Veteran Actor Olofa Ina: Biography, Age, Family, Career, Net Worth, and More

The Nigerian entertainment industry on Thursday, December 4, 2024, was thrown into a sad state as veteran Yoruba actor, Chief Adedeji Aderemi, popularly known as Baba Olofa Ina, died at age 73.

Who is Olofa Ina?

Olofa Ina was a popular Yoruba actor who made significant contributions to contemporary Yoruba theatre.

Baba Ola Ina’s real name is Adedeji Aderemi. He is also known by movie lovers as Baba Olowe.

Age

Chief Adedeji Aderemi “Olofa Ina” was born on May 15, 1950. He was 73 years old as of May 15, 2023 and expected to be 74 years old by May 15, 2024.

Unfortunately, the veteran actor died in January 2024 at the age of 73.

He is from Ede town in Osun state. Until his death, Aderemi “Olofa Ina” was the Sobaloju of Edeland.

Parents

Baba Olofa Ina’s parents are Late Mr Abdulsalam Aderemi and Late Mrs Aisha Aderemi of Jagun-Olukosi.

Education

Adedeji Aderemi attended St. Peters Anglican Primary School for his primary school education and later Baptist Secondary Modern School for his secondary school education.

Baba Olofa Ina diversified his skills by undergoing vocational training in carpentry and joinery at Olukorede Furniture Industry.

Career

Aside from being a carpenter, Baba Olafa Ina worked as a Grade II Officer with the Ministry of Works and Transport, Ibadan, from 1970 to 1977.

After this, he served as a Maintenance Officer with Daladson Hotel, Jericho Reservation, Idi-Isin, Oyo State, until 1980, when he retired to focus on full-time Theatre Arts Practice.

Before establishing himself in the world of theatre, Baba Olofa Ina founded the Olofa Ina Theatre Group in 1972, making significant strides by pioneering the staging of epical histories of Yoruba Warlords.

These productions were recorded by Nigerian Television (NTV) Ibadan in the 70s.

Controversy

In June 2021, during the sexual assault case involving his colleague, Olanrewaju James alias Baba Ijesha, he had said the saga cannot lead to a division among theatre practitioners.

“It can’t cause a division.

“The issue here is that the youngsters of today didn’t participate in associations, they met fortune on the ground.

“Those of us who suffered before we could earn a living in the business of theatre won’t want a division in our midst,” he said.

How did Baba Olafa Ina died?

The actor breathed his last on Thursday, December 4, 2024, in his hometown of Ede.

The news of his death was announced by a fellow and younger actors, film including producer and Chief Executive Officer of Best of Nollywood (BON), Seun Oloketuyi, actor Saidi Balogun and others on Instagram.

Saidi Balogun posted the late actor’s picture with a caption “Goodnight legend Chief Deji Akinremi (Olofa Ina) RIP.”

Meanwhile, the cause of his death is yet to be disclosed to the public.
