Breaking: Long queues of petrol return to filling stations in Abuja

Long queues have returned to filling stations in Abuja, causing gridlock in areas that are affected.

NewsWireNGR Correspondent reports that while some filling stations were not dispensing as of Tuesday morning, a few others dispensing were besieged by motorists.

The situation led to long queues which also affected the free flow of traffic affected in areas. “I just woke up to this and I am not sure i knew this was going to happen i’d have planned,” a motorists, Abubakar Sani tells NewsWireNGR.

Sani said the situation “is not looking good as the attendants at some point had to stop selling”, he said he wanted to leave but a friend he had called told him, “it is better to stay put, because I am already in a line, all over Abuja there is no fuel, why leave here to join another queue”.?

On Herbert Macaulay Way, Central Business District, a long queue was seen at Conoil filling station that was dispensing as of the time newsmen visited.

Total filling station on the same road was not dispensing as of press time but motorists were already on a long queue, anticipating that the fuel attendants could start dispensing any time.

NewsWireNGR recalls that, last week, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) had warned of a looming petroleum scarcity in the country, following attacks on fuel tankers and the disruption of depot operations across the country by hoodlums who had hijacked the #EndSARS protests.

This disclosure was made by the Chairman of IPMAN in Rivers State, Dr. Joseph Obele, while speaking on a live radio program in Port Harcourt on Friday, October 23, 2020.

Obele disclosed that about 10 petroleum tankers belonging to its members were attacked and destroyed across the country by these hoodlums during the protests, although he noted that there had been no fatalities.

He said the scarcity of petroleum products could be inevitable if the situation failed to improve before filling stations exhausted their stocks.
