In an assertive declaration, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai dismisses persistent overtures from Bola Ahmed Tinubu, underscoring his steadfast resolve to maintain his independence, regardless of political pressures.

Speaking candidly to DW News in hausa, El-Rufai candidly shares, “Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his invitation for collaboration on more than ten occasions, but I solemnly affirm that my principles are unwavering. I stand above the notion of being beholden as a godson to anyone.”

This revelation comes in the aftermath of the Nigerian Senate’s confirmation of 45 out of the 48 ministerial nominees put forth by President Bola Tinubu. Notably absent from the list of confirmed ministers are Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, and Senator Abubakar Danladi, former Deputy Governor of Taraba State, along with nominee Stella Okotete from Delta State.

The Senate’s decision not to clear these three nominees was attributed to pending security clearance reports, as communicated by Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Office of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, sent letters to the Nigerian Senate, urging the lawmakers not to confirm three of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees.

The three affected nominees indicted in the DSS and NSA letters were a former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, Stella Okotete and Senator Abubakar Danladi from Taraba State.

While political dynamics continue to evolve, El-Rufai’s firm assertion of his autonomy resonates as a testament to the importance of unwavering convictions amidst the realm of political maneuvering.
