Spending Spree: Chelsea Transfer Deals for January 2023 Transfer Window

Chelsea football club was busy all through the 2023 January transfer window shopping for players to fortify the team.

The club’s new owner, American billionaire Todd Boehly has been gracious in spending to make sure funding is not a problem to lure players to Stamford bridge.

The team led by head coach Graham Potter has been 10th on the premier league table, but that is not a distraction for the spending spree the club has done in January.

The team beat the deadline to secure their latest signing, Enzo Fernandez, for a British-record deal of £106.8m from Benfica.

Below is a list of the signings that were added to the Chelsea team in January 2023

Enzo Fernandez – £106.8m

Enzo Fernandez, a midfielder, was acquired by Chelsea from Benfica for a British-record £106.8 million.

The 22-year-old, who joined Benfica last summer for over £10 million, was signed by Chelsea for an eight and a half years deal that will see him wear the club’s badge till the summer of 2031.

Enzo’s deal exceeds the £100 million Manchester City spent Aston Villa for Jack Grealish 18 months ago.

Mudryk – £88.5m

The signing of Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea took a dramatic turn at its initial stage when Arsenal was also in the race to acquire the star.

However, Chelsea’s deal of £88.5m was able to lure him to the club and commit the next eight-and-a-half-year deal to the London Club.

Joao Felix – £9.7million fee plus 100% wages

In its signing spree, Chelsea was also able to sign Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid for the remainder of the season.

Chelsea led the race ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal to attract the Portuguese to Stamford Bridge.

Badiashile – £35m

The Blues spend £35m on Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile in a £35m deal on a seven-and-a-half-year contract.

The 21-year-old french defender is considered one of the best young left-footed centre-backs in Europe.

Noni Madueke – £29m

Madueke was previously a badge bearer of English sides  Crystal Palace and Tottenham before heading to PSV.

He caught the attention of Chelsea’s scout while at PSV, and the 20 years old winger penned down a seven-and-a-half-year contract.

Malo Gusto – £26.3m

Lyon right back Malo Gusto was signed by Chelsea for £26.3m in a deal that will span seven-and-a-half-year

However, Malo is expected to finish the 2022/23 season with Lyon.

Andrey Santos – £11million

Vasco da Gama youngster Santos joins Chelsea on a long-term deal. The teenager is acquired for £11 million to begin his spell with Chelsea.

Santos ended his Vasco career with 38 appearances and eight goals.

Fofana – £10 million

Chelsea has completed the signing of David Datro Fofana from Norwegian champions Molde on a deal until 2029 with an option to extend for a further year.

Fofana had a successful spell in Norway, showing himself as a prolific goalscorer and one of European football’s most promising young talents.

His deal with Chelsea will span a six-and-a-half year.
