Panic in Nigeria’s security as the Government blocks the entrance into Abuja to prevent “external aggressors” from infiltrating the nation’s capital

Combined security forces drawn from the Guards Brigade and the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Police have mounted more roadblocks at the entry points of the nation’s capital, Daily Trust reports.

The development, which arose from the ongoing protest being led by the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, caused heavy traffic gridlock around Bwari, Zuba, Nyanya axis and other entry points to the nation’s capital.

The road that connects Bwari to the City Centre was blocked at the War College Area in Ushafa and at Dutse-Sokale area – a development that has made some workers stranded.

Earlier, the operatives only mounted road blocks at strategic places leading to the Presidential Villa, National Assembly, Court of Appeal Headquarters, Force Headquarters and the popular Eagle Square.

But a security source tells DailyTrust, said the blockade of some roads in the outskirts of FCT became imperative to prevent “external aggressors” from infiltrating the nation’s capital.

The development comes amid the alleged coup plot to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu.

“Every motorist entering the City Centre is being screened now. This is to separate infiltrators from the genuine Nigerians and law-abiding citizens. We can’t afford to allow unrest in the seat of powers,” the security official explained.

Another officer revealed that an intelligence revealed that the protesters were currently restrategising and may likely mobilise more street urchins to carry their mission.

A civil servant, Isaac Babalola, in an interview with our correspondent, said he was forced to return back home because of the traffic jam at the War College Camp in Ushafa.

He also confirmed that security operatives were thoroughly checking vehicles going to town, causing serious traffic jam.

Omoyele Sowore, has urged Nigerians to join a nationwide protest demanding the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu

0

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has urged Nigerians to join a nationwide protest demanding the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, despite a court order restricting demonstrations around key government areas in Abuja.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday morning, Sowore called on citizens to take to the streets in peaceful protest.

“Good morning, wherever you may be this morning, do not stop moving. Carry a sign, sing a song, make a statement!” he wrote.

He had earlier shared a message on Sunday night welcoming participants to the protest tagged#FreeNnamdiKanuNow.

“We warmly welcome everyone who has travelled from far and wide to join the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest tomorrow. Your courage, sacrifice, and solidarity speak volumes. Together, we are writing history,” he wrote.

Sowore announced that protesters would converge in front of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, at 7 am, urging them to “come ready, come peaceful, come determined.”

He also shared a Facebook post that read, “We want to put one million people on the streets of Abuja tomorrow for #FreeNnamdiKanuNow — let’s make it happen.”

However, the planned march comes in defiance of an interim injunction issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which restrained Sowore and other organisers from protesting in or around sensitive government areas, including the Presidential Villa, National Assembly Complex, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

Reacting to the reported order on Saturday, Sowore questioned its legitimacy and the perceived double standards of law enforcement.

“Suppose a court order truly exists restricting protests around Aso Rock Villa; it begs the question: why hasn’t the same police force obtained a similar order against those protesting freely for three consecutive days opposing Nnamdi Kanu’s release?” Sowore asked.

“The hypocrisy is glaring. The double standards are undeniable,” he added.

The activist disclosed that his legal team, comprising 115 lawyers, would challenge the alleged court order once it is formally served on Monday.

He maintained that the planned October 20 #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest would proceed as a peaceful and lawful march, declaring, “October 20 #FreeNnamdiKanuNow remains sacrosanct. We march peacefully, lawfully, and powerfully.”

The demonstration also coincides with the fifth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests of October 2020, which culminated in the alleged Lekki Toll Gate massacre — a period now remembered for its call for police reform and justice for victims of brutality.

Popular Nigerian Juju musician, Oluwashina Akanbi Peters popularly known as Sir Shina Peters, has spoken candidly about his private life, revealing that he has his first child at the age of 14.

In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the Afrojuju crooner explained that he started his career at the age of 10 and achieved success very early.

“I started my career at the age of 10. I had my first child at 14. I bought my first car at 13. I built my first house at 16,” he said.

The 67-year-old, however, shut down the possibility of him making a comeback to the music industry, stressing that the environment is no longer “conducive” for him to record anymore.

