Alh Mohammed Badaru Abubakar is the former governor of Jigawa State – Badaru is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Jigawa State from 2015 to 2023. He is the Chairman, Presidential Committee on Fertilizer and also the Chairman, Presidential Committee on Non oil Revenue. And he is the owner of Talamiz group of industries.

Date of birth: Abubakar was born in 1962, his birth palace is Babura city.

Education: Abubakar is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained a B.Sc Accounting degree. While studying at the university, he became involved in community activism, sport and business. Badaru is also an alumnus of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru.

Family

Jigawa state Governor Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar gave away his daughter Amina Badaru in marriage to Lawal Dahiru Mangal, the son of the wealthy northern businessman, Dahiru Mangal .

Wives:

In 2019, The Jigawa State governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, appointed special assistants to each of his three wives.

Of the 51 special assistants that were appointed by the governor, there is also a special assistant for street light as well as for population control. According to a copy of the lists of the appointees obtained by Daily Trust, Sa’adatu Bashir Muhammed is a special assistant to the first wife of the governor, while Mariya Muhammed Muktar and Aisha Garba, to the second and third wives respectively.

While Hassan Usman Bulama and Surajo Musa Gwiwa are special assistants to the governor on street light and population control.

The responsibilities of all the other aides to the governor were clearly stated with the exception of the three special assistants to the governor’s wives.

Career:

In 1991 Abubakar Mohammed established his own business with Talamiz Company. The company after years of work was developed in Talamiz Nigeria Limited.

After this business success, Badaru Abubakar became the Chairman of such companies as Socar Talamiz Limited, AML Bonded Terminal, Oil Mill. He is the holder of traditional titles such as Wali of Jahun in Jigawa State and Sardauna of Ringim Emirate.

Political career:

Abubakar also contested for governorship under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2015 along with PDP contender Mal. Aminu Ibrahim Ringim. The Independent National Electoral Commission on 13 April 2015, declared him the winner of that election.^[2]

On 9 March 2019 Jigawa State gubernatorial election Badaru was re-elected as governor having polled a total of 810,933 votes, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Aminu Ibrahim Ringim scored 288,356 while the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Bashir Adamu Jumbo scored 32,894 votes, thereby making him the winner of the election.

Controversy:

A media aide to the Governor of Jigawa State, Habibu Muhammad, was in February 2023, jailed for accusing a contractor of executing substandard road projects in the state.

Mr Muhammad made the claim on a radio programme promoting the achievement of Governor Muhammad Badaru

Magistrate Mustapha Datti of Court No 14, Gyadi Gyadi in Kano State ruled that Mr Muhammad should be detained in prison after the police filed charges against him following a complaint defamation of character by the contractor, Isah Gerawa.

Mr Muhammad’s lawyer, Abdullahi Yelleman, claimed his client, the aide to Governor Muhammad Badaru on Media Content Development, was sent to prison on 30 January without charges after he was arrested by the police in Kano.

He said he voluntarily responded to a police invitation unknown to his that he would be taken to court from there and summarily jailed without charges.
