Nigerian man, Best Nnanyereugo Benjamin, who was arrested by the police in Sierra Leone for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, in July 13, 2023, has confessed that he killed the 21-year-old woman.

Onuwabhagbe, an undergraduate student of Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State, South West Nigeria was reportedly stabbed during a physical violence by her lover, Benjamin which resulted to her untimely death at their residence in Ikota, Lagos State.

He was later arrested at a club in Freetown by the Sierra Leonean police on Friday.

While on the run from the law enforcement, Benjamin confessed to the crime through his Instagram account.

In a detailed confession in a series of screenshots, Benjamin expressed remorse for his actions, saying, “I deeply regret the series of events that led to this tragedy, born from a place of pain, betrayal, and toxic arguments. I wish it never happened. I didn’t plan any of this. After the incident, fear took over, and I ran away.”

“I am prepared to face the consequences, even if it means death. Taking a life can never be justified, and I am ready to be held accountable for my actions.”

He stated in his confession post: “I got into an argument with my girlfriend @austa xxo which fight I mistakenly stabbed her and ran away out of fear and been suicidal since then. I want intend to end my life now cause I have lost the one o cherish so much.

“I want to do the right thing and turn myself in. I will gladly die by paying with my life now. I have failed myself, I have failed my mom, I have failed my family. Oh lorddddd I can’t believe this.

“I can’t leave with this guilt, I’m going crazy, nothing to kind again and I will say nothing but the truth all from the beginning to what brought us here.

“I’m not a bad person I swear I’m not a bad person. But with what has happened I think i deserve nothing but death. I will gladly die, by hanging, by shooting, whichever way fate has for me I’m willing.

“I can’t live with this guilt knowing the girl I loved so much died in my own hands. Oh Gooooooood why this What do I do now. I deserve death, I want to dieee. I want no sympathy. I want no pity. I’m truly down and broken from what has happened and I deserve nothing but death. Yes I truly do and want too for her soul to rest in peace.

“I will turn myself in I promise.”

Meanwhile, after the purported confessions, he ran to Sierra Leone and changed his name to Kanu Princeton Samuel. He also secured a Sierra Leonean passport on the 28th July 2023, exactly 15 days after he had allegedly murdered Augusta.

Also speaking on Saturday, a family source said, “We thank the bereaved family of Augusta. We appreciate the sacrifice of Mrs Cordellia Onuwabhagbe who deployed resources to hunt the killer of her daughter. The decision of the Lagos State Police Command to declare the suspect was helpful in convincing the Police in Sierra Leone that Best was wanted in Nigeria for first degree murder. We commend the Sierra Leonean police authorities for the speedy arrest of the suspect.”