Sir Shina Peters noted that his fans cuts across ethnic groups, claiming that he has more Igbo fans than Yoruba fans.

In Akwa Ibom, Medical doctors endorse Governor Eno for a second term after he increased their salary

0

Medical doctors and other healthcare professionals in Akwa Ibom State would enjoy the best salaries and welfare packages under the new wage regime to be announced by the state government, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) disclosed this to journalists at the weekend.

The chairman of the NMA, Dr. Aniekan Peter, who unfolded this at a press conference at Doctors’ Mess, Udoudoma Avenue, Uyo, the state capital, said the new pay package being worked out by the head of Civil Service (HoCS), Elder Effiong Essien, would place Akwa Ibom doctors among the highest earners in the country.

“Akwa Ibom doctors will be number one, or second highest earners in salary and other emoluments when the new pay package currently being worked out by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service (HoCS) of the state is concluded,”  Peter stated.

Consequently, the association has passed a vote of confidence on the governor, affirming the support of its members in his quest for a second term.

A communique issued by NMA to mark the National Physician Week 2025, and in appreciation of the governor’s magnanimity for the new welfare package for medical doctors and other healthcare workers, applauded the decision, saying it would  restrain the drift abroad of medical personnel for greener pastures and key reforms in the sector.

The National Physicians Week, according to Dr. Peter, is entitled: “A Celebration of Excellence in Healthcare: Honouring the Heart of Healthcare.”

He disclosed that the celebration became necessary in order to celebrate the painstaking contributions of the healthcare workers to saving lives, but at risk of several workspace challenges confronting then with poor emoluments and welfare packages.

“Their (medical workers’) dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional care have a profound impact on the lives of their patients.

“Unfortunately, in Nigeria, the work of physicians is often undervalued and underappreciated. Many doctors are overworked, with long hours and large patient loads. This takes a toll on their physical and mental well-being, leading to burnout and exhaustion,’ he said.

Governor of Anambra state, Prof Charles Soludo, has reiterated his stance that he does not believe in Biafra’s separatist view or agitation

0

Governor of Anambra state, Prof Charles Soludo, has reiterated his stance that he does not believe in Biafra’s separatist view or agitation.

He disclosed this during a Channels Television interview on Sunday.

This comes as he said he would discuss with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, for an alternative vision for Igbo land after his release.

Soludo, who is seeking reelection as governor of Anambra state, noted that Igbos need Nigeria the way the country needs Igbos.

He, however, did not kick against the 20th October 2025 protest for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

“For me, I believe very strongly that, of course, the agitation and separatist view in Igboland – for me, as a full-blooded Igbo man, I don’t believe that. But I want us to have a discussion. I am of the view that the Igbo man needs Nigeria; Nigeria needs the Igbo man.

“When Nnamdi Kanu comes out, we are all going to sit down at a round table and interrogate our alternative vision for Igbo land,” he said.

This comes as Omoyele Sowore is staging a nationwide protest to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

The IPOB leader was rearrested in Kenya and has been in the custody of the Department of State Services.

Report: A former governor under investigation for his alleged connection to the army officers detained over an alleged coup plot

A former governor from one of the southern states is said to be under investigation for his alleged connection to the army officers detained over an alleged coup plot.

Sources who spoke to Daily Trust yesterday, hinted that there was suspicion that the former governor financed the alleged plot, which was reported to have been scheduled for October 25.

Multiple news organisations including NewsWireNGR at the weekend, reported that the 16 officers who the Defence Headquarters said were arrested for certain unprofessional conduct, were being investigated over an alleged plan to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Some of the detainees, including a Brigadier-General, a Colonel and others below that rank were reported to be officers attached to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

One of our sources disclosed that the report of the planned coup attempt was true.

“Yes, that is true. There are civilian accomplices, including a former governor, but the extent of their involvement is being investigated.  For now, there are 16 officers involved and in custody,” he stated.

The source added that the “former civilian governor being investigated over the matter is also a former operative in the oil and gas sector, but his involvement has not been confirmed.”

One of the sources said the investigators were trying to establish the nature of the former governor’s recent interactions with the detained officers.

