The ongoing governorship election in Kogi has recorded a mass turnout of voters in most polling units in Lokoja, the state capital of the state; on the other hand, low voter turnout, was recorded in some polling units, according to reports.

There were however election malpractise reports in some areas of the state.

Yiaga, an election observer group, reports that a pre-filled results sheet was discovered in PU 004, Eni Ward of Ogori/Magongo, in the state before the commencement of voting.

There was also a report of another case of pre-filled results sheet in PU 020, Eika/Ohizenyi, Okehi LGA of the state.

Party agents were also reported to be sharing money to voters to induce them to vote for their candidates in Lokoja.

The agents stationed themselves about 500 metres away from polling units, from where they shared money to voters to lure them to vote for their candidates.

The amount given to a voter ranges from N3000 to N5000 depending on his personality or bargaining power.

A voter was expected to present his Permanent Voter Card (PVC) as a precondition to collecting the money.

To avoid security agencies, the team sharing the money usually disappeared after sharing to a few people in a particular location only to convene in another location few minutes after.

Some of the beneficiaries told a NAN correspondent that they weren’t selling their votes by collecting the money, as they had already made up their minds to vote for the candidates.
