Movie streaming giant, Netflix, has denied reports it has pulled out of the Nigerian movie market.

NewsWireNGR gathered that several reports indicated that Netflix is exiting the Nigerian market like its main competitor, Amazon Prime did earlier in the year.

The reports were based on insinuations from the comment by Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan who spoke at the 2024 Zuma Film Festival.

Speaking about his movie Anikulapo which recorded a huge success on the streaming platform, Afolayan said; “Three years ago, when we signed the three-film deal with Netflix, it was really exciting”.

The filmmaker went on to share that despite the stellar performance of those movies globally, Netflix seemed unimpressed by their returns in Nigeria.

“Thank God we had shot seasons two and three [of Anikulapo] because all the other people that were commissioned with us at the same time were canceled.”

However, Netflix spokesman in a statement quoted by TechCabal denied it is exiting its second largest African market.

The spokesperson reaffirmed; “We are not exiting Nigeria. We will continue to invest in Nigerian stories to delight our audience.”