He said the former governor might be invited for interrogation should credible links between him and the detained officers be established.

It has been reported that the investigation is being coordinated by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), with representation from the three services of the Armed Forces.

“Members of the probe panel are very senior officers, headed by a major general. The comprehensive list of officers being investigated is highly guarded,” he said.

Our sources also stated that the Brigadier-General being referred to is from Niger State.

“The Colonel from Nasarawa State that is being investigated is also from a very influential family. His father is a traditional ruler in Nasarawa State and a brother of former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura,” the source added.

Findings in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, revealed that members of the Al-Makura family are worried.

“He is my uncle,” a family member told Daily Trust last night.

“The entire family is in distress. I am personally worried…The wife of the officer is worried.

“Our prayer is may they not be found guilty of the allegation,” the family member said.

Daily Trust further gathered that more officers have been picked for questioning over their remote or direct connection with the alleged coup plan.

“Aside from the former governor, there are other influential politicians from both north and southern parts of the country that are being watched,” said another source.

On Saturday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau, described the reports alleging that the country’s 65th independence anniversary activities were cancelled over an attempted coup plot as false and misleading.

It urged the public to disregard the misinformation being circulated by who it described as purveyors of falsehoods and enemies of the nation.

The statement, titled ‘DHQ Never Mentioned Any Coup Attempt’, read:  “The attention of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has been drawn to a false and misleading report by an online publication insinuating that the cancellation of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary was linked to an alleged attempted military coup. The report also made spurious references to the recent DHQ press release announcing the arrest of sixteen officers currently under investigation for professional misconduct.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) wishes to categorically state that the claims by the said publication are entirely false, malicious, and intended to cause unnecessary tension and distrust among the populace. The decision regarding the cancellation of 65th independence anniversary parade  was  to allow Mr President attend a strategic bilateral meeting outside the country and for members of the AFN to sustain the momentum on the fight against terrorism, insurgency and banditry.

“Furthermore, the DHQ wishes to reassure Nigerians that the ongoing investigation involving the sixteen officers is a routine internal process aimed at ensuring discipline and professionalism is maintained within the ranks. An investigative panel has been duly constituted, and its findings would be made public.

“The DHQ calls on all peace loving citizens to continue to provide necessary support to the security agents. The FG, the legislature and the judiciary are working closely for the safety, development and wellbeing of the nation. Democracy is forever.

“The DHQ urges members of the public to disregard the falsehood being circulated by the purveyors of misinformation and enemies of our nation. The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains firmly loyal to the Constitution and the Federal government under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”

The October 4 statement by the military

Daily Trust recalled that on October 4, 2025, the military high command issued a statement titled “update/press statement on the breach of security in the country: Sixteen officers to face military justice for indiscipline, breach of service regulations”.

The statement, signed by Brigadier General Gusau, opened the floodgate for the stories on the alleged coup plot.

It said: “Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to inform the public that a routine military exercise has resulted in the arrest of sixteen officers over issues of indiscipline and breach of service regulations. Investigations have revealed that their grievances stemmed largely from perceived career stagnation caused by repeated failure in promotion examinations, among other issues.

“Some of the apprehended officers had been under jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial. Their conduct was deemed incompatible with the standards of military service.

“Upon completion of investigation indicted officers will face the full military disciplinary process in accordance with established procedures to ensure accountability and preserve professionalism within the Armed Forces.

“The Armed Forces wishes to assure the general public that these actions are strictly disciplinary in nature and part of routine efforts to maintain order, discipline, and loyalty within the ranks.

“The Armed Forces will not tolerate behaviour that undermines the integrity of the institution or threatens its constitutional role under democratic authority. The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains fully committed to its constitutional responsibilities and will remain professional at all times,” the statement said.

But a credible source said the statement was carefully crafted after wide consultations with stakeholders.

“Based on the advice by the Attorney General of the federation, the whole thing was toned down so that it doesn’t create apprehension for the citizens, investors and the international community.

“It was doctored to appear routine. However, investigation and prosecution must still take place. The COAS (chief of army staff) went to see Mr President in Lagos yesterday (October 3) and returned. He showed him (Tinubu) the preliminary report and the press release before he authorized it,” the source said.

