lack of good candidates.

There are some candidates who just love politics, having been perennial observers and now see an opportunity to run. Many people run for public office because a local issue has them upset or because they have a vision for the country/constituency and feel that the current officials are holding it back. Some people run for elective office because they are asked to.

Certainly, some run for the office for the trappings that come with the job, while others insist on helping their territory back home. Candidates seem to have a stock answer: they want to make their country/constituency a better place.

AFJ is running because he cares about his community and the state at large. He wants to go back, reach back, and give back to his community and his state. To him, serving others is the greatest reward of all.

Like everything else, our government has everything backwards and upside down. In a true democracy, the people are in charge, not the elected officials. Elected leaders are public servants and should do the will of the public. That is not happening now. The so-called elected officials spend much of their time and our money serving themselves and their party or support group.

Born December 30, 1976 in Ipetu Ijesa to the family of Pa Samson Abiola Falayajo and Alhaja Muyibati Oyedele Falayajo, AFJ became an orphan before he was old enough to enroll in elementary school. He was raised by his uncle the late Pa Samuel Adetunji Falayajo.

AFJ attended St. Peter’s elementary school Lagos. Later, he attended the famous Boy’s Academy, Lagos. In 1992, he proceeded to the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly University of Ife), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria to read International Relations. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in 1998 and Master’s degree in 2002 in International Relations from the same university.AFJ moved to Australia in 2002. A registered psychiatry nurse in Australia and Canada, he obtained his B.Sc. Nursing in 2008 from the University of South Australia, Adelaide. In 2011, he completed his postgraduate diploma in nursing science at the La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia.

Between 1999 and 2002, he served as assistant project officer and later as project officer at the Forum on Governance and Democratization, Ile-Ife, with focus on women and youth participation in democracy.

He began his activism as a student, and his early political activism excelled on many levels at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). A strong advocate for social change, AFJ was the leader of the Movement for Social Justice (MSJ), a major political association on the university campus in the 1990s. He held various positions in the university students union – chairman budgetary and finance, financial secretary, and president of the International Relations Students Association of OAU.

After the return of democracy to Nigeria in 1999, AFJ pitched his tent with the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and finally with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A well-traveled activist, AFJ activism is focused on education, political, and economic empowerment, and building engaged communities to solve various socio-economic and political problems.

His student life was synonymous with political activism. He participated in International Student Festival in Trondheim, Norway in 2001 and 2005, International Student Week in llmenau, llmenau, Germany, 2001 and 2003, United Nations Youth Assembly Sydney, Australia, 2004, International Student Security Forum, Switzerland, 2005, International Youth Leadership Conference, Czech Republic, 2002, and International Student Week in Tanzania, 2004.

In 2004, AFJ set up Obokun Development Initiative (now Alajobi Development Initiative) to serve as economic incubator to stimulate educational and economic growth and job creation in rural areas of Osun State. Some of the ongoing projects of ADI includes community healthcare center in Ipetu-Ijesa, drinkable borehole water in Ikeji Ile. He established annual scholarship for 10 students in Ijesaland.

AFJ is greatly influenced by the life of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Thomas Sankara, Martin Luther King Jr., Wole Soyinka, Hezekiah Oluwasanmi, Mobolaji Bank-Anthony, M.K. Abiola, Gani Fawehinmi, Oby Ezekwesili, and Samuel Ajayi Crowther.

AFJ is the Speaker of Ijesa Peoples Parliament a political action group in Diaspora dedicated to the improvement, development, and rebuilding of Ijesa towns and villages. Vice-President Europe & Australia Ijesa People in Diaspora, VP (Australasia) and member of Trustee of Ijesaland Development Foundation, President, Osun Patriots, Director of Organization, Ife-Ijesa Consultative Forum, Organizing Chair, Yoruba Heritage and Cultural Association of Victoria, Inc., Australia. In 2011, he was appointed International Representative for South-East Asia and Oceania region of the Nigerian Hockey Federation.

AFJ is the publisher of 24/7 west.com, an online media outfit with focus on the south west Nigeria. He is also the editor of the Australian Legacy magazine, an Afro-Australian publication.

AFJ is incredibly frustrated with the current state of affairs in Oriade Local Government in particular and Osun State in general, and growing increasingly depressed about the future political prospects of his constituency. He believes he must throw himself into that process. He believes at a minimum, he’ll be able to get a wider audience for his ideas and views. At maximum, he believes he would win and get a huge audience for his views and be able to directly affect his desired change.

AFJ also believes he could inspire others to run, influence other candidates to pick up certain policy points from him in going forward. Candidates, his opponents in particular, are always acting like experience is important, that the most experienced politician is the best qualified for office.

