Trials of Chef Dammy, her Pastor Adegoke Jeremiah, fame, and now litigation worth N20,000,000 in damages

Chef Dammy’s pastor slams her with N20m defamation lawsuit, gives 7 days ultimatum

A cleric, Prophet Adegoke Jeremiah, aka Billion Dollars Prophet, has slammed a N20 million defamation suit against Nigerian chef Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dami.

Recall that the Ekiti-based chef earlier cried out that her life was in danger and her pastor (Prophet Jeremiah) should be held responsible should anything happen to her.

In response to the statement made by Chef Dammy on her Instagram page, the cleric has now sued for defamation. In a letter dated October 23, 2023, and signed by his lawyers, Bisayo Sule & Co Legal Practitioners, the Prophet sought a retraction of the defamatory remark on social media and two widely read national dailies, as well as payment of N20 million in damages.

The letter partly read, “In view of the incalculable damage you have done to the good reputation of our client, we demand a retraction of the libelous statement on all the social media particularly your Instagram page, and two (2) widely read national dailies.

“Additionally, we are demanding a sum of (Twenty Million Naira Only). “N20,000,000:00 being Damages for the act of Defamation against our client. “Take notice that you have seven (7) days from the date of service of this letter on you, the date of service inclusive to comply with our demand. “Failure of which we shall not hesitate to seek a redress in the court of law.”

In a lengthy Instagram post shared last Thursday, Dami claimed she also received “countless insults, curses, threats and bullying” messages from some individuals she referred to as “people of God”.

“By the time we are done with you, you will not be able to stand on your feet again” this was from the acclaimed “people of God”. Among many of the countless insults, curses, threats and bullying,” she wrote.

“Now, I understand the content of 1 Peter 4:17, Surely judgment will begin from the house of God.

“The first time the man of God tried to challenge my God he failed, then he told me to prepare for war.

“But these are the people of God, Are they not supposed to be Godly?

“Assuming I had died few days ago; people would’ve understood better what I’ve been facing, by the testimony of those around me. But I’ll still try and bind my piece because it is a testimony that others can learn from.

“I know about gods that is why I chose the undefeatable God. Surely they shall gather, but they that be with me are more than they that be with them.

“I’ve been in constant fear for my life.

“Countless times they’ve tried to destroy me as promised, but with God I keep moving as if nothing ever happened.

“Shouldn’t we have gotten over this?

“I mean it’s 4 months already, guess you will not stop until I stop breathing?”

In a follow-up post, the chef asked the public to “hold my pastor responsible in case anything happens to me”.

“I’ll be having an interview in Lagos soon. And I’m ready to let everything out once I get back,” she wrote.

“But in case anything happens to me; Adegoke Jeremiah A.K.A Billion Dollars Prophet, hold him responsible, he told me to prepare for war and we are both on it.”

The chef, however, did not share details of the nature of her misunderstanding with her pastor.