Report: Kidnappers have abducted a primary school teacher, Ishaya Ismaila, while he was harvesting maize at his farm in Abuja

0

Kidnappers have abducted a primary school teacher, Ishaya Ismaila, while he was harvesting maize at his farm, DailyTrust Newspaper reports.

A resident of Tungan Maje, Abdullahi Garba, said the incident happened while the victim was harvesting his maize around 5:28 pm,  on Thursday.

He said the kidnappers, wielding sophisticated weapons, emerged from the bush and whisked him away.

Garba said the victim, who had gone to the farm on a motorcycle, screamed when the kidnappers struck. This, he said, attracted the attention of another farmer, who sighted the kidnappers.

He said the other farmer narrowly escaped to the village to report the incident.

“The teacher was busy harvesting maize when the kidnappers, wielding AK-47 rifles, suddenly emerged and whisked him away. It was when they were leading him out of the farm that he screamed, which attracted the attention of another farmer who sighted the kidnappers and escaped back home to report,” he said.

Garba added that the victim teaches at the Local Education Authority (LEA) Dakwa 1 in Bwari Area Council but resides in Tungan Maje with his family.

Meanwhile, the wife of the abducted class teacher, Mrs. Halima Ishaya, said the entire family has been thrown into confusion and depression following her husband’s abduction by kidnappers at the farm.

Mrs. Ishaya, who spoke to Abuja Metro by telephone on Saturday, narrated that her husband went to the farm on his bike to harvest maize when she suddenly received a distress call on Thursday night that he had been kidnapped.

“I was at home when I received a call from the head teacher of the school in Dakwa that my husband has been abducted at the farm,” she said.

She said that upon receiving the call, she alerted some neighbours who helped her reach out to the vigilante in neighbouring Anagada village.

She said the vigilante immediately mobilized to the farm but were unlucky as the kidnappers had already left with her husband. Only her husband’s motorcycle and a bag of maize were found at the farm.

“And that same night, we reported to the police before they joined the vigilante to the farm and took pictures of the motorcycle and bag of maize and left, but up till now, we haven’t heard anything from the police again,” she said.

Mrs. Ishaya disclosed that the family has been struggling to see how they can raise the N1 million ransom being demanded by the kidnappers for her husband’s release.

“So far, only N185,000 has been raised, and the family is in confusion as we don’t even know where to start. Hence, we are calling on good Samaritans to come to our aid,” she said amid tears on the phone.

Victim’s school head confirms incident, ransom demand

The head teacher of the LEA Primary School, Dakwa 1, Malam Zakari Dantani, where the victim teaches, confirmed the abduction of the teacher when he spoke to our reporter by telephone on Saturday night.

He said he received a distress call on Thursday night about the abduction, adding that he immediately alerted the Kubwa branch chairman of the Nigeria Union Teachers (NUT) and some of their colleagues in the school.

The head teacher, however, disclosed that the incident had been reported to security operatives.

He also said a contact has been established with the abductors, who are demanding N1 million ransom.

“So, I have also informed the wife of the victim, who resides in Tungan Maje, about the ransom, while the branch chairman of Kubwa NUT and the state wing of the union were also informed about the incident,” he said.

A teacher in the school, who preferred anonymity, also confirmed his colleague’s abduction at the Tungan Maje farm on Thursday.

He said the teachers were struggling to see how they could contribute money to ensure the victim regains freedom unhurt.

“Even as I am talking to you right now, some of the victim’s colleagues have started contributing money, even as the country is hard, to see that the victim regains his freedom from the hands of his abductors,” he said.

The source also disclosed that a bank account had been made public to solicit financial support from the public so that N1 million can be raised to meet the kidnappers’ demands.

Senator Ned Nwoko Breaks Silence in Explosive Statement on Estranged wife, Regina Daniels

The dramatic public conflict within the household of Senator Ned Nwoko intensified dramatically when the billionaire politician issued a sweeping statement early on Sunday, October 19, 2025, titled: “Regina’s Unprovoked Carnage and Rampage in My House and in My Absence.”