The opposite is true. The longer someone is in politics, the better they are at politics, not better at running a state or a constituency. They also cannot help but get deeper into corruption. If the candidate has been in political office just a few times before, it is a good thing, because we can see how good or bad they were. But newcomers can do the job just as well, and this has been proven over time.

The most important things are honesty, integrity, and intelligence, not experience. Candidates should spend their time figuring out how to make the lives of people of Oriade Local Government and Osun State in general better when they get in office. They should not be spending their time figuring out how to make their lives better, raise money, and promise favors when they get in office, but they have to do this now to stay in the game.

We want the best leaders and managers in office, not the best politicians. Our current political system creates great politicians, wheelers and dealers, not necessarily great leaders or problem solvers. AFJ believes we have to turn that around now.

Everyone will be happy when things begin to change, even crooks, because most crooked politicians really do not want to be crooks. They just think they have to be crooked to win, and they are right. Most people think the ends justify the means because it works.

Cheating works, and it should not. The reason even the crook will welcome a new fair system is they are beginning to wake up to the fact they are going to die along with everyone else if we do not make the change and make it fast. The survival of every one depends on it.

The way it is now, the biggest hypocrites, liars, and best deal makers win. AFJ will work with progressive elements in Osun State House of Assembly to change things so that honesty works, and everyone will benefit. Until then, the bad guy wins too often, and we all lose, even the bad guys, things must change soon.

When a leader projects purpose and passion for his vision, he creates an atmosphere of expectancy among the people. AFJ has created such expectancy while campaigning in all the 12 Wards of Oriade Local Government:

  1. A sense of destiny: He communicates a sense of better future, the belief that they’re in this together.
  2. A sense of family: He is able to convince the people that they’re joined together as a family by his vision – a vision of a better tomorrow.
  3. A militant spirit: He assured them that he’ll match his representation with a militancy that the urgency of the task ahead demands.
  4. Connection: AFJ knows how to connect with the grassroots. He speaks their language. He expressed empathy and compassion for their predicament, and brings courage to their pursuits.

AFJ has been able to articulate his vision emphasizing that instead of contagious selfishness, there should be contagious servanthood. He told them that to get ahead, put others first. His vision rest squarely on four cardinal points: Education, healthcare, youth employment, women empowerment, and better life for seniors.

AFJ will champion equitable, accessible, and quality education for all school age children in order to develop their skills and intellect. Highly qualified teachers with better conditions of service will be given the support and all the necessary tools to do their job.

As a rep of Oriade Local Government, AFJ will make urgent healthcare reform his first priority. He’ll fight for provision of free healthcare for all the people of Osun State. Well-equipped modern hospitals and healthcare centers staffed with qualified doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers will be the standard in Oriade Local Government.

Unemployment is the number one killer of our youth. AFJ will initiate bills for job creation and government guaranteed loans for small businesses. He’ll also scout around for foreign and local investors who are interested in citing industries in Oriade Local Government.

Our women are very resourceful and creative. Our women should be empowered to achieve their dreams in the areas of education, business, politics, and other socio-economic ventures. AFJ in concert with likeminded reps, would make women empowerment a focus of the state government.

On our seniors, old age should not mean death sentence in any form. Our seniors have the right to live a decent life in their twilight years. Toward this end, AFJ would spearhead “Better Life for Seniors” program that will ensure decent housing, retirement plans, payment of pensions as at due, and improvement in geriatric health care services.

As a rep, AFJ will quickly build a clout and form a caucus with other progressives in the house to deal with organized nonsense in governance that hinders solutions to constituents’ problems.

He exudes integrity and honesty that will serve him well. He will be a leading voice in the chorus for social change, economic development and prosperity for the majority of Oriade people who live in the rural areas.

Oriade constituency needs a representative with patience and perceptivity to look into a troubled situation, discern the problem, and then do what it takes to correct the difficulty. In short, Oriade needs a troubleshooter in order to grow and develop. Results with resolve – AFJ is the right candidate!

Wizkid Reiterates How Much He Loves Samklef, Replies Saeon

Nigerian singer, Wizkid has been in the news of late for various reasons. First, Samklef questioned his loyalty and then singer, Saeon suggested he didn’t help promote the track which they did together, Boogie Down.

According to Wizkid, Samklef remains like a brother to him and will always be someone he loves. He stated that he did not really understand what went wrong as the producer was even in house just a fortnight ago.

When asked about Saeon’s recent statements which were targeted at him, he laughed and then explained that he did what she wanted him to do which was make a hit track for her and then show up for the video. He was quick to note that Saeon is not his friend and they never spoke to each other until she came to him through someone asking him to jump on her song. Wizkid however did not deny collecting money from her but revealed that he even gave her a discount and she should be grateful. According to the singer who is also the label executive of Star Boy records, it took Saeon up to a month before she even saw him.