Nwoko’s statement directly countered the prevailing narrative of domestic abuse, claiming that actress Regina Danielswas the actual source of the violence and destruction due to substance abuse.

The Senator’s Allegations of Drug Abuse and Violence

Senator Nwoko laid the blame for the marital turmoil squarely on his wife, stating, “Regina was not always like this. Her current battle with drugs and alcohol abuse is the root of our problem.”

  • He vehemently denied being the aggressor, noting he has “other wives, and none will ever accuse me of violence. Regina is the violent one here.” He further accused her of “slapping and hitting 3 staff in the past 48 hours and destroying property, including cars and windows, for no just cause.”
  • The Senator claimed his attempts to seek help for his wife were refused. His condition for their relationship is that she “accept rehab in Asokoro or outside Nigeria, especially Jordan, where she will not have access to drugs.” He expressed fear for her safety, stating, “She must continue her rehabilitation program, or I fear for her life and safety.”
  • Nwoko alleged that a “clear headed Regina would have taken Moon [their son] to the hospital,” but instead, she “even threatened to kill our resident nurse (for exposing her drugs abuse).”
  • He closed by naming her brother, Sammy, as her “main drug supplier,” alongside a second alleged source, “the tiny evil devil called Ann.”

Regina Daniels’ Allegations and Her Brother’s Fierce Defense

Senator Nwoko’s explosive claims followed an intense public outcry ignited by Regina Daniels and her brother.

  • Regina’s Distress: The crisis first spilled into the public eye with a viral video showing a tearful and distressed Regina, who openly referenced the violence she was allegedly facing. She was heard shouting, “I can’t stand the violence, it’s too much,” and lamenting her status in the marriage: “In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing, but in my own house, I am a Queen.”
  • Brother’s Outrage: Regina’s brother, Sammy West, immediately took to social media to support his sister and issue a scathing threat to the Senator.
  • He wrote: “Makachi, e pain me say una wan finally laugh my sister… Senator Ned Nwoko, you get luck say after you beat my sister again, smash her head for wall, you wan comot send thugs! I swear I for burst all your jaw.” Sammy’s public defense directly accused the Senator of physical battery, setting the stage for Nwoko’s dramatic counter-statement.

The conflicting public statements leave the family at a stark impasse, with both sides levelling grave accusations of violence and betrayal.

Billionaire, Ned Nwoko steps out in public with 5th wife, Laila Charani amidst domestic violence allegations by estranged wife, Regina Daniels

Nigerian actress Regina Daniels’ marriage to Senator Ned Nwoko became the subject of intense public scrutiny following reports of allegations of domestic violence and emotional revelations regarding her marital experience.

Amid this domestic turmoil and widespread media coverage, the senator made a notable public appearance.

  • Senator Ned Nwoko attended an award ceremony alongside his fifth wife, Laila Charani.
  • The couple appeared together as Nwoko was honored with a plaque recognizing him as the Best Performing Senator of the Year.
  • In his acceptance speech, Ned Nwoko dedicated the award to the people of Anioma and Delta North.

The timing of this high-profile public outing with Laila Charani, juxtaposed against the backdrop of the serious allegations reportedly made by Regina Daniels, sparked a significant wave of mixed reactions and commentary online regarding the state of the senator’s household.

Nollywood actress Regina Daniels to billionaire politician Senator Ned Nwoko was on Saturday, thrust back into the social media spotlight following the circulation of a sensational and unverified quote alleging marital abuse.

The quote, which rapidly went viral across platforms, was attributed to the actress, stating:

“In Ned Nwoko’s house I am nothing, but in my own house I am a queen… Not again, I cannot stand the violence, it is too much.”

This dramatic statement, allegedly from a breakdown by Daniels as she “opens up about her troubled marriage,” reignited long-simmering public speculation over the stability and safety of the controversial union.

As of the current time, there has been no official statement from Regina Daniels, Senator Ned Nwoko, their representatives, or the Nigeria Police Force regarding the alleged incident.

The immediate silence on such a high-profile, serious allegation is only adding to the public tension and calls for clarity.
